You go to a video game store and purchase a new game and they give you one with price stickers and crap like that all over it...It just pisses me off when you buy the last new copy of a game and you have to take the case they have on the shelf with the price tags on it....they should at least rewrap the case up so they can put the tags on the wrap instead of the game case itself..

I hate it when you buy a used game at eb and you get a yellow sticker onthe front and rear of the case and on book plus a big white seal sticker (wanna be a return void sticker).
I hate it when they charge you a $1:50 fee for a scracth disk yet turn around and sell it for the full used price.

Notice how EBgames puts the stikers on the front of the PSone and Dreamcast games... do they not know how easy it is to open the CD case from the other side? VERY RARELY have I seen and EB employee but stickers on the SIDES where they would do the most good.
Doesn't work so good on DVD games (if at all?) so I guess it doesn't really matter, but it's still silly.

Why oh why? Why doest thou (Ebgames, Gamestop, Etc.) suggest that an opened copy put on display or a resealed copy of a game is "New"? No my friend. Once it is opened, it has been brought into the world of icky sticky touchy-feely hands with the scratching and the froin-laven; and is no longer "New". How can any sane company get away with this? Because they have done it a million times before? So very sad. Please sell display copies/resealed copies as used priced or less...considering how many people have slobbered over them. Thats all we ask. *knock knock?!?!?
EDIT: In realizing my folly of trying to change something like this...I have opted to post a picture of a flying squirrel to meditate on things happy. Is a flying squirrel really a squirrel, or some sort of rodent?

Maybe they should just tag their shelves like Wal-mart does....or maybe they should just label sections (like everything here is $49.99 or something) :D

but then ppl will grab something from the $49.99 rack...say they got it from the $4.99 rack and bitch and moan and try to get their way saying that it was on the $4.99 rack, so it should be that price

All squirrels are rodents. They are Rats with good PR. I often took advantage of the DC sticker trick, open the case up backwards, realize the disk is scratched to hell and then return it for a full refund. The Opened/New thing at EB is always an ongoing discussion, really there is no better way of doing it. Especially if the consumer wants to look at the case/game. Tagging shelves would work, but games always get put back in the wrong spot so you would get people saying "The tag under this games said 9.99 and that's the price I want to pay"

I worked at EB for a while, and I always hated having to gut the games and put the boxes on the shelf. If you ask me, it's not "new" anymore when you do that.
These days I simply refuse to buy anything that's a display copy. Screw that. I like my new games new, thank you very much.

I usually take the stickers off best I can, then set a blow dryer to them to get off any that I couldn't peel off myself.

So True...I remember when Mission Impossible came out for n64...I bought it from EBGames, got home, opened it..
...The instructions were all krinkled up, and the game already had games saved on it!!!1, I took it back no more than an hour later, an dhad to argue with the people working for 15 minutes that I, in fact, did not do that to the game. *sigh*

Oh Why Oh Why are there such crazy people out there who think that video games are some kind of religious relics that once touched by mere mortals it loses all value.
We had this discussion in another thread so I'll just basically say the same thing again. It is New rather than Used, no one traded it in, it comes from the company that makes it. That is what New means in retail. Once again the example of clothing in stores is so on point, people walk by touch it and even try it on in the store, so should all those stores in the Mall reduce the price of their clothes? No. I'll tell you what I'd would rather pay the new price for a game that sits in a sleeve or whatever behind a counter rather than a shirt some nasty sweaty dude tried on. And please dont say they could just display them secured behind glass because every single person will want that game in their hand anyways to look at, and that snotty kid will still touch it.
Although I do agree that all those stickers are annoying, there is some stores that reshrink wrap the last copy and put the price labels on there but it takes soo much more time its not cost effective.
Sorry, Stores are there to make money and Video Games are not that special

I only hate stickers that leave residue. If it comes off cleanly, fine by me. Otherwise, AAAAAAAAARRRGGGH.
And then, GOO GONE. :)

those stupid EBgames stickers' residue comes right off with a little bit of denatured alcohol on a Q-tip. denatured is more powerful than isopropyl, it works like a charm. i de-gooed all of my old used games just recently. anyways, yes, i do hate them, especially when the sticker is right on top of that hole in the DVD case where the clip to hold the manual is, so by scraping it you form a big dent in the clear plastic and the insert. not the end of the world but still really irritating.

