I have searched but so far been unable to find any pre-existing threads concerning the subject matter so please direct me to any that do and lock this one should any exist.

I am considering the purchase/trade of 2 import games (Chobits, PoPoTan) for my PS2 but am unshure what means I have available to play them on the domestic system. I want to avoid any system mods as I do not wish to take my PS2 apart. The games are at a price I consider worth while so any help would be apreciated. I figured that one of the cheat device/disc would work, but am unshure on that as I hear conflicting advice on it.

Most PS2 mods require actual physical modification to the system. My personal recommendation is to just have two PS2s (that's what I do), but since doing so is pretty expensive, I understand if that's not an option. I'm not familiar with cheat devices on the system, so I don't know if any of them let you play imports or not.

Maybe you sould try looking into something like this (http://www.estarland.com/Playstation2.product.20766.html).

You sould also try PM'ing Gunpanther about boot disks, or check out his thread here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=605056&highlight=#605056)

Use the Swap Magic boot discs. They work great for me. You will have to do some minor modifications to the console, though. For the old-style PS2, this requires replacing the upper shell with a custom one that has a flip-top lid. For the new PS2, you have to install something that holds down the lid switch so you can change discs without the PS2 knowing you've opened the lid. I'd recommend using this approach, because it's generally pretty easy to set up and use.

if you are seriousl about two PS2, then getting PS2 Test would be better option as long as you don't mind loosing DVD video playback on your PS2.

Yes it can be obtainable - though you will need to have certain connection or hang around the right forum. :p

FWIW mine is from Acclaim auction...

Thanks for all the help! I initialy wanted to avoid the costly purchase of an aditional PS2 as I would perfer to spend the money on whats most important. The games. I also wanted to avoid any modifications as I generaly play gremlin and find extra parts with game systems any more complicated then the SNES. Of the 3 options viable, it apears that $$ is the only choice I have available. I will have to think about this some though.

Man, that's sweet looking. I'm convinced that this is probably the cheapest way to play imports on your PS2 (Swap Magic discs/Flip Top Case).

I think I'm gonna do this to one of my PS2s. :rocker:
