Well since my 5.1 reciever went funny on me I was "forced" to upgrade. So I went with a Sony STDR-698 7.1 reciever.
So I was wondering if anyone knows of any games that make really good use of Pro Logic IIx and 7.1 matrixing.
I know Anthony1 had a topic on this a while back, but my searched turned up nothing.
Also, there will be a thread in B&S pretty soon for my old reciever :)

I'd like to know this too.
I just scored a highly ridiculous (normally $1000+) Marantz SR7500 Reciever for $200, and it does 7.1 and IIx as well.
I wish more movies used SDDS, it pwnz 7.1

As far as I know, there are no games that optimize 7.1 only the 5.1 (standard) yet. Dolby Pro Logic II and Dolby digital 5.1 are supported but none of the new formats yet.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike on GameCube is the only game I know of that makes use of Pro Logic IIx.

I didn't mean games that make use of the format, I just meant games that sound really good with a 7.1 set up.
For instance, Gladiator isn't 7.1, but it sounds awesome with 7 speakers compared to a movie like The Usuals Suspects which doesn't really utilize sourround sound that well.
I already found one game that rocks with 7.1, DOOM 3 on Xbox.

I that case, basically any game that supports 5.1 well will sound good w/ 7.1 as well.

Correct me if im wrong (which im sure someone will be sure to do) 7.1 isnt a true standard meaning its not 7 seperate channels. The rear 4 channels are really two channels matrixed.

I may also be wrong but I think it works like this. A 7.1 reciever isn't true 7.1 right now because there is nothing currently encoded in 7 channels, but it has the potential to be 7 seperate sources.
Just like in 5.1 pro logic where the two rear channels are the same signal, but in 5.1 digital they are seperate.
So right now the surround back speakers (as they are called in a 7.1 set up) are the same signal, but that will change when we start to see DVDs encoded for 7.1, which will probably be a while down the road since even 6.1 is fairly new.

Well i could see that but 7.1 came out only a short time after 6.1. Plus with companys like sony making the hardware that produces 7.1 and owning the movie studios relasing moves, you'd think that they'd supporting the capabilities of the hardware they are trying to push by encoding movies with 7.1. I just see it as a marketing ploy like 6min abs are better that 7min abs!