I used to hate it with N64 and GameBoy games, so that's basically when I started to buy factory sealed ones. That then means that any stickers they want to put on them don't affect the actual game case / box, and can usually be easially peeled off.
Those stickers they put on are also so huge too. Whty do they need to be so big? What is wrong with those normal price gun stickers that your local corner shop uses???
And the adhesive on them is so strong, if you try to peel one off of a PS2 / Xbox / Cube game, it just leaves a horrible mound (Usually a round one if the sticker is round) where the adhesive has semi-bonded with the case cover plastic...

if they try and pull that crap and hand me a display copy, i straight out tell them that i dont want it. to me those display copys are the same as used, they should mark those displays down to a used price, why? because someone has already touched it and to me thats considered used. the whole point of buying a new game is being the first person to touch it and smelling the new fresh smell and without their ugly stickers.

your logic is very ignorant - comparing games to clothes? the whole concept of a factory sealed game(ie. clothes arnt sealed) is that its sealed until bought. if i walked into gamestop, purchased a sealed game, tore it open right in front of their faces and tryed to return it, what do you think theyll say? "Sorry sir, its opened(used) and you cant take that back, but youre more then welcome to trade it in" If they are going to do that to a customer , they should follow their own rules and at least sell it at a discounted price. many places do this with other merchandise, including my work, if we get down to a display, i offer the customer it and extra 10%.

They're the ones selling it, though! If they don't have a brand-new one to sell, why should they discount? Again, that'd be like asking a store to give you a new shirt or pair of pants because you can prove somebody took it to the dressing room. Sure, the wear/difference is more notable, but if they think they can get away with it, why not? If stores had a "discount returns" policy they would lose TONS of money on it. If you really care...ask for new ones, as Gemini Rises-from-ashes says.

Yeah, I hate it too! But, I'm pretty good at getting them off and for the Xbox, I keep a few spare DVD cases to just switch over to when the stickers leave too much mess behind.

Hell yeah,it mega pisses me off, mostly i collect NES games and i just hate it when they sticker it.
Some are easy to remove but some tear the hell outta the box,it\'s a shame they just stick it on without thinking.
I had severals were they just put the sticker in the middle of the front side, over the name of the game in the title,u name it,they put them eveywhere, morons!

but its not that we would want the game given to us...just at the discounted used price because it has already been exposed to air, fingerprints, scratches, etc.
charging something like $44.99 for an opened "new" game would make sense...its not that much off, but it is a little compensation for the possible abuse the case and disc has seen

I guess that's the difference between us gamers and collectors.
I can see why a collector would want a sealed copy of the game either for their collection or so they can open it themselves.
The gamers like me could care less. All a 'opened' new copy means is I hand the box to the clerk, he finds the games in a protected case in the drawer, puts them back into the box, and hands it to me. It's still 'new' because no one has played it and the CD's are protected.
Just remember stores are not set up to sell to collectors -- they sell to GAMERS. And like others have said, I don't see a better way of doing this. You get the original box to look at (both front and back, even the manual!) without danger of it being stolen and losing money.
Besides, have'nt we allready done this like seven times? The thread was about the used stickers that EB used to use on USED games. And I'll say it again -- mine stopped using the yellow ones over a year ago and switched to clear.

If I'm buying a game for my sealed collection I lOVE having it covered with price stickers, especially if they have the name of the place i got them. As for EBgames stickers on used games and such I used to mess with them, but now I leave them on for two reasons.
1) I know how much I paid for it when I look at it and
2) Removing the stickers could damage the case.

At first I didn't like how the games at our EB are opened already and sold as new, but by now I don't care anymore.
The stickers go off very easily though, I didn't have any problems yet (even on the cardboard boxes like Unlimited Saga).
And concerning scratched discs, at our store they remove all the discs from the cases, so when you go up to the counter, they get the disc from a drawer and show it to you (if it's a used game), so you can decide if it's ok or not (plus you can return it within one or two weeks anyway I think).

Blockbuster rentals are by far the worse. Sticker with barcode on front, price sticker on front, preowned sticker on front, barcode on back (sometimes x2 or x3), barcode on the inside of the DVD case, and to top it all off one of those shitty disc shield stickers to !#@$ up your disk. "10 stickers on your game....BRILLIANT!

Hehe yeah BB games are (or used) to be pretty bad. I have a copy of Dino Crisis 2 i got there ages ago just completely covered with them. I hate those disc ones so much. The good news is that I haven't seen them put a sticker on the game CDs since the PS2 came out.
