View Full Version : Anyone have/seen a videogame License Plate?

I was driving around yesterday and saw the coolest personalized plate ever: SHINOBI. Plain and simple, no abbreviation, and usually I detest all personalized plates. It's an unnatural hatred, but I've worked through it.

So anyone have or have seen a videogame plate?

i just recently saw NINTNDO

I'm fairly certain this topic has been covered waaaaay in the past, but damn if I can find a link.

My license plates read "AT 2600" with a frame that reads "I'd rather be playing Atari." And, as I recall, John Hardie himself has "ATARI" as his plates.

As for personally seeing some plates, it only happened once here in Ohio. Several years ago, I saw "FROGGR".

Sihnobi isn't exactly a videogame liscence plate, but anyways. In real life, I know I saw one once, but for the life of me I can't remeber what it was now... It was only a few months ago too.... I'm getting old...

Someone in my hometown has MSPACMN for his CA plate. He's the owner of the local bowling alley, but he made his $ in arcade games.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. Could be someone who is just into ninja and such. In fact, most license plate possibilities could be coincidences, so to know if it's intended to be about video games we'd have to get confirmation from the owner.

Anyway, I see tons of ridiculously stupid personalized plates in NYC, but I've yet to see a video game reference. The closest I've ever seen are random assortments of two or three letters that happen to form an acronym for a game.

A fan of the GCN game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem went out and got himself a set of PARGON plates. Pargon is the "Power" rune from the game. Wonder what he's got under the hood...

Ha! I used to have (at the time Flack saw it) CMMDR 64 as my plate. I remember when I first got it and saw it that I realized that "crap, people are gonna think commander 64." Bugged me for a few years. In January, I totaled my car (lots o fun there) and used the opportunity to get a whole new license plate, the one I really wanted all along--CMDOR 64. I'm happy now!

I've never seen anybody with a video game reference before, but if I did, I'd probably put something like KUPO or MOOGLE on it. Actually, I'd probably be tempted to do something a bit more obscure.

On the old Everquest boards I used to go to, somebody got a picture of a SOW PLZ.

Back when I played Dark Age of Camelot, I freaked out when I saw a plate that said ALBION, until somebody pointed out that it's a town in Northern California. LOL

Just a couple of months ago I saw a guy here in Albuquerque with a New Mexico plate what read "ATARIAN". Excitedley I started trying to get this guy's attention at a stoplight "Yoo hoo! Cool plate! Do you play? Do you collect?" etc. The guy said he liked Atari as a kid, didn't own one at the present, and he actually seemed a little embarassed that I'd be asking him this stuff at all let alone in traffic. I was shocked to say the least. Here I am thinking I found a kindred spirit for me and my homey Altairboy and this guy turns out to be just some yuppie retro-poseur. That should be my plate, dammit.

My choices would be "ATARI26" or "GALAGA". Hell yeah...

I never saw an -intentional- VG license plate, but here in NY circa 2000, they were giving out license plates with dw# as the first 3 characters. I could nto see one o fthose without thinking of Dragon Warrior.

I also saw one that said "N64 5FC" (Try translating the 5 from 1337-speak)

I can't beleive his liscense plate doesn't read "Corona"

Awesome topic.
About 6 months ago, pulling out of Clearwater Mall in Clearwater, FL, there was a new Mercedes convertible with license plate "XEVIOUS".

I so wanted to get out of the car and talk to the guy. Always wondered if he ever visited this site.

Being a big hockey fan and the fact that I have played hockey and goalie for a long time, I really wanted to use: "bigsave" or some other goalie term.

But in the end, I just decided that the NES is the way to go :)

This got me looking on the Virginia DMV web page. For most plates it is only an annual fee of $10 (4-6 weeks delivery). The # of characters depends on the plate type, with the most being 7.5 characters with is 7 alpha numeric and either a space, a dash, or an ampersand.

Do you think it would be better to go with a game reference, or use your handle like 2DSKILZ?

I am going to have to think of some ideas...

DogP
01-03-2006, 03:02 PM
I dunno... I'd go with a game reference, just because I hate when I see a plate that I can't figure out, and it just ends up being some name or something... although 2DSKILZ would be easy enough to figure out if you had a Mario Bros bumper sticker or something. I've got the VA .com plates, but I haven't personalized them yet... I was thinking about doing DOGP, but I should register the DOGP.com domain, and then it'd be advertising too ;) .

But like I said, most people wouldn't have a clue what that is, and I hate plates like that :P . I guess they would probably figure out Dog-Pee and think it was funny, but wouldn't get it... like I saw a plate a while ago... it was CMPN5. At first, I thought it was hilarious... C-M-P-N 5... See 'em peein' 5. But I think it was supposed to be Campin 5 LOL .

Kupo's my boyfriend's cat's name.

Just wanted to share that. LOL

Also, I have never seen a video game vanity plate, but I did see a NH plate that said PLATE and thought it mildly amusing

EDIT: I forget whether my boyfriend saw this in person or if it was in a magazine (it might've actually been in person) but it was an all-blue car with Sonic the Hedgehog stickers and shit all over it and a Sonic clingie in the back window and everything and vanity plates that either said SONIC or something related to Sonic the Hedgehog. I wish I'd seen that!
