View Full Version : Some good N64 games with length
Okay, I just recently got back into my 64 with a buy of Wipeout 64 and F-Zero X. I really want to sit down with a N64 game and just play for hours on end instead of a few quick laps around a track(since I really have no N64 games except those), but I could use some help on getting some games with a overall lengh of 25 + hours
I am open to all types of games..FPS, RPG, Adventure, etc.
Edit: Be sure to exclude: SMB64, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye :)

Both of the N64's Goemon titles are good alternatives to Zelda and Mario 64 if you already played them. Maybe you sould give them a try. You may also want to track down a copy of Banjo kazooie and its sequel Banjo Tooie, or Paper Mario if you're looking for a RPG.

MegaMan 64 is long too if you can handle the repetitive play style...
Aidyn Chronicles? Shadowgate 64? I have never played either...

Go for "Paper Mario"! To me, It's better then even "Final Fantasy 7"! "Banjo-Tooie" is also long and good

I recommend Perfect Dark, also. The multiplayer with sims is pretty sweet too. But only if you have the expansion pack.

I am going to see if I can find a expansion pack on Saturday, on that line, Does Conker's Bad Fur Day require a exp. pack?
Thanks for all the games people, this is really helping me :D

No, conker's DOESN'T require an expansion pak.
On that note, I have always wondered if games that DON'T use the pak, look better when the expansion pack is in. Or does it just do nothing.

Mystical Ninja featuring Goemon is a good 3D adventure game, although nowhere near as long as OoT.
Blast Corps is very unique, and it'll take you a while to go through and unlock all the levels. But it's also a very love-it-or-hate-it sort of game (I love it, obviously).

I have an expansion pack and got it back in the N64 days. Does it make graphics look better? No. But, I do have three games that support it. Rouge Squadron, Majora's Mask, and Perfect Dark. It basically allows more things to be on the screen at one time. I remember noticing more ships to fight in Rouge Squadron after getting the expansion pack.

If you're keen on unlockables try Mario Golf. You can spend quite a bit of time with that one trying to get all the different playable characters.

Paper Mario. I've just started playing it (6 hours in), but its already my favorite N64 game ever. Both Banjo's would fit your discription (I like Kazooie better).

As far as pure length goes, nothing really beats Ogre Battle 64. It's a great game too, so it's well worth the time it takes to complete. :)

It's spelled ROGUE. Rouge is a piece of makeup. Sorry, but that's a pet peeve.
At any rate, in Rogue Squadron is sharpens the graphics, ups the AI, and, if I remember, it does have more ships allowed.

Perfect Dark, Pokemon Snap, Wave Race 64, PilotWings 64, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Doom 64 and Diddy Kong Racing.
Pokemon Snap? are you joking? that was probably the shortest game ive ever played, beat it in one short sitting.
He also said he didnt want games that involve just going round a track....Wave Race is just that, doesnt even have that many tracks either...
So you want long games, huh? The N64 had a ton of them.
Try these;
Shadow Man.....creepy as hell and the best version of all of the consoles.
Aidyn Chronicles.....a great RPG in a massive world. Sticking it out until you get your party is the tough part because it starts out painfully slow.
Anything by Rare. Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, DK.
Both Zelda games. Indiana Jones (hard to find). Nightmare Creatures. Paper Mario. Quest 64. Rayman 2. Super Mario 64. Turoks. Gauntlet Legends. Quakes, Doom and Hexen. Hybrid Heaven. Res Evil 2 (best console version). I could go on and on.
Want a LONG racing game? World Driver Championship. It ISN'T short by any means. The tracks are big, too.

Ogre Battle 64 was an excellent addition to the series, and probably a 30 hour game. Both the Zelda games were excellent, as was Mario 64.
Unfortunately, the N64 didn't have very many good games in my opinion, but the good ones were really good.

Orge Battle 64 and paper mario are both fairly long. There are so many crappy games on the system that could take you a long time because they suck so bad, like Superman. That game could provide hours of frustration. :) Seriously if you havent played paper mario, pick it up, its one of the better games for the system. :D

I'd agree with Blast Corps and Gauntlet Legends. In particular, Gauntlet Legends is better on the N64 than on the Dreamcast, in my opinion.

Pokemon snap I would say is not long and the replay value I would question as well, once you have the pictures of all the different pokemon what more is there to do. I did like the game, but I cant think of picking it back up.

I second THAT emotion. Jet Force Gemini is one long-ass game that will take a lot of time to finish. A really long time. More than Conkers on Banjo or even Donkey Kong. But it can be repetitive. One magazine said it could have been split up into several games.
Turok 2 is a long-ass game, too, especially with so few save points.

I recommend Mischief Makers. It's an awesome 2D platformer, and it's certainly not short. It took me a loooooong time to finish that game.
Alright from what I am hearing, these games are good and long, right?
Banjo Kazooie 1,2
Blast Corps
Bomberman 64
Ogre Battle 64
Gauntlet Legends (I am a big Gauntlet fan :) )
Paper Mario
Perfect Dark
ExciteBike 64
Doom 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Shadow Man
Aidyn Chronicles
Conker's Bad Fur Day (Just bought it from Scooterb)
Majora's Mask
Hexen
Resident Evil 2
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Winback
Goemon
Jet Force Jemini
Could someone tell me the lengh of these games? (Hours)

i kinda figured it was a love for Pkemon that made you say it..so i forgive you...Pokemon is sweet :)...
Conkers Bad Fur Day is only about 10-15 hours at MOST....but its such a great game, who cares if its long?
Aidyn Chronicles took me over 50 hours, but I'm a "completist RPGer". Shadowman would give you around 30 hours if you take time to explore, absorb and enjoy the story. When I call it a long game.....I mean immense. No two people will arrive at the ending the same way. Mississippi Delta Voodoo at it's creepiest. THE most mature game that the N64 ever saw. Go get it.

I forgot about this one... yeah, this was a pretty out-there game with some very mature themes and a truly creepy vibe.
The graphics are darned impressive, too... have you compared them to the PSX verion? It's FAR superior. I guess the PSX just wasn't up to the task of pushing out the type of graphics that Shadowman required. Come to think of it, the N64, unlamented though it may be, was better at complex 3-D worlds than the PSX. Compare Rayman 2, Shadowman, or that FPS that was remeniscent of Stormship Troopers (forgot the name.) The N64 game was based on the Turok 2 engine, and that was one piece of work from a graphical standpoint. It has some serious slowdown in many, MANY places, but man that's a good-looking N64 game.
Turok 3 is also a good N64 game with some length. Not as frustrating as Turok 2, either, and it doesn't have nearly the graphical issues of the part 2, but it's not as pretty. I think Turok 2 is one of the best-looking N64 games ever.
Superman 64 is long, too, if nothing else but for the fact that the game is blatently unfair and will cheat.

The expansion pack is suposed to improve graphics on some games, the ones that use it, along with a few other things, but the biggest thing that it does after the graphics is it does allow the system to process more and allow things like more polygon figures, such as more ships in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. A good example of this is when me and a bud were messing around on his N64 with my copy of Donkey Kong 64 which is suposed to require the expansion pack. The game actualy started running, but you could see a decrease in graphical quality and many things did not show up or did not show up properly, the enemies wouldn't even show on the screen w/o the pack so we were being attacked by air!
But with games that do not use the expansion pack, the pack will do nothing!
