This list is reader polled so don't get too mad at some of the placings. RE 4 although quite good doesn't belong in first place and like Halo 2 and GTA San Andreas probably shouldn't be on this list at all although again good games but not the very best. Same goes for Final Fantasy VII and X and many others but as I said before its Reader polled so it doesn't hold too much merrit as a whole as most of the games polled in the list are from current gen systems with a few great ones from the past scattered throughout.

There are something on there that I agree with, but so much more I don't. However, it's a reader poll, so I'll take it with a grain of salt.

I don't care what anyone says, I think Tetris should be in the top ten. the numerous incarnations this game has taken on, windows clones, just about every console systm 1989 to present, ti-calculators, keychains, etc.

It has to be one of the 10 greatest games of all time. Anyone can pick it up. Easy to learn, hard to master.

Well there's certainly enough SEGA games in there..but no Sonic game :hmm:

As for Gunstar heroes '1997'?!

I don't really know how Resident Evil 4 deserves to be the #1 game, based on reader polls. It just came out recently. An NES, SNES, or Genesis game should've been on top.

i really need to play chrono trigger, and i really need to buy re. but i was i expecting zelda oot to be #1 by a long shot, and when i saw it at #2, i almost didn't want to finish the list. but otherwise, there were some games that made the list because 10 people gave them 10s, while other games (alot of current gen sports) didn't have anyplace in the top 200

Radiant Silvergun #12......

Way to vote for a game based on reputation alone, dumbass ign members :/

Wow RE4 number one. A lot of the places I didn't agree with, but it is a reader poll.

The following list was created using reader review ratings for the 31,000 plus videogames in our extensive database. Your ratings were collected, compiled and arranged into this exhaustive list based on your user data up to April 11, 2005.

In other words, they just took existing reader ratings and compiled them. There was no poll taken for the list.

All games had to receive at least 100 reader ratings.

There's your answer for how Radiant Silvergun got on there! It has 147 ratings (with an average of 9.6). A popular modern game like RE4 has thousands (or even tens of thousands).

That could be one of the worst "top anything" lists I've ever seen. It was saturated with games that came out this year or mid to end of 2004. EGM has done the best Top 100 games list in my opinion. They prevented current games from being considered which really lets the current pretty stuff (Prince of Persia) sink to the bottom, and the good games stand out. I would say my biggest beef would be the top 10. RE4, MGS3, God of War, GTA: SA, Splinter Cell (?!?), and even Half Life 2 don't deserve to be on that list. Give it two years and Half Life 2 and RE4 will be the only games from that group that still rank in the top 50.

As soon as I saw that it was based on readers' scores, I knew I wasn't going to bother taking a look.

Agreed all around. PC games especially were woefully sparse on the list, and only come from recent bestsellers. I don't recall seeing any Ultima, X-Com, Warcraft RTS, Wolfenstein 3D, really anything that indicates IGNs readers even own a computer, aside from the fact they can get online from somewhere.

That list is the worst I have ever personally seen in my life! The only NES era game in the top 50 is SMB 3. I have a feeling that the majority of people who voted for this are in the 14-18 age group. The list is 90% current generation games. Where the hell is Pac-man, Tetris, Sonic 2 ??? I only looked at the top 50, because by that time I was getting sick to my stomach. :shameful:

Considering how the list was created, I don't think it's too bad. Obviously when you see NCAA 2004 above the Legend of Zelda there's something amiss, but overall it's not too horrid.

As for RE4 being number one... maybe not, but it deserves top 5 easy.

Halo 1 and Halo 2 both outranked any Final Fantasy title.
Sigh.

1) Any "top 10/50/100 games ever" list will be full of stuff you disagree with.
2) IGN is dumb.
3) Reader polls give poor results.

Combine all three? You get one of the most useless lists ever! LOL

I agree a very weak list at best

I mean whats with all the damn sports games?

IGN is lame anyway any game that doesnt have ONLINE capabilities or the names Grand Theft Auto or Halo plastered all over them they usually shit on no matter if its a good game or not.

God of War? Top ten?

RE4 at number one?

An NGPC title made it on there? (That one I'm not complaining about, SNK vs. Capcom was an excellent title, and in my personal top 20)

No Tetris in ANY form?

BOTH SHENMUE TITLES!?

What a HORRIBLE joke. Not even that funny.

Though I am tickled that FFIII did better than FFVII, that much I did find pleasing to see.

Someone did a top 255 list and took polled results from like, 30 forums. That was the best one I've seen, IMO.

The only thing good about this list was that final fantasy 7 wasn't on top.

It seems as if a lot of 10 year olds voted on this one. Most of those games aren't even 2 years old. IGN tsk tsk.

I called BS on that list before I even saw it.

Later, I saw Metal Gear Solid 2 on a top 100 videogames of all times list. Weak.

The top ten is nonsense. It's almost like they asked "What were the last ten games you played?"

Come on now... RE4, the best game of all time? I'm pretty sure if the best game ever came out in the last 5 months, I would know it. People would be jumping out of their seats to get it. We'd all be going AWMANDIDYOUPLAYRE4WITHTHEZOMBIESANDTHENINJASSUPERS WEETGOTTAGOGOTTAREPLAYIT, instead of asserting "RE4..." and shruging.

Heretofore, I'm not reading any top anything list without confirming that both pac-man and donkey kong (the original) are included.

Crazzzzzyyyy, what bunch of mutant inbreds voted for this? Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory as the 3rd best game ever? rahhh. That has to be the craziest thing ever
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at number nine? Whyyyy, not that good a game
Ah well, all down to opinion. The opinions of morons...but yeah. Hmmm
