I noticed that this game came out yesterday. Since GTA got pushed back until July, I'm looking for something new to pick up, and I'm kind of getting tired of waiting for MVP (maybe I'll just skip it). Did anyone pick this game up? If so, do you have any initial thoughts on it?

I picked mine up a couple months ago (import) and find that the game is very addictive. I don't know if they "americanized" this one though (like they do with every other Hot shots game on the ps2). I love this game, yet I don't even care for golf LOL . Did you have any specific questions about it?

Well I really enjoyed the fiirst Hot Sots Golf for the PS1, but I never played any of the subsequent installments in the series. I'm not really up on any channges they may have made to the game over the course of the sequels that came out. Assuming that you played the first game, how similar is it to that?

This is my first Hot shots game. This game takes quite a while to fully complete. You have a putting chalange and 9 rounds of golf to win a particular item that you can 'equip'. In some of them, you face off against another person (cpu). You have the traditional bar system, where you have to time it just right (similar to mario golf). Its an extremely fun game to play. You will constantly want to improve your game by trying for eagles and hole-in-one's.

Is it possible to play a 2-player game on one system? This would be perfect for some road trips I have coming up.

i have picked up every Hot Shots game this far and spent quite some time with each installment except Fore. Hopefully this one will so up at the store tomorrow so i can get some portable Hot Shots action in.
Is the import version difficult at all to figure out, or are the icons fairly easy to comprehend?

At the most it will take 15 minutes to figure out what the menus mean (their color coded so it makes it even easier). Its very import-friendly.

I have never plasyed a hot shots game, and I do not like golf. What makes these games so appealing?

I have all the Hot Shots series, and this is as good as golf gets on the go. I prefer this "old style" 3-click swing to the analog swing found in newer golf games because, frankly, it is a lot more challenging, and as such truer to actual golf. I just blow through Tiger Woods 2005, scoring ridiculously low scores. Hot Shots combines skill and fun in an almost perfect ratio, which is what I think makes this series so appealing. I like the cartoony style as well, but some prefer golf to be more "serious." I would really like it if golf games somehow incorporated both control options. Anyways, it is a great game to pick up in my opinion.

i picked my copy up today and am now charging up the PSP so i can take it for a spin tonight if this party gets lame.
i think what makes Hot Shots so appealing is the same thing that works for all classic games. It is incredibly simple to understand and know what you are supposed to do, it takes skill to accomplish what you want to do and you rarely feel cheated by the game

what if you are someone like me who does not like golf games? Maybe it will be like mario tennis. I do not like tennis but mario tennis is one great game.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, it's the same game. Mario Golf is just Hot Shots with the Nintendo characters added in.
I can't remember which game in the series it was, but I saw one Hot Shots that allowed players to heckle one another between shots. You could press buttons to make conspicuous coughing noises and the like (even pulling down the "quiet" signs). The game wouldn't let you actually interrupt during the shots, which is too bad, because I think it would be really funny. Videogame golf is so standardized that almost anything to break the mold would be welcome.

For non-golf fans, you'll probably enjoy the leveling up aspects. Golf fans will appreciate the fact that the damn thing doesn't load for 30 seconds after each swing (Tiger Woods).
It's weird because Tiger is probably a better golf game, but it's unplayable because of the load times. It's not that Hot Shots isn't fun; it's a blast. It just never matched what EA has done with Tiger. I'd still recommeded Hot Shots on the PSP. Easy to play quickly, great graphics, and enough to do to keep you busy.
My only complaint so far is that there should be more characters available from the start. If you're going to spend hours leveling up a character, you should have bigger choice than just a guy and a girl.
