My pixelated poison of choice for the past few years has definetly been Tactical RPG's, so I tend to get giddy when I hear about a new one being produced. Atlus has repeatedly proven themselves masters of the genre, and on Tuesday, Stella Deus hit the shelves.

I only got to play for about an hour, and the one thing that keeps resounding in my head is that this game seems like Atlus saying, "Yeah... sorry about Hoshigami you guys. Let's try that again." I mean I loved Hoshigami for the ten or so hous I played of it before I decided it was the most blisteringly difficult game I ever tried and just plain gave up. I got this thing against leveling up for four hours at a time just to advance storyline.

So far, it's probably one of the prettiest games I've seen in a long time, the battle system seems classic and simple, (but is obviously going to get deeper) and I've already gotten my keister handed to me by a boss who I think may be voiced by Mark Hammill. I think the Atus company motto must be, "Don't get cocky, jerk." but I'm glad to see they haven't gone that soft yet.

So who picked it up besides me? Any first impressions?

Thanks for the mini review Dr Funkenstein. I can't wait to pick this one up after my next paycheck :D but in the meantime I'll enjoy playing Disgaea (and I can always replay la pucelle or start Phantom Brave)

I am so looking forward to picking this up next week! Glad to hear first impressions are good. I'm still working my way through SMT: Nocturne (another Atlus winner) right now, but it's probably next on my list!

I picked it up yesterday, but I refuse to let myself play it until I finish Grandia 2 & Shadow Hearts Covenant. I'm so close to beating both of them....

I also picked it up (despite my co-workers plea's to not get it). I love strategy games and will no doubt, like this one. Unfortunately, I have to finish up my semester (and my amazing spider-man 1-500 issue cd collection), before I can start playing. So close, yet so far LOL

Yeah, I noticed that. Just once I'd like to play through a game with anime character designs that doesn't have at least once character who makes me feel embarassed to be playing the game :/ I know it's a way to get 14 year old fanboys to pick it up, but seriously, it must be cold in those town shops.

Yep and nothing like having someone walk in in the middle of one of the "sexay" scenes. Was afraid of that through my whole playthrough of God of War LOL .
