PAL/US PS1/PS2 budget releases of Japanese games

As the topic suggests, I'm curious about Japanese games that've been converted to English on the cheap and released by companies on budget labels.

Midas in the UK have done quite a bit of this, starting with PS1 - I would imagine quite a few of the games are from the Simple1500 series in Japan.

Similarly, there have been a few releases of Japanese games for PS2, like the arcade conversion of "Battle Gear 2" by Taito being released in PAL as "Tokyo Road Racer", again by Midas.

Is anyone out there interested in tracking these down, so we know what corresponds to what, and what's been changed, and.. etc etc? Is this already being done somewhere and I don't know about it?

I remember reading somewhere that some of the Simple 2000 games were being considered for localization. Just makes me wonder how it would work...they'd probably have to bundle a few together for sony to approve them, and would tehy just release them as their titles, or would they keep the Simple #?

Simple 19.95 series anyone? Heh.

I doubt they'd do all that great by their own, but if they priced them at 20 new they might do OK. I know there's several I'd like to buy, but I'm never the target demographic so my wants mean nothing. :D
