Does anyone know the exact size of a Nintendo (Donkey Kong) marquee?

No one's here at work today and I've got the plotter all to myself ...

Does 23.4 by 11.7 sound roughly right? I just downloaded a marquee from Classicgaming.cc ... I think I'll use it as a rough size template and go from there.

EDIT: N/M, I was measuring the entire picture instead of just the banner. After I cropped it, it's almost exactly the same size you posted. :embarrassed:

Nope - that 11.7 part would make it MUCH too tall. Offhand, I can't think of any marquee that would have that aspect ratio.

D'oh! Got in before your edit - you should be good to go then. I just measured the marquee, so the numbers I posted should be dead on.

You fixing up a DK for the ol' gameroom? :)

I was just about to ask if you had recently obtained a DK.

Nah ... my MAME Cabinet has had a hard life. When my sister and I were little kids my dad bought this cabinet for my sister. It started life as Donkey Kong Junior (bright orange Nintendo VS cabinet) but was converted to JAMMA and had Bloxeed (a Tetris clone) in it. Over the years the monitor went bad (in hindsight, it probably just needed a cap kit) and the PCB died (suicide battery).

Years later, I get into arcade collecting, so my dad pawns the old, dead cabinet down to me. Soon I discover MAME Cabinets, and so I have this old, dead cabinet which I decide will make a great donor. This was really before I had found the love of cabinet restoration. Basically, I gutted the cabinet like a fish. I gave the monitor away on RGVAC to a local guy who came and picked it up. I put the PCB in the garage where it now sits (dead). I think the power supply is somewhere around here. I kept the JAMMA harness as well. With the cabinet empty, I stuck a PC inside and used a 21" monitor I picked up from an auction.

I left the CP the way it was which means it is set up like a Nintendo VS cab except it has 3 buttons per side (enough for what I play 99% of the time). Basically I committed the mortal sin which was hooking it up and trying games on it before it was finished ... meaning I've never really finished it. I pulled the Bloxeed marquee out the other day but haven't put another one in, so while I was sitting here today I decided I should print a new one out. It doesn't really have a theme per se, but since I live right by Cactus Jack's I've always thought about calling it Cactus Flack's, so I just whipped up a marquee with a desert, a cactus, and the logo. I'm going to print it out here shortly and take it home and make sure it fits. I'm also going to install that front end I wrote on the cab and see how that works out as well.

Hey AA, your measurements were right on!

I did that in about 5 mins in Photoshop, nothing to write home about but at least it finishes off the cab. One thing I didn't plan on was that my cab has tinted plexi, so it made the marquee appear a lot darker (it looks darker than it does in this pic). That's one of many things that need to be fixed on it.

Thanks again for the help!

Looks great! Nice jorb!

Hey, is that the original molding, or did you replace it? Either way, it looks nice. :)

It's original. I think today while everyone's gone I'm going to print out some side art and use some spray on glue to attach it to the sides. This cabinet will never be show quality, I'm just kind of playing around with it.
