I'm sure these questions will be answered at E3 (or the MTV Special) but having downloaded and watched the Madden Next Gen video...

I'm not seeing "the leap", it just looks like a videogame intro. Granted this was a quicktime movie, maybe it looks better in person or in high def...

So I'm curious to see what the Xbox360 will have to offer over say the current Xbox...

Thoughts?

Its also EA... The Biggest publisher of Multiplatform games. All of their ports are based on the code that can run on the weakest hardware. Madden on Xbox 360 is probably just a few extra numbers in the Xbox versions... a bit more detail... a few more pollys...

A Game called Huxley is in developement for Xbox 360 as well (I'm too lazy to get the links off Team Xbox... but they have some info and screens) It also isn't the greatest looking game in the world, but thats completely understandable... you can't play a 5,000 player MMOFPS game with 100% perfection can you? The Game is still leaps beyond Madden 360.

I think this next generation will probably be the biggest leap in console technology since the world saw 16bit. When we went from Lime-Green Grass to 45 shades of green and yellow grass. Now from a few spots of Two Dimensional blades of grass on a painted polygonal surface... to every single blade of grass being made up of textured polygons... and some polygonal specs of dirt underneath.

My guess...

After the stadium / intros, that was in-game footage.

I don't know if any of the next generation of consoles will truly be enough for people to upgrade. Every other generation has followed a major advancement in graphics that allows people to play different types of games. The change between the Playstation and Playstation 2 generations was like the change between the NES and SNES generation. The quality of 3D games greatly improved because the graphics could now keep up.

I think that both the PS3 and Xbox 2 are going to be hard sells because of this. I'm sure that Microsoft and Sony have already got ways to figure out how to best handle their sales, but I don't know what that is. If history proves anything, the Jaguar (which was the most powerful 2D machine ever made, albeit with very, very limited RAM) was laughed at while the Playstation, which really had the first 3D graphics decent enough to power games, ruled.

In many ways, I see the next generation from Microsoft and Sony as a step like the Jaguar was... but Microsoft and Sony are much bigger than Atari was and have a lot more want / need to succeed with the next round, especially Microsoft. I guess we will just have to wait until the end of the month to see what is going on with those two.

If anything, this is the reason that I am at least optimistic about Nintendo's next console. If it actually has some sort of gameplay element that truly revolutionizes gameplay like the jump to 3D did for the Playstation, then it could be a real surprise.
