Sorry, if theres a similar thread, but i dont remenmber seeing one.

Anyway just curious if anyone has started this yet or even considered it? I'm thinking of doing it myself, which I probably will just as long as they dont start coming out with a huge number of games.

Ugh, I have barely even played any of my PSP games, I have to fix my dead pixel problem first...

As for collecting it, no way. The games cost way too much to collect them...

Well if buying it is considered "collecting" it, then yeah I'm collecting it already.

After all it's how I got every single one of my other video game collections.. I went to the store and bought em :P

I think that if you're collecting for this system, the best thing to do is buy the not-so-popular movies right now (if you're into those) and save the games for later. In my opinion, the movies will be MUCH rarer. At a Target I go to often, I saw them putting out all of the movies the other day -- one copy of each. Considering the row upon row of games they had that were all as deep as the eye could see, I think those will be the real PSP rarities.

might as well collect Betamax then.

Betamax wasn't a game system though, was it?

Hey, I'm not saying you have to collect the movies or anything like that. Just that if trends that I see right now hold, the movies are going to end up being MUCH rarer in the future than the games that are out right now. If you're investing your money and care about the movies, I'd suggest looking at those now, 'tis all.

And I have a betamax player, thanks ;)

nope, and UMD movies aren't games, are they? ;) . Heck even in FMV games you control the story flow a little.

collcting? no not as of yet, in my view collecting is buying any games you do not have that are of a cheap or affordable valuje regardles of the game. As of right now I am only buying games that interest me, so I am not collecting yet, and the prices are still a bit too steep to go all out on it yet.

I guess so. Applying my usual philosophy of only buying what I will play/what's interesting though. I have Lumines (import), Ridge Racer, Wipeout Pure & Untold Legends thus far. I don't do sports and have never liked THPS. Considering getting the Twisted Metal, but I may just wait for Coded Arms at this point. I tend to go Japanese-developed whenever possible.

Once the system takes a price drop, I'm gonna be all over the PSP like white on rice. I love the fact that it can be a little handheld movie theatre. That's the best feature IMO.

I'm about 50-50 regarding the movies. Part of me thinks they'll be collectable in the future (especially if the PSP remains the only means of playing them), and the other part thinks not (because they aren't games...not too many people are going after demo discs or the PlayStation Lightspan library).

Take Spider-Man 2 for example. Anybody who gets a new PSP now has no way of getting their hands on it except for getting a used copy somewhere. If (big if) Sony never re-releases it I can easily see some people willing to pay a higher price for it. Ditto for any other movies that go out of print.

I'm just collecting the movies anyway because the cases just look so nifty lined up on my shelf. :)

I'm collecting for the PSP, currently I have about 14 games-13US,1JP import. Although I'm undecided on the movies I have considered it.

I agree with you there, yet if the UMD movies become another standard for movies, then collecting them would be like collecting dvd movies because your xbox and ps2 can play them. I really don't think Sony wants to keep the UMD an exclusive for the PSP, if so they probably shouldn't have named it the "UNIVERSAL" Media Disc.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. I give UMD the same chance of success as beatamax, maybe even less.

So, should I add UMD movies to the DP Online Database? What do you all think? I was going to for the last update, but held off so I could ask.

One one hand, they are movies...but on the other, they are on PSP-proprietary UMD format. I mean, something could come along that also uses UMD and cancel that out, but as it stands currntly, PSP is the only device using it.

Thoughts?

I also think they'll be tougher to find one day, but I dunno if there's gonna be that many people looking for them.

If that's the case wouldn't it fall under Non-games?

well these are some interesting thoughts. I agree with goatdan and others that the movies as long as that cant be played on any other machine will be quite a bit tougher to find than the games.

I also am looking to get a complete...and I mean complete by all demos, big box, jewel, GH, lightspan, and all variations, etc. Just to stay on the demo disscussion I love em and have quite a few myself

And about adding the UMD movies to the database, as long as they can only be played on the PSP I think they should be on there, but if there is ever another machine that plays them, then take them off.
