Just take a firm grasp of the Genesis and pull to the left. You also might need to pull up depending on how the Genesis is seated in there. It's actually pretty painless.
Oh, and make sure you have the cover for the pin connector (it's red) and the cover for the slot (it's black). Both are for the Genesis. Otherwise, dirt and other nasty stuff could get up in there. If you don't have those, then it's probably better just to leave the Genesis hooked up to the Sega CD.

OK, I think Gapporin has basicly covered it, except I would not really worry to much about the pins that are on the Genesis and plug into the Sega CD. I mean, if you have the cover(s), Good! Use Them! But if you don't just be careful of them, don't let them get baddly scratched or busted off, simple common sense. These pins are actually very durable! I have got systems before without the covers, and even when they are scratched up a bit, I just give them a good cleaning (clean them just like a cartridge as that is bascily the whole design of this piece) and they will work perfectly on a CD system!
So pull to the LEFT and then UP, and be careful of the pins.
Oh, and while I thinkin of it, if you plan on opening the Genny and cleaning it up, there will be a metal plate on the bottom of the system, required to hook it up to a Sega CD, just remember where it goes and put it back on when your done.
It is very basic to get the system off. I hope I helped. :D

There is a plastic extender piece that is used to hook the Genesis 1 to the CD 2. If this is there, it might need to be removed, but Im not positive.

No, the base extender (that's what it's called) doesn't have to be removed, but SuperNES may want to anyway to clean the systems and the base extender, but that's only if he wants to and if he has a Genny model UNO. You know, I also want to point out that you can wtill hook up a Genesis 1 to a CD 2 without this and get them working fine, it just doesn't look as good. Oh well, guess I'm done here for now.
