I see topics upon topics about people showing off their favorite parts or rarest or best parts of their collection, but how about the worst part or parts?

Personally, I hate having to keep my games under my futon and bed in these bins:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v93/Kuros/gamecollection/gcollect012.jpg

It's pretty unflattering and the games get dusty on the top, but what can I do? I have no room elsewhere.

Another thing is that I have a copy of Superman for the NES, but the board inside is for The Legend of Zelda. It's annoying.

I'd say my worst items are my Rambo 3 and Castlevania: Bloodlines cartridges. They both have very damaged labels, which drives me nuts! I decided to keep them since I'd feel bad about giving them up. Someone needs to give 'em a home...

I have a Virtual Boy and the stand is cracked but not completely broken off. So it bends in all directions but of course can't function as a stand anymore. As a collector I feel like I shouldn't completely rip it off because it's somewhat still there. Just annoys the hell out of me every time I come across it. Defintely the scum of my collection!

My Tecmo Bowl cartridge for Game Boy. The auction I bought it from was cheap and had no image. Naturally, the label is trashed.

NOOOO! I LOVE the big-ass plastic Saturn cases! They are the bomb! Of course, they shatter and shoot out projectiles like a bomb if you drop them and having a bunch of shittty, broken cases certainly sucks, but when they are nice, they are really really nice.

My shittiest part of my collection is my oldest stuff... the Atari 2600 and CV games. In a box in my Mom's hot attic. Probably melted.

They take up WAY too much space. Most of my stuff is in one room and it is VERY cramped in there; last thing I need are a bunch of non-standard cases sitting in boxes. I've got just a handful of Sega CD/Saturn games and they take up all of one smallish box I've got.

Now, FM Towns/x68K games I'll give a pass, because there's actually something to look at on that space (even if the interior is usually mostly empty space), unlike the stupid, venomously hateful and dumbed-down stripe patterns we were "rewarded" with here in the US. For christ's sake, just because we play games on shitty teevees doesn't mean we need guide bars to find the title of our games. *Real* Japanese Saturn cases (well, I three different kinds - Samurai Spirits III, Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG, and Segata Sanshirou Shinkenyugi/Bio Hazard) are all much smaller and yet manage to have nice manuals and great printing/layout.

My Mattel Aquarius systems, I have 3 of them, no games, controllers. They have been sitting in my closet of crap for 4 years, untouched. Come to think of it, I don't even know if any of them work.

I have a Odyssey 300, bright yellow thing. It smells like cat urine, thanks to the slobs that owned it before me.

Oh and all my damn cables that are all over the place that need to be organized yesterday, they are just plain ugly and annoying, but of course I keep "forgetting" to clean them up.

When I still had it, it was my Jaguar CD drive. The CD never wanted to start turning...you had to constantly readjust the drive unit until it started working. It's no wonder I got rid of it.

I'm not sure I do have a "worst" part now...maybe it's just that the collection is too darn large. I should really pare down my systems. I could probably see myself parting without pain such systems as my Genesis, Saturn, ColecoVision and N64 as I don't really play those much at all anymore. I probably haven't played either the Genesis or the Colecovision in a couple years, in fact.

That's a pretty lame flaw. o_O You can't come up with anything "worse" than that? Heck, I'd thank my lucky stars if I had 800-some games (that's over 200 more than I currently have). The biggest problem here is not with your collection but with yourself for not being happy with what you have.

Anyway, the worst thing about my collection? Probably the fact that it's split up between two houses, each on opposite sides of the country. It really sucks when I'm in the mood to play a particular game and it's not at the house I'm at.

And, of course, I have a fair number of games, accessories, and systems in poor condition, but all that stuff I got for very cheap or free, so I can't complain too much. :P

The worst part of my collection? THE WHOLE THING!

Why? Cause it's so damn big! LOL I love it so much that I'm constantly moving stuff out of my room (still live at home) to make room for it. I've moved all my clothes into my brothers closet and most everything else is in storage. I've even cleaned out my dresser, save for one drawer, and have started storing games in it!

The worst parts of my collection are:

1. That I'm still missing quite a lot of stuff that I want!!
2. I have over 100 NES games that I bought from a local rental store back in the day, including a whole lot of very rare games, and they all have the most annoying and sticky rental stickers on the carts, and sometimes even on the labels!!

The fact that it will never be complete.

