Terrible picture, I know. I could get better ones. Anyway, the yellow cart is down left. Up right is the gold cart, down right is the grey one.
I bought it two years ago, on this site. I was wondering if anyone knows any specific details about it. I've heard/read Nintendo distributed these to stores so they could use them as a display cartridge for NES's in stores, so people could see a working NES on a TV. This means they were never actually sold and that they're very rare. Could anyone verify this ? It's hard to find any information about it.
And yes, it's actually yellow. Not the common gold cart, it's bright yellow :)

I have one of those, too. Found it in a thrift store a few years back. I asked on the r.g.v.c. newsgroup at the time and was told that this was a test cart of some sort - used by repair shops as a sort of "standard" game and used as a final test along with the diagnostic carts that had similar yellow cases. AFAIK, it's the same game as in the other Zelda cases. I believe it's fairly rare.

Yes, actually I recall reading it's a test cartridge. I also recall reading they used it for testing NES's, but in stores. I guess I -assumed- they used it for displaying NES's on TV's.
Fairly rare ? Any idea how much out of 10 ? And... how much would it approx. be worth ?
And thanks for the reply :)

Very few of them exist. I don't know what the DP guide specifically says, but in comparison to other NES carts and their rarities, its a 9. The value would be whatever somebody is willing to pay. There's not a lot of these out there to give an estimate of price.
Personally, I think its cool, but for the price it would invariably fetch, I'd rather have one of the test carts that actually TEST something, rather than just load up Zelda. Nice find though.

Where did you find it in the DP Guide ? I did a (quick) search on it but didn't find anything. Thanks :)
And it's good to hear it's very rare. I bought it for... I think $300 and I could really use some money right now, I might just sell it.

I'd rather have it just on account of it being a rare Zelda variation!
Hmm, I wonder why we've had people just wander into these...

Never saw one of those before... Nice cart. Makes me want to hit every thrift in a 50 mile radius of here to try and find one for myself

do a search on "Yellow Test Carts" and there are a few good topics speculating on the number and rarity of these NES carts. Great find!
Like this one?
