After my post yesterday about What type of collector are you? had so many responses of "Random," it got me to thinking yet again, but this time about what people are currently collecting. We all have such diverse collections and I'm guessing even if we are focusing on a few things today, it could change tomorrow. So what is currently in your "wanted" lists?

Whatever I see, want, and have money for. If I saw an affordable copy of Badlands for the Palcom PX-7, I'd buy that.

Recent series I've been buying: Ninja Warriors, Turrican, Contra, Splatterhouse (all light-hearted games LOL ). Genres: lots of sidescrolling action titles.

Recent systems I've been especially buying for: SNES, Mega CD, PC-Engine CD-ROM, some Mega Drive, Game Gear.

N-Gage for me. Since the games don't come out for it that often I've just been keeping pace with it. I've actually tried to slow down my collecting habbits in order to play the already many great games I have that I've barely played.

I'm mainly trying to track down older stuff. NES titles like Panic Restaurant and foreign treasures like Ufouria and Hammerin' Harry. I'm always on the lookout for Saturn goodies like Guardian Heroes, Dungeons & Dragons Collection, and Dragon Force, too.

I've decided to make this a low to moderate year for collecting and don't want to buy more than about 20 games total. So far I'm keeping pace for that. With that said, I think I need just a few cartridges (probably no more than 5 or so) to bring my SNES collection up to an even 200 at which point I'd probably call that collection finished. I was going to do that also with Playstation 1 but I've reached 200 and have continued to buy the occasional game there. Perhaps I figure that there are still good PS1 games out there that interest me while I pretty much already have all the good SNES games. I also have all 3 current systems but seem to mainly buy for the XBox with the occasional GameCube purchase.

With so many systems that I own it's hard to narrow it down but the one game that I am really on the lookout for is the original TOEJAM & EARL game complete for Genesis.

Right now i am on a N64, PSX and Dreamcast kick. Since getting the job at EB i figured i should try and grab these while i can, because who knows how long we are still going to carry them.

I don't pass up any game I don't have regardless of system if it's less than two dollars.

I mostly look for SNES, Genesis and N64. I used to want complete games, but now that I have a personal inventory of 900+ boxes I'm buying loose like crazy.

My NGPC if I happen to stumble into the few remaining games that I need complete (8) and my PS collection. I'm over 700 titles and still have a good 500 to go but its slow work that has taken years in the first place. A few more wont hurt anything.

And when I get bored and was spending moola like mo tomorrow I also was really going after PS2 and kinda going after Xbox and Cube. My PS2 run is well over 300 games right now and the others are both over 100 titles respectively.

I'll buy anything I don't have if it's cheap enough.

I'm still chipping away at the NES games though. I've only got about 50 more to go and I'll have a complete collection of US released NES games. :)

After finishing my Euro SMS collection, I'm currently pausing for breath a little before launching properly into the 300 or so missing Mega Drive titles.
Also picking up Mark III and SG1000 games on the side, aswell as anything that catches my eye in the wild.

Wow. I'm really surprised by the amount of people going for handheld stuff right now. The N-Gage is probably the most surprising to me! I was thinking about that too, because something with a small library that is pretty rare is cool to own :)

Also, thanks to the mods that locked my other identical topic. The boards went down right as I tried posting this, and I had no idea if anything went over or not... It just loaded for about 10 minutes...

I collect across all Nintendo systems, NoA published games first, followed by any 3rd party games that I actually want. I've found that trying to "collect-them-all" isn't for me as I wasn't having much fun.

I am not too much of a collector anymore, selling off most of my rares, including Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, Bubble Bobble Part 2, and a factory sealed copy of Super Turrican 2. I also sold my copy of Suikoden II. Collecting just lost its appeal to me. Now I am only buying games I want to play or will enjoy from time to time. Thing is, I can't get it loose. For every game that I own, I must have AT LEAST the box. Then I would do whatever I could to get a manual. This is my idea of collecting. But hey, I've gotten a lot of money from selling off my rare games, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining, right?

PC Engine. Saturn. Genny/Megadrive. DC.

Trying to decide where to cap those collections, possibly at around 80 or so each (which wouldn't take all that long from where I am now). There aren't a whole lot of games past that number that I think I would be all that enthusiastic about buying.

