That's Pong Hit, not Bong Hit ;)
But yeah, whenever I hear Amsterdam, videogames are not at the top of my mind. Maybe a way to help reassure the girlfriend.

Well i live 15 min. from Amsterdam and i know only one real retro gameshop, but games are kinda exspensive there,it's really easy to find from Amsterdam station.
There are some arcades there but not with retro games as far as i know, only new generation stuff.
Anyways cool your going enjoy your stay and don't get too...ah well you know! :)

Go to that one part of town and ask the girls standing in windows if they have any video games. Pretend they're E3 booth babes or something :)

I would look out with those girls, a lad I know once went there and had comments on the 'work'the girl was giving him for his bucks and so e was kicked out in 3 minutes and was 60 euros poorer..
Now to be serious.
I come almost weekly in Amsterdam (my girlfirend lives there, so don't try to steal her fun 8-) ) and I don't know any good gameshops nor arcades. I don't know arcades at all at the moment which still have videogames, all the ones I know just have gambling crap. For gamestores, there's a retroshop near the station, but the prices are extremely high normally, also I ddin't like them for trying bootleg mvs-carts as real carts. But for the rest hey Amsterdam can be fun. Oh there is a pub/dancing called Korsakov or somthing like that near the Marnixstraat and they have a Pinbot pinball standing (there only open at night, but the beer is relative cheap).
Oh Nes-a-holic, can you then tell me where a arcade is with some videogames in Amsterdam.

There is one in the street of the IT (dance club),there is an arcade on a corner in that same street.

True. Their prices are usually way to high (like EUR 200,- for a virtual boy for example). But sometimes they sell excess stock on eBay for a low starting price. Problem is that they don't ship, but you have to go and pick it up at their shop (which rules out 99.999% of all eBayers). Because of this their stuff usually goes for the starting bid, so if you are lucky you can get some good deals from them every once in a while if you happen to be in the neighbourhood... ( http://www.gameover.nl/ is their website just in case you want to go there.)

True yok-dfa i snatched a few of them through eBay, but that does not happens all to much, you have to pick them up indeed.
I bought a few completes from them for mega cheap on eBay, i told them that the prices are real high in the store but they say the games works for %100 guaranteed and they clean them all the time.Still i find them too much to buy….

for fleas or any other place to find retro games? well, i don't know any but i'm quite sure anagrama who is in Amsterdam right now will clear them all, especially if you're looking after Sega games LOL

There are a number of dutch collectors living in/around Amsterdam, so i'm pretty sure it has already been cleared in and out many times LOL

I went but did not find anything, i must admit i havent checked every stand.

I didn't really look for anything when I was there...I did have the intention to do so at first, but after noticing how many of the stands were commercial stands, I decided to just party instead of hunt ;) I think that outside the center of Amsterdam and elsewhere in the Netherlands the flea markets had more private stands, so that would've been better for finding classic gaming goodies. If I don't go to Amsterdam next year for Queen's Day I'll probably check out some of the fleas located elsewhere in the Netherlands. :)

P.S. I was surprised at how peaceful it was in Amsterdam on Queen's Day considering how just about everyone was pretty wasted...didn't witness any fights anywhere ;)

