Many of us have played Joust with a friend, but which do you prefer... Co-op mode or attacking your pal? I enjoyed playing co-op at first, but now a fight with a fellow jouster is more satisfying. Agreed?

There are times when I work with my partner (for example, to conquer an old arcade high score), but for any casual play, there's an old saying around here: "NEVER TRUST SANTULLI". This goes for Joust, Wizard of Wor, Streets of Rage, or anything else that's supposed to be "co-op".

"NEVER TRUST SANTULLI"

That sounds like an spaghetti western. Heh.

Well in the Gladiator stage it's anyone's guess.. that's what that stage is intended for anyways :D

When it comes to Joust and competition I think of Bender saying "Bite my shiny metal ass!"

I find it difficult to not hit the other guy. I was trying to teach my wife to play and we kept running into each other. I think you need two really good players to get anywhere in co-op.

Depends really... If I am shooting for a high score then I will team up with my buddy. I used to turn against people in the arcade

You need to add my favorite option to your poll.

"Kill you friend and pretend it was an accident."

Most of my friends have quit falling for it over the past 20 years or so.

That was always my strategy...

Charles Bronson is man out for revenge, in "Never Trust Santulli."

"Wrong...Ya brought two horses too many."

I knew I should have added another option or two... yeesh. :)

Once Upon a Time in the West would make a good videogame too... oh, that's my other thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59691)... heh

The controls in Joust really allow people to adopt the "I did it by accident" excuse. That's what's so good about the game two-player. When playing it co-op, we usually try and divide the screen either horizontally or vertically. Entering someone else's territory for an extended period of time is like crossing that line in the sand, and usually ends up in someone losing feathers.

If I'm having a bad game and get down to my last life or two and it starts to look hopeless, that's when I turn my sights on my partner - especially if he's doing well. The first kill be "whoops, sorry dude!" but after the second death he'll realize I've gone AWAL and it becomes a no holds barred death match.

Never. I'll never turn on someone. I play very fairly in almost all of my games.

But if HE starts anything FIRST, look out!

I've never been up on the player vs player in Joust. In some games it really makes the game, but in Joust, I would rather just have fun getting the eggs and jousting with the creatures in the game. Of course, sometimes you just bump into the dude anyway, as has been mentioned.

Well Accidents happen.

I have been guilty of crap like that in a lot of games.

If some hotshot in an arcade pulled that too many times thougth It is entirely likely he would get fucked up.

I think I was around 15 or so in an arcade and some shit came in a game of Gauntlet just to mess us up "resleasing death from the treasure prison... taking all the food etc."

Not the smartest thing I agree... but you know sometimes you just have had enough. Punched him in the jaw. Not as hard as I can... but hard enough. I was even stuneed I did it. Sure as shit there was gonna be a fight and maybe even get in trouble "dude was at least 2 years older than me. Anyone worth their rocks would have hit somebody back for that punch. Dude teared up and left quietly. Didnt get in trouble... no Cops, no bannijng from the Arcade. The other guy who was wizard thought it was funny gave me 2 bux worth of quarters to keep playing with him.

I tend to observe gentlemen's rules: Co-op except for gladiator wave, when one intentional kill is allowed (hell, encouraged--3000 point bonus w00t!)

But I'll keep these posts in mind should I ever find myself in Santulli's joint. I've heard that I'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and...villainy.

If someone else wants to play they are taking their own destiny into their hands. 8-)
