Is there a list out there that shows just the unique games for each system?

Original, or unique? Bit of a difference there.

Well, I don't see the relevance of such a list unless you wanted a quick statistic or two...using it as a buying guide?

By unique do you mean rarity ?

Your question is a bit vague. :hmm:

Maybe I am in the wrong forum. I am interested in this from an emulation standpoint. By unique I mean a game that was only available for a particular system, ie Astroblaster for the Intelliviision. I have an arcade cabinent for my PC. I do not want every single version of Pac-man (Arcade, Atari 2600, etc) on it. What i would like is to have every game that appeared only on Atari 7800, etc.

Get the lists of all the games for all the systems, drop them in excel and kill the dupes. The same game sometimes is actually different when on a different system (different levels, bonuses, whatever). The setups for MAME I've seen generally break it out by system and then under the system is the game list.

Those old games are so small I wouldn't worry about it though - unless you're just looking at it from a cosmetic perspective (don't want the same game listed more than once even if they're for different systems).

I want to do it for ease of use in my front end for my arcade cabinent.

The excell idea is not a bad one. Is there a site that has lists for all of the systems that you had in mind ?

Yes, this one! It'll be a lot of copying and pasting, but just go to the Online Rarity Guide, select the systems you want and click Search. Then copy/paste each page into excel.

Be careful when pasting since the game listed on the bottom of each search page, is also listed again at the top of the next page. After you've pasted everything in you'll probably want to select all, and then copy/paste special (values only) into a new sheet so that you lose all the formating and html links to the site. Then you'll want to select the whole date column from the previous sheet and paste it in over the new stuff (when you just paste values the dates will be lost so).

This site has the best up-to-date guide of games I've ever seen so I have my own excel spreadsheets I use for collecting, but nothing that MAME would run.

Isn't there a goodset tool that has a list option or something when checking to see how complete your set is?

Good luck - did you build your own cabinet or purchase it?

I thought about here. I have actually found a few in text format since I posted here that may be a bit easier to deal with.

I bought my cabinet from Hanaho games a few years ago before their prices went up. I have since added a spinner and a couple of extra buttons so I can exit games and pause without using a keyboard. I am combining this with the Mamewah frontend. I can navigate game lists with my joystick and select a game with the player one button. I then have another button that will exit and shutdown windows. When i get my game list figured out I will set-up the front end as the shell and windoes will be completely hidden.

This is a sound idea in most cases but keep an eye on the games that went through name changes from one system to the next (e.g. Astrosmash for Intellivision became Astroblast for the 2600; Boxxle for the Gameboy was Boxyboy for the TG-16 and Sokoban for various other systems, etc.).

That's a good point. I am suprised someone out there does not have a web site that gives that information.

Thinking this through the ultimate would be to also identify games that have something unique about them as well. For example Centipede on Atari 7800 offering a two player option. The Digital Press book does some of this, but not completely.
