You know... I wonder what happens when you have four months left on your old EGM subscription and then you fill out this sort of thing. Do you get two magazines for four months, then the free one?

Also, do they treat the free subscriptions are importantly as they do the regular ones? I got the free Gamepro deal (double shudder) and I only get one out of every three issues (or so.)

I always alter my name to something similar to my real name, but different enough so I can track the amount of crap mail I get based on who spells my name wrong.

Anywho, I signed up for it. Thanks for the link! I'm all for free magazines, even if they come sporatically.

Yeah, more free EGM. I signed up even though they are wrong most of the time. I could go for a free tips and tricks though, so I can get joe's articles.

Plus, you get free OPSM demo discs every month, and that is well worth filling this form out for.

OPSM is usually only a 6 month subscription though, regardless of what it says (unlike the 12 for EGM), so you have to fill these out when you can.

Very cool. I saw that new Zelda EGM issue when a buddy picked it up, and I was surprised to see that the state of the magazine was better than I expected it to be these days. I'll definitely sign up for it and PSM.

I take it Computer Gaming World is solely about PC games? I got virtually no interest in PC games, so I'll probably pass on that one. I don't want to clutter up my room with a magazine I don't particularly want. :P

Actually, I did a quick google on free subscriptions and these kind of links seem to pop up quite often for a whole range of magazines. Can anyone explain what the deal is? This can't be the norm, can it?

The more subscribers they have they more they can charge for advertisement. Since subscribers give them set circulation numbers (unlike newstand copies that sales fluctuate) they are very valuable. That's why you've been seeing all these offers, they're making more money by giving away free magazines. I hope I've explained this well enough.

US magazine postage costs are very low compared to the UK, advertising % is much heavier, and subscription is much more important (vs. newsstand) than in the UK. I know I'm always amazed when I see what UK subs cost - "Get 12 for the price of 10 issues!" It's rare to pay more than $1-2 US/issue on a US subscription, unless it's a true specialty sub (Foreign Affairs, Economist, FEER, that kind of thing).

A year ago, I probably would've jumped on these. But now, I'm tiring of most gaming mags so I will pass on these but perhaps I'll go google and see if I can find some free subs to other genre magazines. My EGM subscription lasts until next year anyway :)

I also signed up on the 5th. Then on the 25th I got a confirmation email from each magazine asking that I enter the name of the game I registered.

I had to go back and find this thread to get the links that the games were for. Hopefully I'll have something here soon. :)

You know I've been thinking that with all the damn things that I sign up for, I should go get a Post Office box, and use a fake name and get a special email that is just for this crap.

Only thing is, to get a post office box, I believe they require a drivers license or some crap. I wonder if there is any way around that?

I would love to have a totally fake name, with a Post Office box, and a special email just for spam. Although I would imagine that some of these places don't allow post office boxes.

But think about it..... You could sign up for basically anything under the sun and not even worry about it. You could have subscriptions to like 40 different magazines for free!!

i did one of these free EGM subscriptions and they can take MONTHS for them to actually start getting sent to you, so anyone who is wondering why they havnt recieved one yet, it can take many months, if i remember correctly it took me like 6 months for them to start sending some.

yes just to let you folks know It can take a few months to recieve the mags. The first time I registered I never got any emails. The second time I did get the emails , either way Im still recieving the mags .

I was getting tips and tricks for free for a while and I also still get game pro for free.

In case you guys don't already know about Mailinator, here is a little lesson. Next time you are asked for an email address, but you don't want to get spammed _and_ that email address will not have privacy critical data sent to it, then just give it an email address of the form: "firstname.lastname@mailinator.com". Actually, you can use whatever email ID you want, as long as it ends in "@mailinator.com". If any mail is sent to that address, then the account is automatically created and the mail is automatically kept for a few days. No passwords, no account creation step.

So there is no need for spending time to create new email addresses. Also, if you are going to have privacy critical email sent to a Mailinator account, then you will want to use an ID that is hard to guess. You can even bookmark your mail folder so that you don't have to worry about remembering cryptic mail IDs. Take the mail account "john" for example:
http://www.mailinator.com/mailinator/CheckMail.do?email=john

Note that anybody can read it. So it is better to use the randomly generated mail ID that you are automatically presented with on the front page of the site. Use the "Here" link right below it to go to the mailbox in a way that lets you bookmark the mailbox.

If you use your own name, and still want to bookmark the box, change the ID at the end of the above URL from "john" to whatever you want to use.

Oh yeah and Mailinator is free.

Major bump...Did anyone ever receieve their subs to EGM through the Crash Bandicoot promo? Today I checked my mailbox and there was an issue of EGM in it...Which I'm guessing came from that link since I never ordered it in any other way...

So has anyone ever receieved their subs from it?
