Recently, a DP member named hamburgler put up a request for TG16 games. You can view that request here: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5475
I contacted him and told him that a local store had some TG16 games I could pick up for him, and asked for a complete list. He said he was also looking for Super Volleyball. I told him I could go and get it for him and it would be $10 + shipping. He said that was fine and even PMed me to ask about it. So I went and got it today and PMed him back to say I had it. This is the response I received:
"I'm not sure if i want it anymore.sorry.I'm just scared because i have never bought anything off of someone i never knew before and i'm afraid that i might get my money taken and never get package if you know what i mean.Sorry if i hurt your feelings."
Now this is AFTER I supplied my flawless 100+ eBay feedback and told him I was mentioned at least once in the "Quality Traders" thread on the Buying and Selling forum. Apparently, I'm a thief, which needless to say, makes me irate. Now I don't have a whole lot of cash, but I did this as a favor to a fellow DPer to get a game he wanted. Now I'm getting the shaft, and I told him as much so he replies to me with a statement that says that he'll "find a game" that I want, and then supplies me with links to well-known game sites and tells me that I can find anything I want at these sites (stuff like half.com and good deal games).
The long and the short of it is that I fronted up $10 for a game I didn't want at all as a favor to a DPer, then got the shaft. This is VERY uncool. This is the second time something like this has happened to me in the last couple months, as some of you may know about the strange phantom XBox that I was supposed to receive from Superfly98. I love this forum and there are a lot of great traders here, but I'm really getting tired of getting the shaft from some of them. I'm starting to wish we had some kind of trading ground rules or something (minimum age, etc) so this sort of thing didn't happen. Anyway...that's the story with hamburgler..take it as you will. If he actually does come thru with the promised payment, I will retract this, but I don't see that happening.
Please people (you know who you are) show some maturity when trading or buying from people. Don't back out of a deal after someone goes to the effort of actually going out to buy you something you asked for! That's uncool!

IF you cannot work something out, i will take it off your hands for whatever deal you made him.

I don't think that an age limit would work because I have completed all my trades or sales, have ebay feedback over 100 (87 from unique users). I am only 15! plus I have been shafted by 30 years olds!
I was going to say that an age limit is not good either. A jerk will always be a jerk, whether 15 or 35. I have completed all of my trades/sale/purchases too from various internet places, here, ebay, yahoo, and other messageboards.

True enough..but we need to figure out SOMETHING :)
I agree with you dude. Being burned twice in a short amount of time on the same board is not good at all.

I think if it's a cash-for-item transaction, a general rule of thumb, is that if you are reputable for doing favors (well not favors exactly, but ebay, other trades, etc. that you can show f/b for) Unless it's an item you have to have weighed for shipping, don't buy it until you see the money.
I am not going to "pot calling the tea kettle black" or anything, because I've done this in the past few months, and before, and I'm not calling out this situation or you, Maxlords, in general. But I think people have let a little bit of greed or what-you-will come before "trading safety" as of late. I know I took a chance with a Dreameye I bought a few months ago (only 1 ebay feedback as a bidder, new to DP) with $70, luckily I got it. And I know what it's like to be at the bad end of a deal, with which you get nothing out of.
What I guess I mean is, sometimes I think we move too fast, to think about what we may potentially get ourselves into. It's only after we hit the "send money" in the Paypal screen or drop the package off at the post office, the contemplation, fidgeting, and constant checking of the emails comes when you realize, "Did I do the right thing?"
Yes, I realize that this can happen (albeit rarely) that even senior or trusted members might suddenly turn into a bad apple and disappear off the face of the earth. Generally when the "new" members show up, is sometimes when the "greed" (or lack for a better word; blindness?) and to-good-to-be-true deals turn up and members are being screwed left and right. Wether it's this or the "alleged" S.S. accusations.
I know it's been said a ton of times before, but if the deal is too good to be true, then it probably is.
I hope that if Hamburgler doesn't step up, atleast Chunky has been very nice to help out now. And I commend you for that.

Nice guys can still do favors AND cover their asses at the same time.
And, it really doesn't look like he was doing a favor to gain anything to me, which appears to be what Achika is implying..?
Anyway, why don't you just follow what you'd use for rules if you were trading with anyone else? You could have required him to send the money first. If this was something you went out and bought, do you have a recipt and can't it be returned? Granted, we'd all like to see DP as a safe harbor for trading where you wouldn't EVER have to worry, but the reality is you still have to treat it like just about any other place you'd do business. There isn't any way to control (to a point) who trades here, except to use your own feelings on it. Do some investigating. Don't be afraid to ask other forum members if they've traded w/this person before. Check out the feedback thread on good traders that was started here. Limit who you trade with. We can't make up rules for everything.

Fair enough. I guess I'll just have to be more selective with favors and whatnot from now on. Personally, I hate sending money before someone has even gone and bought an item, so that's why I did it that way. I mean..if I'd gotten the money and then it had been gone...that would be bad. I'm just glad Chunky is interested in stepping up to the plate for it. I've had a LOT of great buying selling, and trading experiences on this board and I haven't even been here all that long, so I'm not down on the board or anything..it's just frustrating to get screwed with twice in barely a month.
I will be far more careful and selective in my dealing sfrom now on however. And I wasn't making more than a dollar or two on the game...which covered the cost of driving 30 min out of my way to get it...if I want to make markup on something...well, that's what eBay is for.

I hear ya. Personally, I have my own little system where I won't do business with anyone who is too new to the board. I know that sounds harsh, but I figure once someone has been around here a while and isn't just poping in to request something, it's probably a safe bet.
I did break this rule once with a fairly high dollar item I needed to sell ASAP and the person I sold it to came through. He seems to have fallen off the fact of the earth since then, but he was happy and I was happy.
Of course there's the other instance where someone PMed me to try to get me to sell my Panzer Dragoon Saga. He was kind of new, but he made me an offer I thought was good. After months of chasing him down over sending me the payment, he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth as well. Not too upset about that one tho. Could have really used the cash at the time, but I made it through and I still got the game. :)

.
No, it was more of a general post, hitting both this situation and the one with superfly (and any other anyone else might have). "Gaining" wasn't implied towards the Tennis part.
~thanks

These things happen, especially with youngsters and forum members we don't know very well...
BUT WHAT REALLY BUGS ME IS WHEN THAT PERSON IS ONLINE AND CHOOSES TO IGNORE THE TOPIC.
Step up, Hamburglar! Be a MAN and explain yourself. These forums are NOT for puss-weeds. TALK.

Now Bobby, just remember that a man's word is his bond. We're glad you learned your lesson, and we won't need to mention this again. Now go help Alice in the kitchen.
