Doing the game trawl thing this week with Kris, she's been hitting the credit card again (despite trying to stop her :P ) and there's currently a "send in $100 receipts to get $25 back" offer.

Anyhow, we were going through the receipts and we notice two different codes for pre-owned. One is PO, which is the standard I guess. A few of them had POX instead. Any idea what this is supposed to mean?

PO = Pre Owned

POX = Pre Owned Excluded

Pre Owned Excluded simply means that you cannot trade that game in during a promotion, such as "trade in 5 get GT4 free" or something along those lines.

POX games are usually crappy games that are oversaturated in the market and people are trying to trade in by the bucketload. Think "Primal" or any old sports game.

Speaking of EB Games, there's a kind of fun piece in the new EGM in which a woman went to four different places that sold games and pretended to be totally unfamiliar with games to see what kind of service she was provided and how much the people there knew about games. The person at EB Games was totally disdainful towards her as if he didn't want to talk to anyone but true knowledgable gamers. If such a piece influenced me, it would make EB about the last place I'd want to buy games...

i don't give a flying fuck about the service a game store gives, unless they try to attack me. all i care about is

1. game selection
2. prices

It could be a regional thing. The people at EBs around here have always been very nice to me (calling around to other stores in the area looking for Dreamcast games), while the folks at Game Stop make me want to scratch my eyeballs out. Nothing beats a local store if ya got one near you.

Mini-rant: the worst stores are clothing stores! I swear some of them purposely hire aloof, mean-spirited people just to make your clothing buying experience as thankless as possible.

Me too. Once I bought a bunch of boxed NES games at EB. The guy asked me if I bought them to collect or play. I answered "A little of both," which he seemed to think was cool. No scorn or disdain that I could detect (although he could have started howling with derisive laughter once I left the store, I don't know). The EB employees around here usually seem friendly and knowledgable.

They seem nice around here but remember that I said this guy seemed to be basically miffed at having to answer simple questions from someone new to video games. He preferred to deal with knowledgable customers...which we all are. The one guy I usually deal with at my local EB is someone with a British accent. It makes me wonder what someone from the United Kingdom is doing in Steubenville, Ohio!

Around here (Minnesota - where it should all still be FuncoLand's!) we don't really have that many EB's. It's all GameStop's that were FL's. The GameStop's are OK as far as customer service goes, but I do enjoy going to the few EB's. Now that EB and GameStop are merging though it's not like it matters anymore. We went from 3 competitors in the last few years to 1 monopoly. Yay!
