You know, all these years saying "I'm gonna learn this game" has yielded nothing to date. Sure, I can Google this and probably find a decent site that explains it simply, but I figure there are enough intelligent folk here to do the job better.

So there are two players and there are tiles given to each player when the game starts. That's as much as I know about the game. Teach me the rest!

Hidden motive: seeing naked chicks.

Thanks!

Hidden motive: seeing naked chicks.
Woohoo! The best of reasons (as long as it's not Perestroika Girls again, though! o_O). Well, I'm probably about where you are. My problem with playing what's on MAME is that...the controller for the things are extremely complicated.

I've played a couple western single-player Mahjong games for Windows that use the mouse to drag tiles about and match them up - now that's more like it! I've found this to be a relaxing/somewhat cerebral style of game, like say Solitare. As far as the other kind that forces you to buy another controller for your Neo Geo...I really just don't understand it yet, but that's because the difficulty has scared me off thus far.

I know you want us to teach you, but here is a great site to give you the basics.

http://home.netvigator.com/~tarot/Mahjong/Mahjong.html

I know it's been discussed here (DP) before so I'll search it out.

I am terrible at explaining things, but I picked it up pretty easy so you should too.

That was my motive too.. but instead I just used the Mame cheat function :D

It's generally all standard and the cheat is to "always have a winning hand" then keep pressing Z. If it doesn't allow you to press Z, press the other letter keys until you can. I think you have to have like 14 tiles in your hand before you can hit the z... but that doesn't take more than 2 or 3 keystrokes. And voila! Instant n3kk3dn3ss.

However, to be quite honest... I too would someday like to learn how to play that competetive mahjong. Really. :hmm:

Yeah, I mean, I like the "Shanghai" style Mahjong - if the head-to-head game is even nearly as much fun, it would be worth learning. Even without the naked chicks.

What you want to do is get sets of three or four of one tile or groups of three or four in order, along with one set of two tiles. I still don't fully understand why sometimes I have a winning hand but can't win.

You also score more by not putting them down ie Pon, Chi or Kong. This is safe since the other player can not take your tiles unless you discard them.

I once had a dummy and named him Jake. For many years he was my only friend. I couldn't teach him Mahjong because he had no actual brain capacity. He was one heck of a Bridge player though, that's the funny thing ! Recently I used Jake's legs to prop up a old shelving unit, so he doesn't play much Bridge these days.

THe SNES had a Shanghai: Dragon's Eye that had a very cool two player version (i.e. a dragon's eye shaped play field.). Never seen that variation again, pity too as I really enjoyed it.

Here's what this household used to sorta-learn. Plus is specifially written by a guy who played it to see naked chicks so there ya go.

Last mahjong games I played was Shangai: Great Moments back in the day on Win 3.1 and 95. I should learn to play more myself. Thanks for the links.

I may have to ask my brother how to play. He's beaten Super Real Mahjong PII through VII. I still don't get it, though!

Isn't that the same thing as Dominos? Couldn't we get girls naked with that? Hell, I remember domino games in old Dr Dre videos - that's gotta make it legit.

So, ladies - ahem - I'll grab my dominos and you can take it from there.

These pages showed me how to play. In essence, it's just like Gin Rummy, you just have to learn how it all works.

Plus, there's sets of tiles that aren't the "Number of Suit" style tiles. Like the four winds, and blank tiles. You just have to match them up in threes or fours, similarly.

I have the hentai Mahjong title on the NGPC, and after a while even with the nekkedness you get addicted to the real game.

But the hentai boobs are a plus, admittedly.

So that's what the kids are calling "it" these days :)
