Hey everyone,

I just recently picked up at a GameStop a copy of Zelda: Wind Waker that was a little odd. It had a cover that was a combo of Wind Waker and the Master Quest bonus disc so I went to ask them about it, and they said it had both games. I picked it up because I've been thinking about Wind Waker for a while, and I have seen the Master Quest disc selling for $30.00 alone.

I have spent the last few days watching eBay for one and searching through the threads here to try to figure out where this came from, and I didn't turn up anything other than a mention or two that it could be rare.

Does anyone else have this? Where did it come from? What were the instruction manuals like? (I didn't get any) Was there anything special about the discs? (I'm not sure I got the "original" discs)

Thanks in advance!

Wow that sounds pretty nice. Excellent find by far! Can you take some pics of it? I'd like to see that

I didn't know they had combined them. To think I subscribed to nintendo power just so I could get the xtra disc.

They were combined as a pack-in with the GameCube for a brief time. A friend of mine got his that way when he bought his system new.

I'll second Mr. Smashy. When I worked at Wal-Mart we got some of those bundles in during Xmas 2003. I don't think they're extremely rare or anything, but they are unusual. Most likely, Nintendo just slapped the Master Quest manual in with the WW manual, altered the coverslip art a bit, put everything in a two disc case and called it a day.

EDIT: Here's one on eBay, for those curious. Linky (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8187696726&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

And to think that I spent a good hour looking for that on eBay this morning before work! Thanks a bunch for the link :)

That is exactly what it looks like. Does anyone happen to have one they bought new? I'm not sure if any part of mine comes from the same one -- they gave me the Wind Waker disc and a Master Quest disc from two different cases and one of the employees said to the other "someone must have accidentally put those in the wrong case" because originally they were just going to give me the Master Quest (that's the the price tag said, and I wouldn't have paid $30.00 for that alone...)

Thanks for the help so far!

No, I've seen that one all over town and I kept thinking it sounded neat, but for the price I would rather just borrow a copy of Zelda for the N64 from the GOAT Store if I wanted to play it. I had seen Wind Waker for as little as $10.00 in the past, but I kept passing it up even though I was interested -- I've never really been one for the Zelda series (crazy, I know).

I got a copy of the four-in-one disc in a eBay purchase as a surprise recently, and when I saw this I figured I'd pick it up and give Wind Waker a try for sure. After the GameStop discount, plus the buy-two, get-one free deal that got me a free $18.00 game, I basically got the game for $20.00. I figure if nothing else, I could probably trade it for that price.

I've been really surprised by its seeming rarity... even moreso now that a lot of people on here don't seem to know about it!

I've actually got this too , got it from a pawn shop for like 15 bucks. ( kinda scratched though )

I got another cool one that is similiar,

It's got Zelda I , Zelda II , OOC , Majora's Mask , and a playable demo of the windwaker.

Yeah, that's the one they were packaging with new Cubes for a while around last year. If you ask me, that's the one to have. Heh.

How rare is that one, anyway? I've got it, but damned if I see it turn up very often.

Congrats on the find! I saw a picture of this bundle posted on another message board a while back, and I was wondering about it too. I have yet to see this bundle in the wild.

Dan,

According to the list that we've established in this thread:

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52137&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

I've been told by several people that that particular pairing of games was a Canadian release. I'd not heard anything about it being bundled in with a Gamecube system before.

Can anyone actually provide some solid info one way or another on this? I believed it was Canadian because nobody I know at any of the game stores around here could vouch for having ever seen it - and in my hunt for Gamecube Variants, I've never seen it either, though I've seen all the other current Wind Waker variants. Also, Mike Etler didn't correct it - though he corrected one or two other Wind Waker variants I had questions about. I'm sure he knows more than I about it.

Also, any additions to that topic are great - I'm working up a page with scans of the variants - but it's a slow process as I've been cramming in the freelance work to pay bills and whatnot lately.

