So at the arcade i work at we just got Initial D 3...needless to say its a HUGE hit right now, and I'm totally addicted myself (thankfully I get free tokens). The card feature is also totally awesome, and i LOVE getting the upgrades for my car.

Anyone else playing this, or got any tips?...or anything!

I also had a question...to me it seems that all the cars just run the exact same, speed/handling wise...and the only thing that matters is what car looks the best...is this true or do the cars actually run differently?

Well, according to this site here:
http://initiald.sega.jp/english/ac_ver03/car.html

... it seems that some cars have Turbo while others don't, so I guess that might be a small difference. It's hard to tell, really.

e had Initial D ver3 at the arcade at my mall for about 6 months before they took it out. Somehow it wasn't as big a money maker there as DDR Extreme is. :hmm:

Most of the cars seem to run fairly similarly. The differences are pretty minor. But being an arcade game, it wouldn't be very interesting to see Miata get constantly blown away by a tuned Skyline or something. I've heard that the drivetrain makes the biggest difference, and that an FR will handle differently from an FF, but even that difference seems pretty subtle.

As for playing the game well, do everything in your power to avoid hitting walls. That slows you down considerably, and your acceleration near the top end isn't that great to begin with, so it will take a little while to recover the speed loss. And if you slam a wall hard enough, you'll be stuck in a lower gear for a moment, giving your opponent plenty of time to shoot past you. Basically, you'll have to perfect drifting without hitting walls to really excel at the game.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard the English dub is a disgrace. Apparently the character names have been somewhat westernized, the dialog is pretty loosely adapted, and I think even the usual Eurobeat soundtrack has been replaced with hip-hop kind of garbage. Those reviews don't exactly make me want to run out and find a copy on DVD. Ha ha.

I

Am

A

HUGE FAN OF INITIAL D: ARCADE STAGE!!!
I am pretty skilled, not better than others but better than some. If you need any help, I can give you tips!

The cars I own now are:

Bunta's Imprezza
Tak's Trueno
Lancer Evo 3 and 7
Mazda RX 7
Honda Integra

I'm not big into racing games, but this one really gets you pumped! And you gotta love that Eurobeat music. My favorite tracks are:

Spaceboy
Night on fire
Don't stop the Music
Heartbeat
and though it isn't in the game: No one sleeps in tokyo!

You're right about the anime. But if you need a pure fix of initial D, don't be afraid to pick up the manga. And you can get Hong Kong Pirates of the Anime on eBay completely uncut with english subtitles.

Anyone looking to buy the manga should check out, of all places, Radio Shack. They thought they had a hit on their hands with those little customizable cars (Initial D licensed) and at some point acquired more of the manga bundles (vols 1-3) than they could ever hope to sell, so they're clearancing them out for $5 right now. Not a bad price for what would generally cost you $30.

Yeah that games a blast! My friends and me drive for an hour to get to a town called Burnsville to play it basically all day, there's always tons of asians playing it (although theres a spin-off game that came out that seems to get more attention...), it's quite funny watching 3 white guys in a big group of asians. XD

The actual game would be boring by yourself, it's the fact that you're being watched by a lot of people and spent money, you can't lose now!! Plus, racing against other people gets very intense.

I really LOVE Initial D, I find it by my taste that is better in gameplay than Wangan Maximum Tume, although Wangan have way better music and above all, the card based system . Both have the same issues regarding cards getting stuck, or loosing data on the reader/writer, but in Wangan you can make back-ups of the previous card used in the game, in Inidial-D if the game loads the card and then if any problem arise, be it the card getting stucked or whatever, you loose your data, and that's something that Sega must resolve. If Sega solves this, then Initial D will be just perfect.

The dub is disgusting. They tried to make it all hip and cool like Fast and the Furious and failed.

Anyway, one the things that pulled me into Initial D orginially was the Eurobeat soundtracks too.
