Been on the phone for the past few hours trying to track down a cab. No one wants to sell to me bc im part of the "general public".

i fail to see how my money is different to anyone owning a business. Unfortunately, this only leaves me one company that will sell to me, and I wasnt happy with them from my last transaction.

I can understand that they may not wanna waste their time with someone who may only pick up one game, but I am in need of a few cabs as well as some full working games and I fail to see why I cant be sold to. :(

I wanted to rant more, but Ive lost most train of thought

Where are you located?

Richmond, VA

There only seem to be 11 arcade vendors in my area and the surrounding cities and only 1 sell to the public and like I said, i dont care for them.

Think about PMing RichD who happens to work for an amusement company in Virginia Beach, VA. He may know of one that you could get reasonably.

Found a vendor that would actually sell one to me for teh loviey price of $300, that includes a 19" with screen burn, p/s, and harness.

anyways, i politely declined, fail to see how a half empty cab goes for what one with a game could go for :D

Have you posted on RGVAC with what you're looking for?

Reason being is they don't want to get a "my game is broke" call. I realize you just want to buy a cab - my advice is to ask them in person (later in the week) and only deal with the owner.

still doesnt explain why i cant get a corpse

LOL
But - as stonic posted, if you can just go to the vendor's shop (preferably with a truck or some other means of immediately transporting stuff away) and deal directly with the owner, you're much more likely to get something. Especially if you have cash in hand and are likely to take at least a couple of cabinets off the guy's hands. :)

In person, "Hi, I have a truck and cash and would like to take a few of your broken games off your hands right now..." goes a LOT farther than a phone call. ;)

I have had similar encounters with local vendors. I called one up because he was selling an arcade game that I was not really interested in(way expensive), so I asked him if he had any other games for sale. He told me he had a whole warehouse full, so I was like awesome..., I asked him when can I come take a look? He replied with... "You better bring alot of money, because I ain't giving them away for free"...I never called him back after that remark. Sounded like a guy who would try to sell a non-working, water-damaged,cockroach infested, game for $3,000...I guess he thought I was some kid who would only offer him 50 bucks for a game...That's too bad because I was planning to bring $1,200 with me, his loss...

P.S.
I'm looking for arcade games in the Central Texas area...

Actually, it sounds like a guy who's received your call 1500x and is sick of people wasting his time by asking for a warehouse tour and then not buying anything. His business isn't selling to the public. It's like asking your regular garbage collector to come on an offday to pick up half a bag of trash.

Nope,

It was the first and last call...He was advertising his games in the PUBLIC paper...

Not 1500x from YOU, 1500x in general.

I understand...I can imagine all the calls they get from people wanting to kick their tires until the wheels fall off and buy mint Pac-Man's for 50 bucks. But hey, would you buy a car without kicking the tires first? I just didn't like how he automatically put me into that catergory of people who didn't have any money and just wanted to browse, thats not the case with me.

That's great, but you're not his target customer. Become a target customer if you want his attention.

That's not an apt analogy. Car dealers are pretty much BEGGING for people to buy their wares. Arcade game vendors aren't, advert in the newspaper or not. Ever. They don't care if their stuff sits in their warehouses forever. But you do. :)

And yet, you should know better - that's how it will always be when dealing with a vendor unless you happen to get very, very, VERY lucky.

He's not putting you into the category of people who just want to browse. He's putting you in the category of "not serious buyers."

If you're serious about buying games from any vendor, take whatever jabs and barbs they might give you on the phone in stride. The phone call is NOT the place to deal. The phone call is to set up a time to go down to the guy's warehouse with plenty of cash, a truck, and probably a buddy to help you move the game(s).

I didn't mean to ruffle anyones feathers. All I am saying is I haven't had much luck finding the right vendor(s) to do business with. Let's leave it at that, just my opinion so don't get mad.

what about ebay -- there are sellers offering store pick up

I suspect he's searching for the forgotten Tempest in the back corner of the warehouse that can be had for $80...

(psst, that doesn't exist in an op warehouse)

I hate dealing with arcade vendors. There's this one near here. I always tell him I want this and that and follow up with phone calls but he doesn't seem to care. I never got in touch with him again. The hell with him.

Have you read any of the discussion above? Phone calls are useless. Of course he doesn't care, you aren't dealing with him in any kind of serious manner. He's got stuff you want, but unless you show up to his warehouse with a bunch of money and a truck, you're a complete and total waste of his time. As are the other hundreds of folks who call him up every day repeating your very same questions to him.

You know that's how the game works. If you choose not to play by his rules, you only have yourself to be angry with, not the vendor. :)
