View Full Version : Looking back, how is Luigi's Mansion?

Just like my poll about Sonic Adventure, I'm playing through Luigi's Mansion right now and am hoping to beat it within the next couple days. It has an interesting place in history, as the GameCube game launched without a true Mario game but instead with Luigi's Mansion, which has almost nothing in common with any of the platforming Mario games.

So... Was Luigi's Mansion a good replacement? Cheap, quick game to try to move consoles? Great expansion of the Mario franchise? And... do you want another?

Your poll is still listed as Sonic instead of Luigi's Mansion. It was an okay game, actually pretty fun. In the aspect of release for the gamecube it should not have been a launch title, there should have been a TRUE mario game.

Aw geez... And to think that I somehow didn't catch that when I was changing the options...

Mods? If you could please change that to the proper game title? Thanks :)

I honestly thought it was great then (even in its shortness and imperfections), and that it still is. Not the best game on the system, or even the best launch title, but it was still a really good and fun addition to the lineup.

I liked Luigi's Mansion. However, the final boss is really really tough, especially comapared to the realitively low level of difficulty in the rest of the game.

I totally agree with pacmanhat...

Never played it. Perhaps I should get it. To save face... and all that.

I love Luigi's Mansion. It's cool to have Luigi be the star instead of Mario for a change, plus it's not the "typical" Mario game. It's worth at least a rent if not a buy...it's less than $20 at most stores.

Every time I go into best buy I see Luigi's mansion for 20 bones...

Should I pick it up or is it noth worth the twenty spot that could be going towards something else...?

I picked it up at Best Buy during a recent 2 Player's Choice games for $25.00 sale. For that price, it was worth it to me. I think I would've been happy even if it was $20.00.

The game is short as heck though. I heard it was, so I checked out an FAQ on it today to see how far through it I was, and it looks like I'm about two thirds of the way, and I've probably only played for about five hours.

I got it a while ago, years ago actually. I didn't get it at launch as I was very disappointed that it was "the Mario game" they launched the Cube with (As well as Smash Bros) and was mad there wasn't a real Mario platformer.

But later on I gave in and got it.

I enjoyed it a lot actually. It was different, and as long as you don't go in expecting the next big Mario game, it's great. I had a lot of fun. Some of the music was awesome. The bosses were challenging. It was just plain fun.

The graphics were really great as well. Especially the lighting effects and the way the vacuum would suck up cloth.

I picked up Luigi's Mansion during the GameCube launch and it was fun to play through and was something different - also a nice break in between Super Monkey Ball and Rogue Leader. I haven't played it since simply because there are too many other games I need to complete.

In the aspect of release for the gamecube it should not have been a launch title, there should have been a TRUE mario game.

...too bad when that Mario game finally did come out it was plagued with poor collision detection and a terrible camera.

It was probably my favorite gamecube launch games. I really loved the gameplay mechanics of figuring out how to capture the ghosts, it truly was innovative. The graphics showcased the gamecubes capabilities very well. While on the short side, I am not one to complain about game length with ICO being my favorite game ever. While I would have liked the ghosts to be a bit more challenging in the sense of figuring out how to find them, it truly was a great gameplay experience, and would rank somewhere in my top 30 games of all time.

I really liked it and it was the only game I got with my Cube on launch day. I would love a sequal and as I really enjoyed this game I voted good not great because it really wasn't great but it was good and I would like another. I hope Nintendo does a fallow up game to this title. In some ways I enjoyed this better than Mario Sunshine.

The first game I played on my Cube! I got my Cube and LM at midnight and I stayed up until about 2 am playing the game before finally falling asleep.
I enjoyed it. True, it could've been longer, and implemented a few more puzzles into the formual, but as it is, it's a fun game. I just remember how good everything was animated and the lighting effects were excellent, and it still is impressive today. To be honest, I always considered it Nintendo's parody of the Resident Evil franchise (finding keys, cut scenes of Luigi opening doors).

I found it as a great response by Nintendo against all of the gamers who complained about the lack of Luigi in Super Mario 64. It was and still is a fun game, short or not.

I always enjoy some Ghostbustin'. The game is Very good. Always a fun game to play. And since i like Luigi, it makes the game better.

And, catch all of the Boos. It'll be worth it to listen to all their remarks. They say their name, then make a remark. (Most of the time)

:)

I rate the game 91 out of 100.

Luigi's Mansion is an ok game. I don't like it as much as Super Mario Sunshine (which also isn't great), but it was ok for the short amount of time that it lasts. It was one of the first cube games I played, along with Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Star Wars Rogue Squadron II. All of those are better games IMO.

I thought Luigi's Mansion was a nice game. Fun, not too long (I'm not a gamer that enjoys really long games)...I wish it were a bit longer, but I wasn't too displeased. The only real issue I had with that game was that once I finished it...I never really felt like playing again, and eventually I know I sold it off.

I find that a lot with newer games...once I've finished it, I never get the urge to go back through and do it all over again.

Luigi's Mansion was the frist game i got afther the, GC had it's launch.

'Short and simple' to play if any thing the game was made. To show off what the, GC could do nothing more.

It was and still is a great game. It was a good launch title. A little too short but still entertaining. I actually played this game this weekend.

Well......seeing Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin in action on the new Cube was an incredible treat.

Luigi's Mansion featured incredible lighting effects and trickery such as reflection, smoke and the table cloth into the vacuum cleaner. A person who just throws a game in to "beat it" would never appreciate the intricacies of Luigi's Mansion. You have to take your time and absorb the magic that was placed into the game.

Pikmin looked about as photorealistic as I've ever seen a game be. I must "pik" that game up LOL

I think Lugi's Mansion is a great game. Yes, short, too short, but very cool in alot of ways....cool effects and environment, cool gameplay "wrestling" the ghosts...I'd be interested in a sequel, so long as nintendo takes note of the main complaints of the first one.

Definitely a good launch title.

Was a great launch title, really showed off what the GameCube could really do at that time.

Now looking back, it's literally is a Ghost to the average person who just recently bought a GameCube so they could play RE4 :(
