View Full Version : Will you tune in for the debut of the 360 on MTV?

This thursday, the Microsoft XBOX 360 is going to debut on MTV in a special infomercial type thing hosted by Elijah Woods.
Are you counting down the hours with your Tivo's ready?

There's no option for "I would, but I can't.", which is my situation. So I guess I'll tape it if I remember to. Actually, I guess that fits with the first option. I have other plans that night (which I'll probably end up talking about in Off-Topic once it happens, since it's kinda significant :) ).

I don't mind watching MTV so I would sure tuning in. Unfortunately I'm not going to be home when they air the party/presentation. That's why I voted for the last option. If they make a rerun of they show and I can catch it, I'll sure watch it. It's gonna be interesting. I wonder how much MTV payed to show it! Or did X-Box pay MTV to show it? Anyway, I think it's a good move marketing wise.

I hope to be able to watch and tape it on my VCR, just in case there is some footage of a particular game that I would like to check out in more detail. Sometimes when stuff spashes across the screen you don't have time to really see what the hell is going on.
But I think it's kinda cool that we are going to get this information, whatever it is, before the actual e3 debut.
It's kinda nice that all the important people in video games are going to be watching along with all of us common folk.
By the way, what time does this thing come on? (pacific time)

Ugh, MTV.... I wouldn't watch an MTV special under almost ANY circumstances, let alone for something I really don't care about to begin with (a microsoft product)
They should get a friggin clue and put it all over techtv for a day like they did with the DS (Yes, it made the channel completely unwatchable for the whole day and it really sucked)

It's quite interesting to gauge the response to this MTV special.
I won't be watching it because I can't. And I'm very content with "missing out" because all the details - and so many more - will find their way onto the web in no time. So, what am I missing out on? Nowt!

Couldn't care less beside MTV is for the Y generation these days.
Watch it will have a rep from MS, saying how much Sony and Nintendo next. Console 'will suck if any thing at all.

Yeah, I'll be watching. I can't wait to see the console in action.

I'm kinda suprised by all the people not watching this just for the principal of it.
You guys should watch it and tape it. You never know when 15 years later some buy will pay $300 for a tape of it, like that one guy on here that will pay $300 for a CD-I commercial!
Just kidding, but seriously, if you have MTV you might as well watch it for a few minutes, just to see what the damn thing looks like.

It won't be worth jack for hundreds of years, if ever. Everyone who gives a monkey will watch it. And everyone who watches it will probably record it thinking it might be worth something.
This is pure advertising. Yes, we shall see the product (probably in action). And yes, they will probably run through the spec (though, it won't be heavily broken down). But the main goal is to sell the idea of having an Xbox 360 come launch. Nobody needs to watch this.
Infact, I'd like it if nobody watched it and Microsoft would learn to go through the usual channels in the future.

05-11-2005, 10:35 AM
Nah, I really don't like MTV, and I'm sure that it will be "extremed out to the max" with all kind of stars that are really relevant to the launch of the system like Ludacris and 50 Cent.
But besides that, I really don't give two shits in a barrel about the 360, I like the current gen and we don't need a new system yet. It really upsets me that they are releasing a new one, and that Sony and Nintendo are planning on one soon too, the current gen is just getting to their peak!
THATinkjar
05-11-2005, 11:04 AM
I completely agree. Well, I almost agree.
The current generation systems are far from dead. It disturbs me that so many key/great releases will hit the Xbox just weeks before the Xbox 360 is rumoured to be launching. That is madness to the extreme.
MS are going out on a limb here. I hope in many ways its a success. I want them to be around for some time to come because I've really taken to the Xbox. But I don't want it to overshadow current hardware because I think Nintendo and Sony realise there is much more to come on these platforms.

Of course I will watch it! I think everyone who is seriously interested in games will watch it in the end, MS/MTV hatred or not. The curiosity takes over.
If there is a lot of dumb blahblah (music, dumb cool jokes non-game related circus) going on, I'll turn it off pretty fast; but I want to see the next Xbox, see it in action, and the first important public strategy to market the new console.
I just have to look up the channel number of MTV. :) I watched around three years ago for about 5 minutes.

