View Full Version : Video Game Liquidators: Anyone deal with them?

The reason I post this is I think this company is doing some shady things at Amazon with their auctions.

I recently won Sewer Shark for 3DO off of one of Video Game Liquidator's (VGL) auctions. I receive an e-mail and a refund stating that they "don't have the game in stock". How can you not have an item when you AUCTION it off?! This wouldn't be so bad, but I did another search for Sewer Shark on Amazon and sure enough, VGL had another auction for it. How can they auction off something they don't have?

Has anyone had any deals with them and with Amazon auctions? Is this a common thing and it's just a loophole Amazon just happens to have? Any thoughts/comments/suggestions on this?

Oh yeah, I did contact Amazon to see what their viewpoint is on this.

I've dealt with VGLQ many many many times, and never had a problem. They've gotten really busy on eBay lately though, maybe their inventory system isn't synced up right. All of my dealings with them have been through their website and I found their prices to be very fair and their service very professional.

Hope you get things worked out.

no big issues with them, I bought a large number of Atari Lynx and Jaguar products from them the last few years. They do seem to be a small operation handling a large amount of transactions but they probably will come through in the end.

I have also bought from them in the past with no problems though I should point out I really haven't bought anything from them in the last year or two.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if they automatically post new auctions after old ones are done. Maybe something is broken in a script or something and they don't know it? I'm a pretty forgiving guy but seeing this instance happen doesn't give very good impressions to people if it was a mistake.

I'll keep everyone posted when I hear stuff.

Did anyone ever deal with united_game_source? They were some outfit based in Florida and I never had any problems with them but seemingly the guy had such a volume of auctions on Ebay that he just about self-combusted and pissed off a lot of people resulting in him stopping trading on ebay.....anyone remember them?

I think they used to sell a lot of Game.com stuff

I haven't dealt with United Game Source in about a year, but before then I dealt with them LOTS. In fact, they were "neighbors" at Classic Gaming Expo (for 2 consecutive years their booth was adjacent to Digital Press). Great prices and really cool stuff - at least back then. Last year they didn't appear at CGE, and I haven't seen many new items on their site so haven't "shopped" with them in awhile.

This probably doesn't help.

The guy I dealt with there was always extremely friendly and helpful with myself, but he did give off the vibes that he was working 16 hour days just to clear the Ebay backlog and that was BEFORE his shop responsibilities.

I realised it was going downhill when all of a sudden about 30 negatives appeared on his, until then, almost impeccable account. I would really just like to know if they are still going and all is well :) as I said to him that I would visit his shop when I came to Florida again.

I have dealt with both, and not had any problems with either of the two.

I picked up a lynx + 18 game auction from VGLQ about 2 years ago and got a system with no sound. I sent it back and they sent out another one along with a game to cover my expense. This one turned out to be broken as well(would read cartridges), however in the end they did make it right and sent me a third working unit. Like the others I haven't ordered from them recently, but when I did they always seemed to get things right in the end.

I've dealt with VGLQ's eBay auctions a few times before. The only problem I had was when I had paid for an auction yet they sent me a payment reminder a few days later. I just sent them a friendly email with the Paypal transaction ID and the situation was taken care of.

I never liked VGLQ cause of the way they do shipping. No discounts for multiple items sucks. They also have fairly high prices for fairly common items. Bought from them once...now I avoid everything that has to do with them. They may have changed their policies since then though. They also sell a lot of games disc only and put it in smaller print. Bleah.

VGLQ USED to be much better than they are currently. Their prices are no longer "bargains", or indicative of liquidation/deep discounts. Their navigation and browsing system fucking blows (again, compared to what it USED to be), and their stock is picked over. I refer, of course, to their site and not their ebay auctions. The fact remains that 2 years ago, I ordered LOTS of stuff from them at very fair prices, but now they have overpriced junk. I still can't get over their browsing system--pull down menus! You have to pull down each and every game to get a price and availability, etc. Why they did this (inventory control? It doesn't sound that way!) is beyond me, as they used to have a simple mass price sheet per system, just like everyone else in the universe (besides Buy Rite.....hmmm....)

Anyway, I never got around to buying one of their Lynx packages (I could use a new model, plus more games), because I noticed the "or other titles" fine print in the games listing. I can easily imagine getting a Lynx with 1 copy of Klax, 1 copy of Batman Returns, and 18 copies of Cyberball.

What did I buy? Well, I pretty much took one of each in their Jag dept. (back when the games were VERY cheap...$5-$10 each, or less), some 32X games (see above), a Jag system for my cousin (which he promptly fried with an NES adaptor), and some Sega CD games. I like to think that I got everything that was worth getting, back when the prices were excellent. I haven't checked, but I'll bet you that they're selling dogshit like Big Hurt Baseball for $15-$20 now. I'll just bet you...

Amazon is a little different than eBay. They allow big volume sellers to "bulk load" listings. That's probably why you got the out of stock thing. Somone like VGL can load up an inventory listing to Amazon without really checking it to make sure the information is up to date. Happens quite a bit in the Marketplace part of the site (which is non-auction, but I'm pretty sure the auction works the same.)

I got the skinny on VGLQ as they have responded to my e-mail. The company was bought out by someone else about 2 months ago named Brad. He's been trying to get the listed inventory up to par with what actual inventory is, as the previous owner was "extremely lax" (as Brad put it). That's a good explanation. Just would have been nice to see a message on their web pages stating this bit of info in case this happens to other people while the inventory transition is going on.

VGLQ has way overpriced shipping. $7.95 minimum, for one game CD or Lynx cart that weighs nothing and costs about $1.50 to mail.

P.S. Wavelflack has the best. site. EVER.

Heh heh..thanks Zaxxon. I forgot that it was even in my profile, as I disabled the original "www.wavelflack.com" url. If you want to skip the revolting Archie stuff and go straight to revolting video game cartoons, go to http://www.geocities.com/wavelflackdust/The_Wavelflack_Archive_page5.html

I had bought some 3do games from VGL before. Although they were listed as new, 2 of the games came in used with stickers on the boxes and the cd's had been resurfaced. I never got a reply to my emails when i tried to contact them about it. There shipping is very expensive. From what i have heard one of the owners had left United Game Source and he owned a bunch of the inventory. there is a ebay'r by the name of calistoo (i think that's how it's spelled) that has the same return address as UGS old store.