But, if you wanted something actually real.. then I would have to say:
My 1 game for the TG-16
My 1 game for Dreamcast
My 2 games that I have for Colecovision, and I don't even have a Colecovision (I bought them when I started collecting, and I thought they were 2600 games :embarrassed: )
My loose N64 games (I want to get boxes for them)

My N64 games. I hate the fact that there is no label on the top of the cartridge! I have them in a plastic drawer so I have to flip through them everytime I want one. Fortunately I don't have that many so it's not a huge hassle, but it's aggravating to look at when I'm showing people my stuff.

Like some have posted, the size of my collection is what sucks. Sure, it's nice to have all those systems and games, but does it take up the room! @_@ (Wish I could afford a bigger house)

Single and living in a house, and I've got games in boxes, on shelves, stacked on top of almost everything upstairs, etc. It is just a bloody mess. I'd like to organize it somehow, someday, but I've been planning on doing that for over 9 years now.... :hmm:

so little time, so much to do!

Pantechnicon
05-13-2005, 12:26 AM
First off, it's a frikkin mess. Carts all mixed in with one another, Gordian knots of cables etc. There's a precariously stacked tower of Rubbermaid tubs full of goodies in one corner that is both an eyesore and a potential child-crushing landslide waiting to happen. It's all in a literal "Room of Doom" meaning you have to be very careful where you step and move lest a wayward elbow send some priceless gem crashing onto the hard tile floor.

Individually I would say the worst part is my MB Microvision which I think I may have accidentally fried when, not knowing it only took one 9-volt, I tried wiring in 4 AA's instead. It got really hot really fast and hasn't worked right ever since. I only have one game for it but still the shame, man...the shame...:shameful:

the worst part of my collection would probably be my NES, Saturn, 32X and SMS games. Why, you ask? Because I don't have room to hook those systems up and therefore can't play any of those games. It sucks! :/

The least appealing games that I have would have to be the 30 Memorex VIS games that I have. I found these a while ago. They are complete with the large outer boxes BUT all have seemed to suffer water damage and are pretty much warped. The jewel cases and games are fine however. But then its VIS and who plays this thing and is over the age of 2?

My American old school stuff period, except for my well notarized titles.

I'm trying to sell a majority of my American SNES, Genesis, Saturn and my entire Turbografx 16 lot to go Japanese. I wanna see the shelves in my room filled with Katakana and Kanji.

The scum of my collection are my disk only DC games which include Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Chu Chu Rocket!, and Dynamite Cop!. Now, the later two I mentioned I have managed to pick up complete copies (Chu Chu Rocket is still sealed). Not only can I not stand to look at them, but three of them are scratched badly. My extra Dynamite Cop! and Marvel vs. Capcom (  ) are no longer recognized on my DC and Street Fighter Alpha 3, while almost flawless, has one, deep scratch that causes the game to freeze up everytime I fight Balrog in almost every mode. I'll get them buffered someday, but they will still be scum without being complete.

I have a disgusting bastard son of a room of doom right now.

At a point it was a beautiful thing, then the impulse buying started. I bought all these nice chrome shelves for displays and now the nice collection I once had so proudly diplayed it cluttered by stacks of random shit. I have to step over all the boxes on the floor and move game related stuff off my black leather couch to even sit down.

DISGUSTING!

The worst part of my collection are all those damn EA titles............ I think their motto is "Quantity over quality." Apparently to them, the more games you have for a system means you dominate it more. Too bad a majority of them all suck.

Haoie
06-18-2005, 04:40 AM
I've got a couple of really bad [by my standards] titles that I want to get rid off, but not before I find something decent to replace them with. You know that feeling? Not wanting to let go because you've got no replacement.

Anyway 2 I really want out are MDK and Wild 9, both made by Interplay.

In my Saturn "collection" it's the loose Sonic 3D Blast I got from an auction that came with a bunch of games. One was Mr. Bones, but disc 2 was missing and instead replaced with, yep, Sonic 3D Blast. It's a pain because I actually like the Sonic game and would much rather have it complete.

In my SNES collection, it's the gold colored Sim City game I got creative with one day. Gold markers and games should not mix.

My Sega CD collection is the same as the first. I have a copy of Vay, a great RPG, loose in a makeshift box to at least keep it protected. I really want the full thing.

In my DC collection, I have this one game. One incomplete game. Damn Gauntlet game came without instructions or an insert. I keep wanting to unload it, but no stores take them anymore.

Then there's the fact I have a total of 3 games for my Jaguar and only keep the thing because I can't stand only having one game for a system and not the system. The one game is Doom. I would NEVER give that up. So the Jag must stay. At least Tempest 2000 is cool.

Same as above, I have that one N-Gage game I got off eBay for $8 (Tomb Raider) but have no N-Gage. I'd much rather complement it with a boxed N-Gage so it wasn't so lonely.

