I am seriously thinking about buying an Arcade that is currently on Ebay. It looks really nice in the pics, and seems to have no (or very little) damage to the cabinet. The seller said all the joysticks/buttons work perfectly, and that the monitor is really nice (and has very minor burn in).
He said for an extra $50 he would install locks/keys, is that a good deal??? Or should I do it myself. I have no experience with arcade games at all, so I don't want to do it unless it is very easy.
ALso, the Marquee doesn't lite up. Fixing that isn't very hard, is it?
All I want is a perfect working arcade game that you can play with quarters and with free play.

Here is the auction I am talking about:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6173197576&rd=1

Tell me if you see anything that I don't.

PLEASE don't bid on it, since I really really want it. :)

Personally, I wouldn't worry about keys and locks. He's overcharging quite a bit for this when it's no big deal to do. If you want locks on the coin doors, just buy the locks for the $3 or $4 they cost and put them in yourself. It's easy.

As far as the marquee, it's one of 3 things most likely. The bulb, the starter, or the ballast. The bulb and starter can be replaced easily without using any tools. You can get the parts at Home Depot for under $10. The ballast is a bit trickier as you have to rewire it when you replace it, but again, it's not real difficult and pretty cheap to do.

Looks like a nice cab! MK2 is one of my personal favs!

Also, if you want this to work with quarters, make sure you find out if it has coin mechs in it. Specifically ask if they are quarter or token mechs as they are different.

No it's not a good deal. He's blatantly ripping you off. If it's got three locks you're talking about less than $10 in parts and about five minutes worth of labor. I would personally refuse to buy from him based on this alone. He's clearly not reputable.

Ok guys. Thanks ALOT for the help! :)

I will be bidding on it, but I'm definatley not spending the extra $50 for the locks and such. I think he said the coin mechs work, but I will ask again to make sure.

If the coin mechs do work and play with quarters, I can still play for free if I wanted to, right ?

This would be my first (and probabley only) Arcade game, so I really want to make sure everything is right.

THanks alot so far!

Mortal Kombat 2 does indeed have a free play setting. So no worries on that.

I paid 300 dollars for mine, but this one is quite a bit nicer, and mine isn't the original dedicated cab. Mine was a conversion.

Well guys, thanks for the help, but the seller ended the auction.
I emailed him and asked him whats up, and he said that "they needed it on location". I bet he sold it to someone else for more than what I would have given up. Oh well. :(
It's just that I had been waiting for a Mortal Kombat 1,2 (or Street Fighter 2) to be within 4 hours of me, and this was the first one since I had been looking.

Trust me, you're better off not dealing with that guy. First the $50 locks then ending it early. He doesn't strike me as being overly honest.

$50 for locks is a *serious* rip-off. I sell locks, and they're $3.75 SHIPPED for double bitted 7/8" cam locks.

The cab looks very nice, but save yourself $50. As long as you can find a Lowe's, Home Depot, or any hardware store and own a screwdriver you should be able to change the locks just fine.

Yeah, I guess you are all right. It's just that the game looked to be in really nice shape, and arcade cabinets rarely come in withint 4 hours of me.

Does anyone here have a Mortal Kombat 1/2 or a Street Fighter 2 that are looking to sell? They have to live within 2 hours of Albany NY (Albany is 2 hours from my house), and the game must be dedicated and in great shape.
Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Well, I actually tried this. My local Arcade only has 1 older game, and it is the Simpsons (one of my favorites). They wanted $1,400 for it, so I told them no thanks. Obviously! LOL

Not much of interest to tell I'm afraid. :) Here's one though...

Years ago, a local arcade had a nifty little cabaret Klax that was brand spankin' new. I was just about the only person that played it though, so eventually, I asked if they'd sell it. The attendant / manager (?) called the home office then and there, and I bought it on the spot. :D

Still play it pretty much every day. "There's always time for Klax." ;)