After that I will probably go to work on the Nintendo stuff (especially NES+SNES +a few GC games) and Atari (VCS/Jag) stuff some more.

A few more (relatively less expensive) NeoGeo home carts, and a few NGCD shooters that are way too expensive on home cart.

There are several Sega CD games I'm looking for, then some SMS stuff.

There are a few more PCFX games that I may buy at some point if I can afford them.

NGPC stuff also at some point.

I'm not one to buy games I don't think I'll ever really want to play......

Collecting just lost its appeal to me. Now I am only buying games I want to play or will enjoy from time to time.

Yeah, I actually could never understand why people would have games they don't want to play. They are just games after all.

I have a number of rares but I actually like those games.....

US NGPC?

Ayup. I've got a place that I know where I can get 4 of the needed titles letting me cut the list in half, I just dont have the deep desire to dump that kind of money on the stuff at the moment. Everything ive got for the system currently is complete except Metal Slug2. That one will get bought again eventually when i find a complete one. Toss in one or two accessories that I still want to get for the sytem (NGPC to DC link and an AC adaptor) and it's done in my book.

Right now my saturn is getting the most play out of all my systems. These days, its what I am getting the games for. Problem is, dispite this, I can only find import saturn games. I'm not complaining as all the games I have got so far look to be very good and have played well, but for some reason I cant help but wish I had them in my own native tongue. I am somewhat interested in my NES and SNES, but at this time, my saturn comes first. By all that is holy, I will have my 50 saturn games this year. Heck, almost halfway there now!

I decided to give up on domestic Saturn games some time ago. I can read Japanese to a decent extent though......

I really hate the long cases, which is another reason.

Other than RPG's I wouldn't bother with anything domestic regardless if I was in your position. I just buy the JP RPG's as they are cheaper and there are a lot more of them (and much better ones in some cases). I personally can't stand what WDesigns does to games they bring over here also.....

Of course most folks would have a lot more difficulty playing them.

I am currently woking on Genesis, 32X and Sega CD. I started out just collecting Genesis, but found out I could lots of games for all 3 systems mixed together as they are all related. Currently I have 303 Genesis, 32 32X (Carts & CDs) and 48 Sega CD games. I try to get the rare games first, hopefully in lots with commons, making it easier to complete the collection. I am only 3 games away from a complete 32X collection, and I already have Spider-Man Web of Fire.

Next on my list will be to wrap up my Dreamcast and Master System collections, and to start on Saturn.

I'd like to start a complete SNES collection, but I fear that will be a costly adventure as it seams its harder to find complete games for that system, and the RPGs seem to go for insane amounts of money compared to say the Genesis.

I maily collect for Sega systems only. I love collecting for everything, but all my other systems aren't my main focus. Recently, I had been collecting for the Sega Master System, and 32x. I have moved on from those though and am mainly concentrating on Sega Genesis.

Currently I have 408 Genesis games, all complete in box. The only loose cart I have is Action 52. I just receieved about 250 genesis boxes, so tomorrow I'm hitting up the gamecrazy sale to see if I can knock out a lot of titles. I got a few hundred genesis manuals as well so it's made collecting for the system rather easy, as I only have to look for the cartridges.

I had been collecting for the Master System for a while, but stopped due to the fact that the only game I need is a US version of Sonic The Hedgehog. I also came to a halt with 32x because the only game I need for that is World Series Baseball. I actually need Corpse Killer too but....it's Corpse Killer, not gonna be a problem or anything ;D.

As for the saturn, I've been lucky to find quite a few or the rarer titles for dirt cheap. I'm currently around 80 games strong for that system, and have been occasionaly picking up a title or two. Same goes for the Sega CD, and I've got about 70 titles for that system, which is nearly halfway. As for Dreamcast, it's my least favorite sega related hardware, but I've managed about 70 games for it...someday I will complete the system.

So, the sega collecting goes well so far. I'm pretty sure I'll have a near complete genesis collection by the year's end.

