Or do you often take your time playing new games for one reason or another? I've gotten 4 new games in the last week to 10 days...Outlaw Golf: 9 Holes of Christmas, Lego Star Wars, Doom 3 and Resident Evil 4...but haven't unwrapped a single one of them because I want to consider them birthday gifts to myself so I won't play them until then, which is a week from tomorrow. In fact, I just realized I also haven't played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and I've had that since January or February...so that's 5 games I still need to play in the near future...

For new games, yes...for old games, it's usually easier to continue emulating them.

Same here. I have a pretty small room, and it's a hell of a lot of hassle getting behind my TV to plug in all the wires for any of the games I get for older consoles.

well, i try to play any game that cost me more than 20$, but for old stuff, it often happens that i don't play it for months :/

I say I dont play them right away. I have about 40 games that I have purchased in the last 2 months that I havent even touched.

I open and play a little of every game I get. If I like it I put it in front of the list of games to play, if I dont, it goes in the list of games I'll get around to playing when I'm not playing anything.

I usually at least test them out, unless I bought them because they were rare and are actually crappy games :p

It realy depends on if I have the system handy and also have the time. These days I try to play every game I get atleast half an hour to see if I will like it. The sad part is there are around 50 PS1 games I have yet to play.

I do that, although usually I play it for 5 minutes, and never go back to it. :/

Usually if I get an older used classic game I usually go at it right away but with new current stuff I still have stuff unopened as I havent got around to it.

I will if it's something I've wanted and/or I've spent more than I usually do on games. Carts have to be cleaned first (in fact, I have a bunch of carts that I've gotten over the past couple months that I haven't gotten around to cleaning yet). I don't mind letting most of the current-gen games I've bought on the cheap sit around a while.

It depends. I'll usually try out old stuff right away, but the newer stuff waits until I'm 100% ready to put some real time into it.

Sad as it is to say, most new games sit around for up to 2+ years before I get around to playing them. I have a rather large stack right now that I have not gotten to yet. :embarrassed:

Same here, I have at least that many that I haven't played. Some I'll probably never play. Too many games, too little time. :embarrassed:

For brand new games I usually get around to them fairly quickly. For anything used, never. For instance, I bought Growlanser Generations, Resident Evil 4, and Suikoden IV within 5 days of eachother, and the only one I've played (and subsequently beaten) is RE4. Right now I'm STILL in the middle of Doom 3, and I've since purchased and beat Xenosaga 2 and right now am playing through God of War.

I'm on the lookout for a bunch of games still, mostly newer RPGs which I'm sure I'll find used, most notably Shin Megami everything. If I do find them, I'll buy them and put them in the stash and Suikoden IV is absolutely next in line after I finish God of War, simply because I bought it new.

Well, I guess you could say I play the ones I buy brand new (full price) get played first because I wanted them bad enough to pay the full ticket.

I always test games right away to make sure they work, but unless it's a short action/platform game, I'll put it away until I have time to delve into it.

Ditto. The first thing I do when I get home is clean the games. If there are stickers, they get a Goo Gone treatment. If the games are cart based, they always get a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol rubbing. If they are CD's, I just whipe the smudges and finger prints off with a soft, damp cloth. But after that, I always test the games. As long as they work, many will get stored away and wait a couple of months before they get a playthrough.

I make it a point to test almost everything I get right away. The only reasons that I wouldn't would be if some random problem or task comes up and I get sidetracked. For NES games, I keep trying them until the screen stops flashing light blue or green and they work. For more recent games, I know that, unless some lamentable factory error was committed, they'll be alright if I buy them new, so I can be a bit more patient with them. Summing it all up, the urgency to play is raised with the age of the game.

I test and clean everything usually within a day of buying it. But 90% of the time, I don't play the games unless its something I really want to. I figure once I have most of what I want I'll go through the backlog. But I'm probably just kidding myself.

For new releases, I usually try them out right away and then start whittling away at them as quickly as possible. Some older games I start playing right away, some I just stick right into my collection and don't touch em for a while. It depends on the game and what I'm in the mood to play. Old RPGs that I've bought again since I have fond memories of them usually get a few hours of play then sit and gather dust for a few years before I really get into them again. 8-)

I usually just pile up my new purchases unless it is a title that I've been dying to try out.

I used to always test my new acquisitions but I been getting lazy. Sometimes now I settle for just looking at the CD and going "eh, it looks fine enough, should work" and store it away.

One poster said "I got a huge backlog that I say I'll get to one day. Who am I kidding myself?"

Heh... I think too many of us fall in that trap. We get in this game buying mode just coz. It's funny...

For any I game I aquire, most likely no. It takes me quite some time to get around to sitting down and starting up a game. I hate the starting up part, but once I'm into a game I'm hooked. I've had Lunar: SS on sega cd for over a year and just recently sat down and beat it about a week ago. I've also had Shin Megami Tensei since Christmas and finally started it up about a week ago as well.

Do you get the impression that we all get more games than we should?

"Hello, my name is Roger and I'm a game-a-holic..."

I must confess that I also have many games I've not gotten to...which is one of many reasons I'm trying to be more selective on what I buy. If I buy it, I gotta play it!

One of my goals for this year was to conciously stop hoarding games for the current gen systems. That's not where my collection lies, so it doesn't make much sense to have a pile of money tied up in games that I bought the day they were released....and get around to playing AFTER they've been through a price drop or two. I could have saved cash if I had waited to buy them. Too many unnecessary purchases in the past. I don't know what it is about the Xbox....but I find that I complete games at a regular pace. I tended to have too much stuff for the PS2 that sat around unfinished, which is why I dumped it.

To answer the thread, I do what I've always done. I open a game when I get home, watch the opening CG and maybe try a level or track, then put it on the shelf to be played later. My N64 stuff usually gets put straight on the shelf and ignored because, being the focus of my collecting, I have tons of time ahead of me to play those games and it will never become trade-in fodder.

It really depends on the situation. If I get a brand new game for the original price (no bargain or something) then it's a game I want so much I can't wait to start playing. But if it's a game I just got because it's a bargain that interests me then it might take some time until I start playing it. Especially if I'm allready playing a game that I absolutely adore. I have several new games I haven't touched or just played the first few minutes. I don't spend that much time playing at the moment and I feel a bit bad about those games but on the other hand I'm still not done with FF I on Dawn Of Souls and Champions Of Norrath so stuff like Rygar on the PS2 just has to wait.

I always test them right away if I have the time. Exceptions are sports games and the likes, which don't really interest me. I don't buy them specifically, but usually get them in a lot with more interesting stuff. I store them right away :)

"Hello, my name is Roger and I'm a game-a-holic..."

"Hi Roger!

Don't worry, my name is Dan and I'm trying to deal with the same problem..."

I'm starting the same try-to-be-selective business. Whenever I get a new game, I almost *never* play it for a few weeks. I picked up a bunch of GameCube games a long time ago, and I have finally opened most of them. I tend to get a new game, get home and before playing it see another game I want to play and play that instead. I probably have somewhere between 15 and 20 out of 50 current gen games (not including Dreamcast) that I bought to play and I haven't.

I'm working on solving this too. I've set a goal to beat a bunch of GameCube games lately, and I'm almost halfway through it :)

Anything modern to NES I usually do hook the console up and try it out. if I like it I play it for awhile before putting it up in my collection or one my bins to play later on.

rule of thumb for me....if I don't beat the game in 7 days chances are it won't be beaten anytime soon

so yeah I try to play everything but I'm starting to amass a huge stack of sealed games
