So I'm looking for Megaman Battle Network 4 on eBay. I browse through some listings and see one going out soon at 99 cents. I check it out, and it's one of those overseas sellers. I'd bought things from Hong Kong, China, etc. before, so that wasn't a big deal. Shipping was $8.00, and $8.99 was much cheaper than anything else I'd seen, so I tossed a bid up.

A couple weeks later (still within his shipping timeframe, so all was well) I got it, everything was as he said it would be, folded up box, "basic" (not real) manual, and the game. I fired it up, played a bit, and it worked. So everything was fine...

Until one night, I turn it on and my save is erased. I wasn't very far, so it wasn't a big deal. I quickly got back to where I was and all was well.. until today.

This morning, I get an email from eBay saying that the auction has been removed (good job doing that 3 weeks after it ended -_-) for infringing copyrights, and the seller was tossed off eBay for good. A closer look at the cart itself revealed that it was made by "NIntondo." I play a little bit today, considerably farther than I was before, and WHILE I WAS PLAYING, the save was erased. It told me it had an error trying to save, and that was the end of that.

Now, I know it was only $8.99, but it's the principle of the matter. I'll try to go through Paypal to get it back and then promptly destroy the cart, but still. It's very frustrating to have the save keep erasing on you and all that. I'm glad he was thrown off eBay, too, his ID was johu_suge. He had halfway decent feedback, too, so I didn't suspect much. Bleh. End rant.

As a general rule (And not discrminating against anyone here) but I tend to avoid anything that looks like it comes from Hong Kong.

I know there are a handful of legit sellers who originate from there, but I think it's fair to say that 97.5% of the games that come from there (Especially Nintendo ones) are fakes.

Many other people will probably also agree with me here too.

GameBoy games are the worst. eBay is full of these dodgy Hong Kong fakes, and anyone not in the know can easially be stung big time!

Again, apologies to any legit sellers from Hong Kong, and to anyone who has some good stories about good deals, but in my experience (And many others) it's better to just steer well clear of sellers from Hong Kong.

I agree with that, usually. But I've had many successful transactions with overseas sellers. Oh well. Now I have to buy another copy of the game, and if my save gets erased on THAT one, I'll be pissed. >_>

The UK version of pocket Reversi is very hard to find. I would like to get it, but it hardly ever comes up on Ebay.

EXCEPT...

This guy trys this a lot. The LOOSE Uk version is common as dirt, and the UK box is a clamshell affair (like the plastic Genesis boxes) than would be easy to swap out with a laser-jetted copy on the original cover.

The instuctions wouldn't be hard to duplicate, either.

I'm not biting. I may never bite now that I suspect pirates floating around.

Did the folded up box and "not real" manual not clue you in?

I gotta agree with Gemini. Almost all games from Hong Kong are fake. I am sure there are some good sellers from there, but I have never seen one. Next time just pay the extra $5 and buy it from the U.S. ;)

I bought Mario Pinball from HK and I was a little worried about it - I got it in less than two weeks - but at first it kept freezing in my SP. BUt now it works perfect??! I try to stay away from those listings too, or at least read through A LOT of feedback before I purchase.