<3 Sega!

currently it's SNES for me, and i can't really see that change too much soon, it has been SNES again and again in the past with some other things in between. I always look for the last missing 32X games (6) and if i see one of the rare or expensive missing dreamcast games (28) i will also grab it :)

the above is true for mostly ebay, the wild is different here, i'm happy if i find anything in the wild other than lose generic snes and nes games so i pick up 95% of the stuff i see other than those

Sorry to be so vague Dan, but honestly, I'd have to say I collect ANYTHING that interests me for any of the 38 systems I own. Realistically I mainly collect for Nintendo systems first, Sega second, X-box third, then all others.
And I'll always pick up stuff that is exclusive to a console if it interests me.

I have about 260 games for several systems but I'm sort of a random collector. I don't buy per system but I'm always look for games that interest me. At the moment I'm into hack'n'slay RPGs and I'm looking around for good games in that category. Thanks to my hack'n'slay thread I got some new games I want (but some might not be released in Europe yet) and there is also a thread about those games for the GBA. Maybe that will inspire me some more.

I realized that the part about what I am currently collecting for somehow got cut from this thread! Whoops! Anyway...

I had been actively collecting Playstation longboxes and classic updates, but after getting pretty much every Playstation longbox in town that was a good price and finally finding a minty copy of Tempest X3, I've pretty much detoured away from that now.

Lately, I've been on a PAL Dreamcast kick, although it might be coming to an end now with me sitting on just over 110 of about 210 games. I have realized that I don't want to pay more than a few bucks to get copies of games that I already own, just with different packaging.

The only thing that I'm actively looking for is my US Dreamcast variants which is one All Stars disc, two Hot! New! titles and I think one other. I'm actively looking, but I'm ending up turning to eBay on these...

The only system that I want to be able to point to on a shelf and say "there's my collection" is the N64.

Since joining DP, I've become educated enough to put together a teeny library of Genny and NES must-haves. I have my Cube and Xbox as my "everyday-play-systems-that-aren't-above-being-used-as-trade-in-fodder". I also have the typical small PSX library of commons and Working Designs boxsets. I also have a very nice medium-sized DC library of personal faves.

Currently, I'm trying to ratchet up my NES collection (about 60 to go and I'll have everything I want, and many are dirt common games), but I've been getting sidetracked by PlayStation (mainly One, but some Two) games and FDS cards.

I set system targets (always have to have rules - possibly the software engineer in me). At the minute, I am trying to get Sega Megadrive to 200 (4 to go). Once that is done I will get PlayStation to 200 (37 to go). Probably following that I will get NES to 100 (34 to go). Once I have done all those, it will probably be Christmas.

Working hard at completing the US Dreamcast collection. Need about 25 or so - none of them are expensive, just somewhat hard to find. I've done it before and then eBayed the whole collection, so I know it's possible. Just give me another month or two and I'll have a collection to keep. :)

Past that - any of the current consoles (PS1 too).

Just hit the 550 game mark.

I collect for the Xbox mainly. As I stated in the previous thread, I'm acquiring a more or less complete collection for one system of each generation and pick up only the more ineteresting titles unique to the other systems.

It was actually you, Dan, who got me started on this kick by selling me a copy of The Guy Game for the Xbox. Having to buy that game was the best argument I had against going for a complete collection, and once I actually acquired it, my resistance pretty much dissolved.

Technically, I'm collecting for:

Intellivision
SMS
Jaguar
Dreamcast
Gameboy Advance
Gamecube, and
Xbox

However, I don't have the finances to effectively build up all of these collections, so I'm pretty much into the Xbox and Gamecube exclusives at the moment. That's mainly because they are the two systems hooked up to my television. Eventually, I'd like to have all the mainstream systems for each generation, but I think emulation will probably have to be the route I go for some of them.

My main focus is completing SMS and Sega CD. I only need 6 manuals to complete SMS and about 20 games to complete Sega CD. I have pretty much hit a brick wall with those though so I have been picking up Saturn and Genesis stuff lately, although I am no where near completing those collections. I guess you could say I collect mostly Sega.

i only seriously collect for the nes and the north american sms. i'm getting close to completed the nes but a lot of the games that i need now are $10-20+ so i've slowed down considerably. i'm a little over half way done with the sms but that's not going to be completed anytime soon.

the "other" consoles i collect just because i find them interesting... like vic 20, ti 99/4a, trs, vintage comp software, msx, x68k, tg16/pce. besides the first three, i only have a few games from the others. i wouldn't mind to eventually finish the vic 20 but a lot of the games i need are fairly expensive.
