Hmm...I've gotten some Ninja Warriors (SNES) carts quite cheaply! Also guide books for Sin & Punishment and Silent Bomber, both off eBay - I think neither was over $10 or if so much over.

I have not been so lucky as I know many of you have, but I have a few luck stories...

-That bad X-Box fighter that was taken off the market for a whole .01... forgot the name

-Death Crimson (a rare Saturn gun shooter... too bad it's so awful) for free from a Game store owner who thought it had been released in the Sates and gave it to me when I bought some 3DO games

-Lunar for $10 (Sega CD)

-The box & instructiosn for the Game Gear Shining Force game for .50 from a store that didn't have the cart (I had it loose at home)

-International Superstar Soccer 2000 from EBgames COMPLETE for $2 (today!)

not much else I remember, really

I once found a complete Shemume II (PAL) at my local goodwill for $5.

Needless to say, an odd and semi-rare find here in the states.

I've gotten plenty of cheap and free games in the past. Hell, just today I got a working saturn with controller and complete Resident Evil: CV at the flea market for 4 dollars. That's pretty good i'd say. As for downright free crap though.. Well bonaccorsi threw in a Brazilian copy of Tiger Heli when I order a couple games off him, BUT I think the best deal I ever got (free or not) was a freind who gave me his complete mint copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga.

I got my N-Gage for $75 with $200 in rebates. So I actaully made $125. Of course that's with a phone plan and all. I also did this when Nokia was giving $20 rebates when you bought 3 N-Gage games which happened during the same time EB Games had N-Gage games for $5 so I made $5 for every 3 games I bought during that deal. Nokia allowed up to 4 entries per household. All in all it was a hell of a way to start a collection and it helped me be only two games away from a complete up to date N-Gage collection.

i got my SNES, 25 games, and 4 strategy guides for free, my gamecube for 20 bucks (the guy thought it was broken but it turned out it just needed to have its lens cleaned), and an Xbox controller S from my friend, after my other friend bent one of the little contacts in the quick-release while trying to stick it back together (i tripped over the cord :D )

Ps2 was free because it was "broken", I've since fixed ti with my "mess with the white gear" method.

While working at goodwill I got an Odesyseysyee and a Vectrex free, as well as what was my third dreamcast but I gave that one to a friend. Also got my GBC there.

And of course my original genesis and snes from xmases long past, ect.

I used to get all kinds of free stuff when I worked at a used game store. The store wouldn't take any carts that rattled inside, had torn labels, or cracks in their casings.

By the time I left I had 30 or 40 NES, SNES, and Genesis carts in various states of condition.

As far as cheap stuff goes (relatively speaking) this is my best:

Starfox Super Weekend cart - free :D

Sega Master System store demo unit - $50.00

Snather complete for Sega CD - $7.00

Chavez II for SNES - $7.00

Had a friend give me about 5 years of Gamepro, EGM, and Nintendo Power mags for free this weekend....all of them are in great condition too. Its a good thing I asked him if he had any old gaming stuff he wanted to get rid of cause he was planning on throwing them all out.

I know a guy at work who used to be a retro gamer. He's gotten out of the hobby and I luckily get to be the dumping ground for all of his excess goodies. He's given me boxes of loose manuals, boxes, game magazines, controllers, and "broken" systems. I usually try to give him money for this stuff, but he only ever charged me for the Intellivision and O2 he sold me. Good times.

Not counting birthday and holiday gifts, here's what I can remember:

-Super Mario RPG from a friend of mine who found it at a garage sale for 5 bucks. He gave it to me for free for helping him find some NES games he was looking for.

-Two PS2 Jampacks (Winter 2003 and Vol. 10) for a penny each at Circuit City.

-Jurassic Park (SNES, loose), and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (SNES, loose) from a friend who didn't want them.

-free games from B2G1 sales:
Star Fox Adventures (GCN, complete, non-Player's Choice)
Twisted Metal: Black (PS2, complete, non-GH)
Cleopatra's Fortune (PSX, complete)
Spyro The Dragon (PSX, complete, GH)
Grand Theft Auto III (PS2, non-GH, missing a map but I got one from Jibbajaba - thanks! :) )

-Halo 2 pin from a free box at a local CD/Game Exchange

-4 PlayStation manuals in the same free box:
Resident Evil 3
Medal Of Honor
Monopoly (GH)
Space Invaders

(RE3 and Medal Of Honor have found homes with other DP'ers, but Monopoly and Space Invaders are still available. If anybody needs them, send me a PM.)

-A Prince Of Persia case (PS2, non-GH) from a friend of mine who replaced a missing copy. I kept the PS2 case since I needed it to replace another case, but if anybody needs the box insert and manual, PM me.

I received Ehrgeiz from my cousin since his PS1 wouldn't play the game. Another cousin also let me have a copy of Final Fantasy II/IV that was mysteriously in his closet. He didn't own an SNES...

When a friend of mine found out I was really starting to get into the collecting thing, he let me go through his closet filled with old stuff from when he was younger and take whatever I wanted. I ended up w/ StarCraft 64, Kirby 64, Lufia II and a TON more. It was a fun day for me. :D

Let's see here:

Top loader NES for $.99 at EB back in '97.

Stacks of NES games from a video store my friend worked at that people no longer really rented for $1.00 a pop.

My 3rd Sega Saturn was given to me free.

My boss gave me a copy of Donkey Kong Country 2 CIB for free.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

O.K. let's see I could post pages, but we'll stick with the first that come to mind.

Used to dozens and dozens of free NES titles when EB Games didn't take them on trade...people would just tell me to throw them away....sure I will!

I have a near complete Game Gear collection (over 100 different titles)...I have NEVER reach into my pocket to pay for an american release. People would bring in 20 cartridges at a time and I would tell them EB doesn't take them...once again into the "trashcan" they went...strangely enough my gameroom looks like a trashcan.

Every magazine from every publisher ever....ever...really I just threw away hundreds of Gamepros and other crap not worthy of my collection.

Every strategy guide you could want, I only kept the best stuff. But man did I throw away THOUSANDS of strategy guides over the past decade or so.

Like I said I could go on and on but this is some of the first things I thought of.

Were in Time is Carman Sandieago (SNES) complete also from a cousin

Midway Arcade Treasures new. Was going to purchase the game with cash. When I saw I didn't have enough I went to the ATM and lo and behold some one left $20 in the slot. So I count it as a free game.

This is an ooooold story but true. Delivering papers circa 1980's, and next to one house I delivered to is a garage sale. I see a colecovision and 4 games. Looks like it was never touched. I ask the lady why she was selling it... her son didn't like it. I almost died. Next I asked what she wanted. It worked out to newspapers for free for like 10 or so weeks. That for me, was basically free.

Once I was at a flee market and i spotted a Commodore C16 (or plus 4, can't remember). Anyway, the seller wanted something like $5 for it. That seemed a fair deal to me so i buy the thing and start walking away. After around 10 meters or so the little kid of the guy (my estimate would be 12 years or so) that sold me the Commodore comes after me yelling "Sir, sir you forgot the monitor". Not knowing there was a monitor included, i turn around and the little kid hands me a Vectrex !!! Too surprised to say anything i take the console out of his hand and the kids sprints back to his parent. I immediately walk back to the car to put it away and to check the rest of the market (didn't find anything else). On the way back to the car i pass the stand of the seller again at which point the guy says "oh yeah, we found some games for the Commodore too, here you can have them too" and hands me a box with about 8 loose vectrex games and a few overlays. I went home, tested it and everything worked flawlessly. Needless to say it was one of the better deals i've ever got :)

Cheers,
Raymond
