View Full Version : Most you've paid for an accessory

I just bought a gun for 3d0 for $54 shipped and as my friend shakes her head in confusion I wanted to know what is the most you've ever paid for an accessory.
I've seen other threads like this for most paid for a single game, etc., but not for an accessory (although I could have missed the thread).
Latly I've been buying a lot of accessories for whatever reason (gameboy player for ngc, fishing rod for dc, sega net cart for saturn (which I'm going to sell because it's nib & I feel bad opening it!) and they sometimes really seem to add a lot to the game.
So maybe you haven't spent an arm and a leg on an accessory, but if you've got one that really adds a new feel to the game (as the fishing rod does for sega bass) then I'd like to know about it. And was the most expensive accessory worth it?

Does Steel Battalion count? Even though it comes with a game? If so that for $200.
I want so many more accesories that I plan on picking up this summer. Like the sword for ps2 and Dreamcast Maracas.

$99 for X-Arcade and $99 for ASCII Keyboard Controller on GameCube... X-Arcade is a piece. And I'm not online with my GameCube, so the Keyboard was a waste... but I may take it online sometime. I just think its cool, its pretty comfortable to hold, very well made.

Not counting extra first party controllers and memory cards, It's a tie: $4.99 for a new MadCatz Retrocon controller for PS2, and a complete Genesis Game Genie. Yeah, I haven't bought many accessories. A Game Boy Player will most likely shatter the record sooner or later, though.

Heh. It was from that period in early 2004 where the controllers were pretty tough to find.

Makes sense. I can't even remember what I paid for mine (bought it off a friend)
Local Japanese toy store here (local as in about an hour away) has a IIDX ASC for...$445? Something above 400. I think it'll stay there for a while.

Well I have broadband adapters for my Dreamcast and Gamecube ... I know I paid over 50 for both my PS2 and my Xbox modchips ... if switchboxes count I have about $300 in switchboxes (not to mention cables). Do console copiers count as accessories? If so, throw in another grand or so.

Yeah, its a real wheel. Its a Thomas Superwheel PC steering wheel/pedals.
Some expensive stuff when you get into controllers for PC simulations. You can get desktop locomotive controls for train simulators, expensive flight yokes and rudder pedals for flight simulators, etc.
People that enjoy simulations tend to become obsessed. :)

I paid around $150 for the Elemental Gearbolt Assassins Case that contained a gold Guncon and PS1 memory card. Although, that was more of a promotional item than an accessory.
Just paid $130+ for a new Ace Combat 5 flight stick bundle a couple months ago.

$200 for a Hot Rod arcade joystick control for playing MAME on my PC.
$120 or so for a TV adapter for my Game Gear (I bought it new, years ago).

I ditto that. I consider it a $150 accessory that came with a $50 game. Other than that, I've spent $60 or so on a nice DDR pad, $80 on a Bemani controller. I've come reeeeeally close to buying a $160 or so PC Joystick for emulation, but I haven't given in yet.

From what I can remember $10 for a GameCube 3rd party controller, I pay so little for accessories, most of the time they are for collectors purposes and are from junk stores or bought with console lots.

$80 for a Xbox componant to vga converter. I never use the damn thing for the Xbox so
$40 for componant cable for the gamecube.
Now the converter gets used. :)
$50 for EyeToy w/ Groove, if that counts.

My Steel Battalion only cost me $80, so....
Tekken 5 arcade stick? $99 bucks, but that included the game...
Hum...
I guess for a pure accessory, I'll have to go with the DC Arcade Stick. I think it was $70 at launch. Had to have it for MvC and Soul Calibur.

The BBA will be the most expensive accessory I will buy once I get around to dropping $130 on it. You can still play dc games online and even if you couldn't you can use the BBA for other things as well (ripping games, making your own stuff, whatever).

$80 for a keyboard/controller hybrid so that I could play FFXI on PS2. Not bad considering that I played for over a year.

Paid $250 + tax (CAD) for a NIB Steel Battalion when it first came out and sold it on Ebay (for $350 US). Then I paid $215 for a NIB v2 one at a game shop and eventually traded it back in.. then I paid $100 for a NIB v2 one at TRU on clearance (I'm keeping this one). :D I like the v2 one better.. nice blue buttons. It's a shame SB's are so rare in the US, they're all over the place up here.
I wish they'd make some more games for the controller... a Mechwarrior game would be sweet.

Wow, so this accessory seems to be the most common by far. I've never even heard of it (where have I been). Is there any other reason you like the v2 better than the v1, or is just the color of the buttons?
I read on an auction that the v1 was higher quality and was made by a different company than the v2, but the guy was selling the v1 so...

As far as I know, both version 1 (green buttons) and version 2 (blue buttons) were manufactured by Sammy. With respect to quality, most of the complaints about component failures in the main (upper) controller blocks have involved v2 controllers. Not that component failure is common, but it seems to be mostly limited to the v2 controllers. I've not had any problem at all with my v1 upper controller blocks.
Footpedal block problems seem to crop up in both versions around 150-200 hours of play time, but with minor repairs (spring reassignment and replacement) I've kept my original footpedal block running for over 400 hours (actual "combat operation" time).

yeah, that would be £125 for a PAL Samba De Amigo box set. It was a little gift to myself for clearing my overdraft. I overspent a little, but I wanted it sooooo bad!!
And I made up for it by getting a second box set shortly after for £65. Woohoo!

I paid sixty bucks for this chunk of PS1-compatible loveliness so I could get my Crazy Cliimber/Robotron/Black Widow thang on:
http://www.thelogbook.com/wishlist/psxstick.jpg
...that was about 2 1/2 years ago.
I paid almost, but not quite, $100 for a Wico Atari 5200 joystick/keypad combo. Don't regret it one bit, either.
I paid.......more than that......for one of the four Odyssey2 trackball controllers known to exist.

(And I'm passing the savings on to you - it'll once again be available for the public to play at this year's OVGE (http://www.okge.com), next month in Tulsa! [/end pimp mode])
Most I paid was $25CAD for a mint and boxed Super Scope. Then again I don't have many accessories anyway...yet!

I haven't sunk a lot of time into the game yet. It's tough to play with the kids hovering around the controller in permanent "WOW" Mode. From what I've seen so far (and from what friends have told me), the game isn't great, but the immersion factor is pretty high. If I never get around to finishing the game, I'm ok with that. The controller is more of a trophy anyways.

After using both, I'd say the quality was pretty much the same for both.. the only difference was the button colour.. oh, and the right stick was a little sturdier (I found the v1 to be a little to loose).
Is there a difference in rarity, anyone?

Oh, I'm sure that they both feel quite sturdy. I was just pointing out that the internet reports of "o noes my eject button / tuner dial / shift lever is broke" seem to be mostly confined to the blue button models. I'm glad that both have held up for you under use. As for the right stick being stiffer/looser, they all loosen up with use.
I don't know of any difference in rarity between the two models, although I suspect that most of the sealed sets available these days would be v2.
