View Full Version : Did the old B&W Gameboy have ANY good racers?

I'm talking behind-the car racers, NOT overhead racers like Micro Machines

I can't seem to find any good ones. I just tried Chase HQ (gag... terrible textures, super-choppy scaling) and Street Racer Deluxe (I'm not sure what's "deluxe" about it... the texturing is better, but the control is way off and the game is too hard, even on easy. How the hell do I use a turbo?)

Did the old GB have ANY good racers that didn't use an overhead view?

:/

Not totally sure about the "view" on this one but how about F1-Race? That came with the 4-player adaptor, and the cart it self is fairly common. Anyone know more about this?

F-1 Race has a behind-the-car view. I spent a lot of time with this game back in the day, although I never got to try it with 4 players. Either way it's a fun game and I recommend it!

Hey... I think I have that one! I'll give it a try when I get home and see how it compares.

Forgot all about it! Thanks!

Lambroghini American Challenge isn't totally awful, as long as you turn the sound down - the engine noise is from the bowels of hell itself.. also, it's not ridiculously hard.

I only liked F-1 Race not what you asked but I also loved RC Pro Am.

F-1 Race is fun, wish I had been able to try it out with 3 other players though.

V-Rally
Nigel Mansell's World Championship
Super Off Road

and if it doesnt have to be B&W, try Top Gear Pocket (with the Rumble Pack)

I was totally gonna come in here and plug Wave Race, its by far my favorite racer on GB, but you said no top down :(. I had F1-Race a long time ago, but I gave it away or something. Its really fun, but a little bland. Challenging though, I'd say check it out if you got it, if not it shouldnt be more than a few bucks.

F1 Race was based off a Famicom game, wasn't it?

I found F-1 Race, uber complete and minty, 4-play adapter and all, fpr $2 mixed in with some kids video tapes at a Salvation Army once 8-)
I know the cart is cheap, but I loooove complete stuff like that (with the Gb 4-play adapter)

Is Micro Machines (GBC I think) any good? (Or does the game not even exist? lol) Not that I couldn't check...

There's always Konami's Track and Field...wrong kind of race, though!

Correct, it was based off of the Famicom game of the same name.

Ditto for Micro Machines 1 + 2 (one cartridge, two games!) and Micro Machines V3 for the GBC. I played those two more than any other GBC games, hands down.

Strange, I found Micro Machines to just be an agonizing experience in frustration.

It certainly wasn't the easiest game ...