hi,
my name is simon. i am the owner of game over? the retro-game-shop in amsterdam.
we are located on the opposite of central station, in the small street on the right of the victoria hotel, so should be easy to find. open monday - saturday from 13-18.00
ofcourse we are not as cheap as games that you can buy on internet of flea markets, but i still think most of our prices are very good. because we have to pay taxes, rent, people working in shop, etc.etc, we can never reach the prices you find on internet and flea markets. but buying in our shop is much safer and faster. everything we sell is tested. you can see and test everything before you buy it. you don't have to pay shippingcosts, import/customstax, and paying costs (money orders, registrated envelopes, creditcards, etc.etc). there is no risk you get a game that is in not so good condition as seller describes. no risks games get lost in mail, or damage. no waitingtimes. no trouble paying. no risk buy something on fleamarket and get home it's not working. no ebay snipers that overbid you in last seconds. etc.etc.
i know everybody that thinks about this, understands we can never reach the internet/flea market prices.
ofcourse we are still learning everyday. ofcourse we make mistakes sometimes. sell games for too high prices, or too low prices. but we try to make all prices as fair as possible.
just too bad that, for example, if we have 100 nintendo nes games priced at 6 euro, and 1 game priced at 30 euro, everybody only seems to see the 30 euro one, and tell this to everybody. the other 100 low priced games you don't hear anybody about. but no problem. shop is going very well. we are already open for 3.5 years, and still going strong. many changes made in 3.5 years. many games are priced lower and lower all the time.
at this moment we have about 500 saturn games (european, usa, and japanese) at 50% price sale.
most systems we sell, we give a free game now.
we buy many games/systems everyday. only in excellent or better condition ofcourse. people can choose if they want cash money, or, a much higher price to choose other games from the shop. this option is very popular since we get about 20 - 30 people trading their games/systems everyday.
about neo geo mvs. sharp wrote we sell bootleg mvs games. to be honest (and i tell this to everybody) we don't know much about neo geo mvs cartridges because those were made for arcade systems, and not for home systems. but i find it hard to believe that from the 100-200 mvs games we have, they are all bootlegs. i'm trying to learn about this, but it seems to be very hard to see the difference. also, you are the first person that is telling me this, from hundreds of customers that we got for neo geo stuff. the only thing i can tell for sure is that they all work because they were tested. for this problem (bootleg or not), it's great we are a real shop. so you can come see the game for yourself before you buy it. no risks.
about virtual boy. yok-dfa wrote we sell virtual boy for 200 euro. actually it is 159 euro. but i agree this is very expensive. problem is that we just don't get them in. nobody wants to sell them, unless we pay totally ridiculous high prices. so we had a choice. or, we don't have the system at all, or, we have the system but at high price. we chose for having it for high price. so people can decide themself if they want it or not. you have to understand that everybody these days knows exactly what these systems are worth, and they all want very high price for these. but if we buy it and sell it for high price also, everybody complaints. the systems we have in shop are in excellent condition and fully tested. i bought a few times a virtual boy from internet or ebay, and i had to return them all because of damages. stands broken/missing, and the (sorry my bad english) the thing where you put your face against to look into the virtual boy is also most times damaged. or joystick in bad condition. so buying cheap is many times a bad buy. and don't forget shippingcosts and import/customstax.
don't worry about shop is been cleared out. :-P because we buy many games/systems everyday. so stock changes everyday.
ok, that's my small explanation. i hope people understand our position better now. although people will always find something new to complain about. if it's not any game, then it's the weather :-P or prices for the fun-girls in amsterdam :-P :-P . but we will keep learning all the time. and always listen to customers.
any questions, please email to joystick@xs4all.nl
or ask in the shop. we always try our best to make everybody happy and help and advise.
greetings
simon

Hi Simon,
Welcome to Digital Press :)
Anyway, the last time i was in your shop was more then 1 year ago so maybe you have lowered the price since then. Like you explained, i can understand why your prices are probably going to be higher then on eBay (rent, wages, profit, etc. etc.) I think your shop attracts the more casual gamers who just wants to buy a game without any hassle and don't mind paying a little more for it while these boards are probably more populated by 'hardcore' gamers who spent 5 hours a day on eBay/thifts/etc. and are used to taking a little risk here and there to get that hard-to-find game for cheap.
Cheers,
Raymond

hi raymond.
thanks.
yes. lots of changes since 1 year.
hehehe. even lots of changes since last week. 8-)
yes, we get many casual gamers.
but also many die hard/hardcore gamers,
and many of them buy also on internet/ebay.
some things you can find cheaper on internet/ebay,
and some things you can find cheaper in our shop,
or for almost the same price, which makes people
choose to buy it in our shop, so they don't have to
pay shipping, import, no waiting, no risks.
i always tell people if they see something on internet
for much cheaper than in our shop, they should buy
it on internet. but if it is almost the same, they should
buy it in our shop. :)
also, we buy and trade games ofcourse.
everybody always has some games they don't play
anymore, so you can bring them in, and get cash
money, or get a discount when buying another game.
that is something that is very complicated to do on
internet/ebay, and very expensive.
greetings
simon

I know one gameshop (called gameshop) in The Hague. I heard there's also a shop in Leiden that just opened.
Don't expect to find games for $1,- (or euro for that matter) though.