Then there's my 2600 games. I'd dump them all if I didn't want to keep that one game. Fast Food FOREVER! Oh, and Video Pinball. I doubt it even works. The system that is. Seeing as I'd much rather hook it up via RCA, but don't have the time or money to hack it so I'll just emulate it when I need to.

Oh, and my NES that I'm too lazy to get a replacement pin thingy so I just use it topless and fiddle with placing weights on the game when I get it into a working position. Last time it was a Liberty Bell holding down Dragon Warrior. I hate those battery games with the lingering fear of erasure. [Prays DW makes it to the Revolution.]

Stuff that's not a burden:
My R.O.B. that had broken parts when I got it, but thanks to a kind soul on one of the forums, I completed it and he sits happily on my shelf. I love him!

Also, my NES collection, because hell, NES games are IMHO the only cartridges that can be loose and still look good on a shelf. They look great next to the small collection of 20 boxed NES games I have.

Honorable Mention:
That damn 32X DOOM game with the rotated side label. They're all like that! And it's literally the only 32X game like it!

Probably my genesis games. I don't have room to display them all so they are tuck away in boxes under the basement step. So storing those is a problem, but since they are out of the way it's no big deal.

The biggest eyesore in my collection is my complete longbox discworld. "What's wrong with that" you ask? Nothing really, I love the game but it's my only longbox playstation game. So while on the shelf it can either look stupid with the other playstation games, or it can be out of place with the Sega CD and Saturn stuff. What to do, what to do

All my games for systems that aren't hooked up! I moved to a small apartment and space is a real premium. I have no room for more than two or three systems at a time. :grrr:

Because of this I decided that I will sell off most of my games due to lack of space.

freckledpeas
02-05-2006, 02:37 AM
Like several others here, lack of space is the worst part of my collection... My game room shrinks with each new (old) system I acquire!

There are some general pet peeves in my collection that I've learned to live with but wish weren't there, such as discolored systems (i.e. pristine whites turned dingy yellow), missing pieces (i.e. battery covers gone MIA), and imperfect carts (i.e. sharpie markings, torn labels, etc.).

My N64 games purchased from pawn shops. To make it easier to peruse the games, they decided to write the name of the game, in sharpie, on the top of all the cartridges. I've tried to get all the sharpie off, but have been unsuccesful in removing it all. And they just sit in the drawer, with half removed writing, taunting me. I hate Sharpies so much...

The worst part of my NES collection is that every game I have since I and my brother was kids is permanently marked with our last name. Our mum did this because we had a "friend" that used to steel our games at times, and then I was not into collecting so I didn't care. I can possibly remove it with alcohol or something though...

What is even worse is that our mum threw away EVERY box and almost every manual as well because she didn't think we had enough space for them... :( It is kind of hard and expensive trying to find Scandinavian-released boxes and manuals.

Not having a "room of doom" devoted entirely to my collection. As it stands, my games are on shelves in the living room along with my systems. Still, it's not enough for a collection I'm spending too much time trying to improve and thinking about. However, I might be able too remedy the situation in the near future as I'm looking into buying a house. :)

I have a couple games I won't play until I find copies in better condition (I feel like I can't truly enjoy games when I'm not entirely satisfied with their cosmetic condition - even though they're there, it doesn't feel like they "really belong to me" LOL ), e.g. Gun-Nac (NES), Vay (manual is terrible - tried to "clean" it with alcohol but some of the color came off :/ ), The Jetsons (NES) and some other NES games.

SOO many loose titles that are cartridges. All but 4 of my CD games are complete in jewled cases, only 1 of my 50 N64 games is complete, like 5 complete SNES, and a crap load of loose cartridges everywhere else. The Genesis is the only one I've been lucky to finally start finding boxes and manuals for! I picked up about 23 of those in the past few months boxed, fewer with manuals but still better than loose. My shelves look ugly with all the misshaped cartridges everywhere, but at least it saves space!

The worst part of my collection is probably my MIB TI-99 and Timex Sinclair garbage I could care less about. I'm also not a fan of loose Genesis carts. 300+ loose 2600/7800 carts is ok, but the 10 or so loose Genesis games I have drives me apeshit.

I hate loose games, thank God I was picky when I started collecting and most of my games are boxed. NES, N64, and SNES are my only, mostly, unboxed collections. CURSE YOU NINTENDO!!!

I hate having a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cart that rattles and is semi broken. When you get far in the story, it freezes up. It bothers me to the max. I bought it boxed from Goodwill for 1.99, so I am not going to return it to Goodwill, because the money benifits other people.

I also hate having all of my games crammed in a cardboard box because of the house being remodeled.