I got that one in a trade recently. I don't know if it is just Milwaukee, which seems to have a very hearty supply of rarer current-gen games, but at every EB in town there are three copies on the shelves, and at every GameStop there is at least one. It is priced $50.00 at EB and $40.00 at GameStop now. It is a nice combo, but I don't think it is rare at all -- just highly sought after because it is so nice.

I've been told by several people that that particular pairing of games was a Canadian release. I'd not heard anything about it being bundled in with a Gamecube system before.

I'm almost positive it is American. I found it in Milwaukee in the wild, and while it is possible Canadian games could've made it down here, it isn't that likely. I've never seen a NES Canadian game in the wild here before, and I actually do look sometimes...

Anyway, according to the back of the box (sorry, my camera isn't working), I get these hints:

Address on back: Nintendo of America Inc.

Made in USA

For sale, rental and use only in USA, Canada, Mexico and Latin America

"NOT FOR RESALE"

Comparing it to my Mario Kart: Double Dash pack-in, Zelda doesn't have the ESRB "E" rating on the back (just a smaller "Everyone" rating), and that seems to be it. Every indication that I can see makes it seem like it is either a bundled pack-in or some sort of special give away.

Both of the discs have "USA" on them, although I don't trust that they are the discs that came with it, as they pulled them from two completely different spots.

Also, any additions to that topic are great - I'm working up a page with scans of the variants - but it's a slow process as I've been cramming in the freelance work to pay bills and whatnot lately.

I'm actually usually a variant whore (for noticing, but not usually collecting), and this was the first time I had ever seen this or heard of it. I picked it up more to play, but then upon looking for it realized I might actually have something special, and have been wondering where the hell it came from ever since.

As a side note, this pairing of Wind Waker and the first Zelda bonus disc in the same case was also available in the Zelda Gamecube bundle here in the UK for a fair while. I know this because I had one in my hands.

My Zelda: Wind Waker is a "Limited Edition" apparently. Incudes OOT and MM on a bonus disc inside. Nice packaging, nicely done. And I got it on the day of release. And I got it cheapish.

Yea, I used to work at an ebgames and those came through a lot.. They didnt sell well, because used, they were still retail price (I forgot how much.. something like $40). Want a copy, check ebgames.com or go to your local store.. they will drop in sometime.

Well, I found a Canadian Super Metroid (SNS-RI-CAN) here in California, so I personally wouldn't be surprised to see Canadian Cube releases like this making their way across the border. Seeing that several people who claim to have or seen it have their locations indicated as Canada, I'd assume that at the very least it was PRIMARILY a Canadian release.

Yup, that's pretty much it. Nintendo probably had a bunch of the excess preorder bonus discs (the OOT + OOT Master Quest package Videogamerdaryll mentioned) that didn't go out before the game hit stores, so instead of toss them out they reworked them into a small release all in one bundle until they were gone. Then it was time to move over to the Zelda I + II + OOT + OOT Master Quest pack-in disc.

Hunh. So this was released as a system bundle? The "NOT FOR RESALE" on the back seems to indicate it was. Does anyone else have one? If so, I'm curious if your disks also say USA on them like mine do... especially if it is original.

"Zelda I + II + OOT + OOT Master Quest pack-in disc."

No, the Zelda Collectors Edition pack in had LOZ, AOL, OoT, and Majora's Mask. Master Quest OoT is only available on the WW preorder disc.

Bundled with a console, or just bundled together?

The thing that gets me is the Not For Resale on the back. It seems to make me believe it was a console bundle, but I'm extremely surprised no one has heard of it or has it.

For the people with the stand alone Ocarina / Ocarina Master's copies, do you have any sort of instruction manual for those games? My hunch is that this just included a copy of both instruction manuals, like what companies have been doing for the multiple disc packs lately.

The PAL version is pretty common - I haven't been looking at any GameCube games in ages, but when I was it was easier to find the combo version than the 'standard' WW.

In the UK that limited editon WW with the Master Quest disc was originally supposed to be for pre orders only. However I got mine about a month after release so that plan was obviously scrapped and explains why the PAL ones are very common.
