Many of us old school gamers have a favorite character from this classic multiplayer game. Mine would be the Elf (aka Questor). Sorry, this a poll for the characters of the first arcade game only. :P

Valkyrie. Dunno why. Then again I almost always play "the chick".

Although I played the Lynx version the other day and was amazed and happy that it had a PIRATE class! Any of the newer ones have pirates in them?

The warrior. Because he always needs food.

Yea, I liked the Valkyrie too. She was nicely balanced.

I also liked some of the Lynx characters. Just like the previous Rampage poll :). I loved watching the Nerd throw those textbooks.

The Elf -- that way I can outrun Warrior when we find food.

Valkyrie all the way. Good speed and power, plus decent magic makes here my hero of choice.

No Geek? :S

Well, I'll go with...oh hell, they're all pretty awesome. I'll probably choose the Valkyrie though :)

I'm a big fan of the elf. He is lightning fast and the arrows are deadly. On the NES version he is the only one that I ever use. Though, the valkyrie is awesome as well. I used to be a big warrior fan until I realized just how slow he is :/

Warrior, but lately Im more partial to the Elf, he's quick and can escape out of danger asap

I've always used the wizard. No reason really,I just think wizards look cool.

Well....I played the other Gauntlets before I bought the NES game....so I just naturally gravitated towards the 8-bit version of my Red Warrior.

I see that I've been mistaken. LOL I'm gonna try that Elf!!

Warrior has always been my dude.

Definitely the Valkyrie. The warrior is WAY too slow, the elf's arrows are too weak and the wizard is weak in general because of his high magic. Valkyrie is the only person I don't get killed with after a few levels. LOL

A three way tie between the warrior, valkyrie, and elf so far. I wonder why no one appreciates the wizard as much. He has the most power when he uses the magic potion.

I've always used the warrior. I think his physical power makes up for his relative lack of speed and low magical abilities.

Oh my!

LOL - one word makes quite a difference.

Back to you, Wolf...

As a kid, I always played as the warrior or the elf. As I grew older I came to appreciate the valkyrie's awesome balance of power and speed.

Hmm...this makes me want to play Gauntlet again! @_@

I haven't played the arcade version much, but I played the heck of the Tengen NES version, and it's Questor all the way. The Valkyrie and Warrior seemed unbearably slow after I got used to him. The Wizard was my second choice, for his shots and strong magic. I know I was able to beat the game with Questor and I think I did it with the Wizard, but I never got very far with the other two.

Thor (Warrior)

Wow, I figured that Merlin would at least be in second place. LOL Come on, people. Thor is too slow, and the Elf's shots are way too weak. Sure, he's fast, but there's something to be said for the might of MAGIC!

Let's do the list:

Cool, crazy, godlike hair? Check.
Cool, crazy ZZ Top beard? Check.
Cool, crazy, billowy robes to attract all the babes? Check.
Good in hand to hand combat? Check.
Able to outrun everyone but Shorty McElf? Check.
Can throw FIRE from hands? Check.
Capable of decimating an entire screen's worth of badguys with a single magic potion? Check and mate.

Wizard all the way. :)

My heart says Valkyrie, but all the BASTARDS that I played with... Those lousy Questor's that stole every morsel said elf. Me, I voted elf... Hey I did it too. Sometimes...

Elf>Valkyrie>Warrior>Wizard for the original Guantlet.

Now if it was 'Legend or Dark Legacy' it would be like this.

Valkyire>Elf>Wizard>Warrior

If you notice the, Wizard is in third place. While he sucks in the original he's 'pretty good' in Legend&Dark Legacy ;)

I'll give Wizard second place... but my first choice (at least when playing with other people) has got to be the Elf. Run around stealing treasure and food while the others do the dirty work. 8-)

You fools ! I voted for the wizard :) He had the strongest magic and could clear the whole level with a single spell :D

I made it to level 426 on freaking quarter with my trusty wizard (Arcade version) and I would have kept going if my parents hadnt come to pull me away from the arcade

A little off topic , but how many of you know the "glitch" where you wait for all the walls to turn into exits? (arcade version)

I dont think thee was an ending to the Arcade game , but there was an ending to the NES version. I think it was at level 100 and you fought a 3 headed dragon :hmm:

I have never seen or heard of anybody getting further than me on the arcade cab , however I am sure it has been done. :/

There's also something to be said for the fact that magic potions were not doled out frequently enough to make use of said magic.

Warrior rules.

I used to always be the wizard, god knows why. I was so crap at that game. Me and my mate used to play it all the time on my Spectrum ZX and never get anywhere.
Yet its still one of my fav games ever
