I wanted to give everyone a heads up that I saw a GameStop the other day carrying two new boxed sets. I expect the boxes will be rather hard to find in the future, so if you are interested you might want to pick them up:

Both boxed sets are Player's Choice sets. The boxes even have the yellow on them. They cost $30.00. One is Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and one is Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2.

If you don't already have these games and own a GameCube, I'd say that you should run out and grab the sets right not -- for that price, they're unbeatable.

On an aside, if anyone picks up either of these sets and doesn't want the boxes, I'd be very interested. PM me and we could work out a trade or something :)

The annoying part being that I own one out of each box already. LOL

I saw the sonic one the other day though, kinda funky, but I've been sorta thinking about making a "boxed" collection...these, zelda 4 swords, mario party 6...there's also a few pretty good xbox games that come in these, and Digital Devil Saga...damn I need to find myself a new job already.

I heard about the Sonic box set, but the Super Monkey Ball set is new to me.

Anyone have a picture of what they look like? I haven't seen them yet.

Same here (Sonic DX and the first Monkey Ball for me).

I've seen both sets at TRU (although some of the Sonic sets had Sonic Mega Collection instead of SA2) but this is the first time I've heard of them having their own box. Pretty cool.

Also, according to CheapAssGamer, the Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 set is on sale for $24.99 at Fry's (in the Dallas/Fort Worth and San Jose area, at least). Don't know if that set has the box, though.

I hate boxed sets of games I already own almost as much as greatest hits/players choice variations. the temptation to get them again even if I already own them is just too big.

Ugh. Figures, I already own all FOUR of those games. Ah well.

Yeah, I need that Sonic box.

If you get an extra somehow, heh, someway, tell me :P

I want one!

There was a "set" at Toys R Us for a while of the two games together, but that wasn't in a box. I got my copies of SMB that way.

I bought my copies of both Sonic's at Best Buy during a buy-two player's choice games for $25.00.

I really like the boxes though. It's basically like the RE: Pure Evil set.

Saw both of them during the game trawl QoF and I did last week. Needless to say I've got one of each in the box already too!

Okay, I have a Cube, I have many games before. I have NEVER played any of the Super Monkey Balls, nor any of the NEW Sonic Adventures. The most I have played is the first level of Sonic Adventure 1 for Dreamcast. I know these are Players Choice games which means they have sold very well, but are they really good? Can I have some opinions on all 4 titles?

I've only played the first Monkey Ball so far, but I have to say it's a must-own in anybody's Gamecube collection.

Dan, thanks for the heads up! I really appreciate it.

I didn't have the four games, but they were on my 'maybe'-list. For $15 each and in particular with the boxes, it is a great deal. I picked them up today.

On the cover of the boxes it doesn't say Gamestop Exclusive, but since I haven't seen them anywhere else I guess they are GS exclusives.

Dan, thanks for the heads up! I really appreciate it.

No problem!

As for quick reviews:

Sonic Adventure DX is a great game, but it is a straight port of the Dreamcast game, only with a bunch of emulated Game Gear games you can unlock. I just beat this one last week. I really liked every part of it except the Big missions, but they are worth playing through for the ending.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is a good game, and another port this time with some two player modes. I don't like it as much as SA1, but your mileage may vary. I hate the Knuckles / Bat Girl levels, and don't really care for the Tails / Robotnik levels either. The Sonic / Shadow levels are for the most part really cool though. It seems like they tried to shove too much into this one though, and that is why I think I don't like it as much.

Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 I can review together because they both just rock. I was tempted to buy a GameCube for these games when they first were released, but kept holding out. After I finally got a GameCube, it took me three months to finally pick them up. Why I didn't sooner is a mystery. It has a little Marble Madness feel to the actual games -- I like the SMB1 levels more than the SMB2 levels so far. The mini-games are what you fall in love with though -- I play SMB2 Monkey Target all the time with friends. In fact, because of it both of my friends that I usually play with picked up the game.

They are, if you don't have the DC versions of the GameCube games (or like me, do, but it is easier to play your GameCube than your Dreamcast), all of the games are worth picking up. If you have SA1 and SA2 on the Dreamcast, you probably don't need to bother with the Sonic games unless you refuse to pick up Sonic Mega Collection and want to play the Game Gear games.

Thanks for the review!

For me the boxed set were a sweet deal because I don't have Sonic and Sonic 2 for the DC (although I have a DC). Together with the Sonic Mega Collection which I have also for the GC, the boxed set is a greatt compilation of classic Sonic games.

...and I have to give those Monkey Balls a try!
