cartridge question

I have 2 diffrent types of the standard grey nintendo cartridges. One has 2 little holes on top where the bottom half clasps to the top. the other version i have does not have any clasps it is just flat. I want to know what these 2 types r called.

I think its because the one version with the ridges has a security lockout chip? someone correct me if im wrong...

The carts with the clasps are called Rev-A carts, or 3-screw...the only difference is the shape of the plastic is slightly changed and it uses three screws (and security screw) instead of five with normal screws.

Some games come in only one version, some come in both, and some are significantly scarcer in one version than the other (Athletic World is apparently harder to find as a 5-screw cart).

Nothing to do with the lockout chip -- it's in all carts. ;)

The only major internal difference lies in the earliest of the earliest shipped NES games, which include a Famicom-to-NES converter (likely because Nintendo knew it wasn't going to be able to have the American boards ready for 1985's regional launch).

Maybe that's what I am thinking of, the converter. I knew some of the earlier carts had some different insides to them,.....

Or in the case of Zelda, the earlier version cart doesn't contain the "press reset to power off" message.