05-11-2005, 01:49 PM
Hmm
Won't there ever be another console that lasts longer than 4 years?
Or is that the current marketing strategy that points to when consumers are ready to shell out more money?
Or do you think microsoft is just trying to entice PS2 only gamers to cross over to the dark side?

Microsoft are branding the next generation as current generation. This is similiar, is it not, to when Sega's 16-bit effort was released and 8-bit gamers jumped ship? And then the SNES came along and established an even footing.

I'm very interested in this, for one reason:
The rumors are out of fucking control. Seriously. I want solid facts on every aspect of the system so I don't have to suffer through pages and pages of speculative bullshit about the abilities of the next gen. I want official pictures of the machine so all the horribly ugly concept designs can take a hike (yes, I know what it looks like but it needs to be official).
More than anything, I want to know why it's called 360.

Yeah, it's gonna suck, but I'll watch it anyway, burn it to DVD, rip it from the DVD to my computer, upload it in MPEG-4 format, host it on my web site and become famous as the guy who hosted the crappiest console intro ever.
Or not. I dunno. Anyways. I got my TiVo set, but I do NOT have a VCR nor will I be having a party. So I chose the second option.

In 15 years nobody will have VCRs, your TiVo's hard drive will be dead, and there won't be any interchangeable formats as Sony/other players exert their market power to break consumer control! Yipee! (It looks like Jasoco's got a handle on this, though...)

Yeah, I will be recording it to DVD just to have. Highest quality I can. I suppose it's a half hour. (22 minutes sans commercials) Then that means my 1HR high quality DVD will have an extra half hour+ to be filled up. Hmm.. What to record.. what to record.. ;)
It's at 9:30 Eastern, roght? That's the time I set my TiVo for three weeks ago.
Also, haven't we already seen the Xbox 360? What really is left except to have scantily clad cheerleaders dance around it while Hip-Hop artists and the American Idol assholes sing about it?
[Double checks TiVo To Do list.]
Damn! The Apprentice is on at the same time! God dammit. Conflict! What to do now? Both shows will air once and never again. Shoot. When I added that Season Pass a few weeks ago I didn't realize it would take priority over my manual 360 recording. *sigh* Glad I checked. Now I have to re-add it.

The Killers? I don't know if that's better or worse!
Wait.. double-checking again. The show's gonna rerun four more times after. I'll just record the 1:30AM showing Friday morning. Damn, I hate conflicts!

I wouldn't tune in to MTV to watch anything.
Plus considering I have next to no interest in the current XBox, I couldn't give a crap about the new one either. I don't care about hardware; I care about games that I can actually have in my hands right now. Even after all these years, the XBox has barely any games that interest me (I don't dig American games and PC-style games), so I think it would take a good amount of time for the new XBox to build up a library consisting of enough titles that have my interest to make me want the system. I'm more interested in the idea of the current XBox dropping in price so I can pick one up for $20 along with a few Sega games or such.

This kind of comment makes me sad. An entire generation is typified by this sort of idiotic protestation of successful business' and their owners.
I believe I will quite happily purchase suitable MS products, maybe even at Wal Mart. I can't imagine why a person wouldn't. Does an Xbox NOT suit your needs? Or do you have philosophical issues with it? Furthermore, do you have no curiosity about the next console coming to market? You certainly have enough interest in the console to post a reply in this thread...

Yes, I'm definitely going to watch it, but it will probably be kinda cheesy
Is what I say, MTV is going to have a flashy show with some live band and a bunch of bimbos who have never touched a video game in their entire life...
and Elijah Woods from LOTR will be there. (Actually he does play Xbox...during the filming of Return of the King, him and the other three hobbit cast members would spend their breaks playing Halo)
i'll watch it to find out the real dirt, and see how much it will be, and all the features which I hope they announce.

Holy Cthulhu, they're unveiling it on MTV? Now that's just sad.
Does anybody else find it kind of odd that it's called 360? I mean, besides being a plain dumb name. I mean, say, Xbox 180 would make sense, if they wanted to say they were doing things completely different from last time. What are they trying to say? It spins in circles? It's headed in the exact same direction as the first one, except it's turning around first? And I find it funny that 360 degrees = one full...revolution. LOL
