Just for reference, you have checked every game on the US list to check if they had a PAL counterpart right?

anagrama

It was compiled from a mixture of (pretty sketchy) older online lists, early 90's Sega mags, a year or so of on/off eBay watching and a few other sources. I've seen some kind of solid proof for everything I've confirmed.

There's little point checking for a Euro equivalent of every US release since several publishers ignored Europe altogether.

Is this information already available in the online rarity guide because i can't seem to find any info on european games in there yet??

That's what he's working on now, and what prompted his question. It will be in the database soon after any holes are filled.

Yeah, I sent the file back to Joe last night - should be up shortly :)
There's no rarity info yet, just a basic gamelist - haven't got the time to properly research it for now.

I'm almost sure Dracula was released in Europe. But won't take poison for it, as it's 10 years ago I sold my GG.

It's on the list as 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' ;)
Oddly, that was one of the last ones I confirmed - spotted one on eBay Germany a few days ago.

Have you tried this site for any missing info?

http://www.game-gear.info/softpal.htm

You may have already been there, but I havent seen the Sonic 2in1 game before and it has a picture.

that's one of Mr. Saturn's sites if i'm not mistaken (he has one for every Sega system, except DC) and they are usually quite reliable, he sometimes is missing games, but i haven't seen games listed that weren't released... if you need confirmation of something on his list i could ask him about it, he's active on a german board i visit

Yeah, that would be great if you could - it does look like a pretty solid list, but I'm wary of 'confirming' anything without at least seeing a picture. I'll PM you later on once I've had a chance to double-check his list for any I've not confirmed...

Just a quick question, how do you distinguish PAL and US Game Gear games when they are cart only pics?

anagrama

Just a quick question, how do you distinguish PAL and US Game Gear games when they are cart only pics?

It's not always possible from just the cart - some US games have the purple stripe down the side, some PAL carts have -50 at the end of the 670-xxxx product code and the type-face used for 'Game Gear' on the cart can sometimes give it away aswell.
For any where it's not immediately possible to tell, I haven't confirmed them until I've seen a box. (For example, I'm fairly sure that The Majors: Pro Baseball had a European release, but still haven't seen a box and the cart is ambiguous. Unconfirmed until then!)

hydr0x
04-29-2005, 06:06 PM
yeah the Pro Baseball cart really doesn't tell you much, maybe you can ask the seller of this one

For the part # are you going to put the number on the side of the box, like your Mega Drive rarity list, or is it going to be cart part #?

It seems that not many games were release PAL, only 189 so far! O_O

anagrama
04-29-2005, 07:23 PM
The box number. That's what the US list uses and it keeps things consistent with all the other Sega lists.

As I said, there's a few of the unconfirmed ones that I'm pretty sure exist, but want to be entirely sure before adding them (there's also some that I don't think exist, but I've mentioned them on the off-chance).
Possibly one or two others that have entirely slipped through the net so far aswell - I'd expect the final count to be around or just over 200.

Oh also found FIFA Soccer '96, I'm sure it's the PAL box anyway take a look:

What about Galaga 2. Friend of mine in Aust has a copy (only manual and cart though) this is a scan of the manual cover:-
http://www.furnation.com/aneirin/DC/Galaga2.jpg
I'll ask and see if he can scan the cart label too but this one isn't mentioned in the US or PAL lists as far as I could see.

anagrama

Ooh, thanks! :) Wonder if that's the same as the Japanese Galaga '91?

Dunno it's been puzzling us to (unfortunatly he'd just gone off line when I went to ask So I'll try to get a scan off him tomorrow night I'll post it here when I get it)

Found a few more references to it online, and the box can be seen here:

http://www.playnow.com.au/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=010992

That's also an Australian site, so maybe it's a little easier to find over there?
I don't think it's Oz-exclusive though, since there were a few mentions of it on Spanish & French sites aswell, amongst others.

hydr0x
04-30-2005, 02:54 PM
ok, Mr. Saturn replied to my PM about the games

here's roughly what he said

"sorry, i don't store the pics of the games i see, but i can guarantee that i have seen picture proof of every game on the list (hydr0x: he didn't mention the unrecognizable cart problem, so i don't know if that's 100% reliable) in exactly that version, so every game marked as PAL release exists as PAL."

well, i usually trust him, so you should put those on a MUST-exist, but pending list or something like that...

he also asked if you could provide pictures of the games you mentioned that he didn't have so he can add them to his list

I suspect it is just the same game as the Japanese Galaga '91 (which has been dumped).

Nothing particularly special, other than it being fairly hard to find - I just hadn't confirmed a Euro version before spotting that one above.
I've seen a couple more since then, and they all seem to have been in/around Germany - suggesting perhaps a fairly limited distribution.

Hi guys, I don't know if you'd like to ocunt this one in as it wasn't exactly a game "release".

When I got my Game Gear as a wee lad in Portugal, the system came with a pack-in called "Sega game pack 4 in 1". Obviously, this game didn't come with a box. If you want a scan, I wil
l gladly provide one 8-)

Not sure if this is the proper thread for this, but Dinobasher needs to be added to the GG rumor mill section. The March '94 review in Sega Power mentions a pending release for both the SMS and GG versions.

The scan's available in SMSPower's scans archive.

I found a mistake in the database.

The Sega Game Pack 4 in 1 was sold with box. Ok I also never saw one until I found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8198396319 on eBay. I think that's proof enough that there was a boxed version. I will deliver scans on rfgeneration, when I received the game, if wanted I can also deliver them for here. Maybe there should be a not to the game that the boxed version is realy hard to find, as almost all copies came as a pack-in cart.

anagrama

Wow, thanks! I guess it's like the later Mega Games MD compilations then - boxed versions do exist but are MUCH rarer than the loose pack-in ones - I've seen dozens and dozens of the 4-in-1 carts, but no box. Could ya let me know the part number when you get it?

Cheers! :)

No problem, I will give you the number.

And yes it's a bit like those later 6 in 1 MD games, but these show up sometimes. Most likely because people kept the plastic MD boxes, and threw away the carton GG boxes as there was a plastic case inside.
