I was looking at an old worn out box for a SNES system the other day when I noticed this ad on the back:

Very interesting. Someone bought this proto off of ebay some time ago, and the game was changed to Kirby's Dream Course, Special Tee Shot was never released. If anyone wants the pic save it because it may be unhosted in the future.

Whoa. Never knew that, and Kirby's Dream Course is one of my absolute favorite SNES games. It was released in Japan as Kirby Ball/Kirby Bowl, maybe the U.S. release came first?

I believe I read in Nintendo Power that it was Named the following ways: Special Tee Shot, Kirby's Special Tee Shot, then Kirby's Dream Course. Cool stuff

There was in fact a Kirby-free release of Special Tee Shot for the Bandai Satellaview (funny how that keeps coming up). I seem to recall that it did have a full release for the Super Famicom, though.

someone here from DP did an excellent write-up to compare the special tee shot proto with the final Kirby game, can't remember the site though

IIRC, it was at SNES central. Check the prototype forum, because I'm sure that the topic is still there.

"The most realistic" golf game eh? I love the game to death but it hardly strikes me as being realistic in -any- way. Maybe I just go to really borning golf courses or something. LOL

BTW v1rich can I use your pic for my site? Oh, and the game is really fun, I really don't know why it was never released O_O

I just played Special Tee Shot and the screenshot on the right of the box is Beginner hole #3 (Steps) and the one on the left is very similar to Beginner hole #6 (Steps 2). The only difference is that the thing on the back is on the left side of the screen in the game instead of the right side like pictured on the back of the box. The screenshots are from the prototype because I played the Bandai Satellaview X version and they are nowhere in the game.
