If this is a repeat post delete it. I went into my local GameStop and the convo went like this.

Me: Man, your nes games are 50 percent off?
Manager: Yes we r trying to get rid of them.
Me: Really why?
Manager: Nintendo said they will not fix them anymore so there is no point in carrying them anymore these are the last ones we will carry.

Now this may only be in Miami but i think some of our other forumers might wanna get independent confirmation on this.
Just to be sure that it was only GameStop that would stop selling them, I asked the manager of my local EBgames and he said they will still have them.

I thought they were all already gone. I visit about 5-7 gamestops on a regular basis and I can't remember the last time I saw an NES game in any one of them. Of the ones I visit (chicago suburbs), only 1 of them carries SNES games, only 3 carry N64 games and 2 dreamcast games. They all carry ps1 =) and none saturn or any other system.

Yeah, about a year too late. All the other gamestops across the US got rid of "old" games in Feb 2004.

Must be a Florida thing. LOL

Good one, gotta remember that one for later.

Yet, he's correct. GameStop's have not carried NES games since that time.

Yeah theres still some left along with SNES, Genny and DC but its all been condensed into a few stores in each large area, usually the bigger ones.

Only one or two still have NES stuff in my area. Most of them are leftover sports titles...

Yep, stores in the NYC/NJ area no longer have them. Here's the thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60599).

No Famestops or EB's in my area have anything pre PSX now. The only place that still sells classic is Gamecrazy.

I was told by a friend that Gamestop and EB would no longer carry anything older then curent beyond the GB stuff and the PS1. The reason given was that there simply wasnt a profitable market for it as most older games either dont sell for a high enough profit, or simply do not sell at all. In other words, there just isnt a market for it. While I disagree with his assesment, I find it hard to doubt his word as he's a disctrict manager.

A few stores do, but they're thoroughly picked over. Same goes for Genesis, SNES, and Dreamcast.

I think it has more to do with a lack of floor space (remember, new consoles are coming) than there not being a market for them. Those GS stores are like tiny closets with windows.

I'm sure the stores make more money selling modern games as opposed to old ones, but lack of space is another huge reason. A lot of these EB and GameStop stores are TINY. I mean, they allready are CRAMMED with as much stuff as they can pack in. There's a limit....and when you can make more profits off of newer games, it's a no brainer in most cases.

Besides, don't the old Funco locations (now GameStop's) still carry a lot of older games and accesories? The two in my area are still 75 percent that.

EBGames here still carry them.

"Nintendo won't fix them?" WTH, its not like Nintendo EVER fixed their carts. They've been outta warranty for years. They must mean the central sweat shop won't clean them anymore.

Well the good news is that if you cant find older games as easily, they become harder to find and hence more valuable!
GOODWILL HERE I COME!

AND LAY OFF THE FLORIDA BASHING! At least it was 89 here today

Hoo boy, I remember when I first heard that GS was going to stop carrying the older stuff...I thought it was the end of collecting as I knew it. However, I simply expanded to thrifts and garage sales, and although I don't get as much as I used to, there's still plenty of places to find games--you just have to look in the less obvious places. :)

Gamestop still carries older games? News to me.

I haven't seen a decent collection of old stuff in a GS since 2002.

But i also remember there was a hot asian girl working behind the counter.

Maybe it was all just a dream x_x

We DO? The EB and GameStop in the Dover Mall quit carrying 16 bit and under stuff last year.

You wouldn't mind telling me where these stores are, would you? ;)

It's not just games for new consoles, as over the past few years they've added DVD movies as well.
