We've all got habits/hobbies that take something away from our favourite hobby. What bad habits/other hobbies do you have that intrude upon your collecting?
For me, at the moment, its smoking. Still. The amount of money I spend every week on cigarettes is frightening. I don't spend as much as most, either. I could afford so many more games each month if I stopped.
But I've already slashed my food/drink bills with my diet. One thing at time!

Mine is definitely my car.
I spend idiotic amounts of money on parts, tires, track time, 104 octane gas, crazy maintenance routines, etc...
I think I probably blow 2-3 times the net value of my game collection per year on cars.
Since I got out of college in '03, I've owned seven. It's a nasty hobby, stay away from it.

Ahh..I thought this thread was "What habits of yours are bad for video gaming (in general)?"
In which case my answer would be: buying EA games. :)

Amen to that, car audio is a giant money vacum you blow all your money on it and at the end you just want better and better. It's an undying thirst for better sound quality. Mods are a money pit too... You spend money just to distract from the resale value... for what a few HP?... it's still damn addicting though. :D

I don't know if it's "bad," but my other main hobby is anime. I own oodles of DVDs, merchandise, and other assorted stuff. If I didn't buy all that, I'd have a lot more games... but hey, I like it. LOL

I'm going to say my car is the worst thing that prevents me from enjoying my collection, I've put almost 10 grand into a 91 galant vr-4. Think of the games I could get with that. I quit smoking and drinking so I can't think of any bad habits other then picking my nose.

While smoking could be considered a contender, its actualy the cheapest of my addictions. Anime would definitly be the other interest in my life. Depending on whats out, I can spend up to 400$ a month on the stuff which generaly leaves little for anything else, including living expenses.

Life.
Good answer. :) Maybe I'm kinda one-dimensional, but I don't have many other hobbies so normal life is pretty much the only thing that drains time and money away from my gaming.
However, my tri-Ace collecting, game soundtrack purchases, and other gaming-related costs do take A LOT of my money that I could be spending on buying games. But I'm very happy to be spending that money on those things, and considering I have so many games I've yet to play, it's probably best if I put my money towards buying an album or a comic or whatever that I'll use right away instead of a game that will just sit on the shelf for years until I can get to it.

I'm going to say: Eating to expensively..
Not expensive Restaurants just lots of food....different kinds of foods..
I spend a lot of money on eating a lot of Seafood...and I'm a Big Eater..
I'm not a fat guy but I have a pitiless stomach and high metabolism..
I was talking to my buddy who is my weight and he told me he splits a meal with his parents and has some left over..A meal that I eat all by myself.. @_@ x_x
Otherwise..I do spend a significant amount of money on Coca Cola Items to add to my Wife's Coca Cola Collection..
Money that could be spent on Gaming items ..but I like Collecting/finding Coca Cola Stuff too so it's a thing we both love to do.
When I go out(fleas etc) I look for two things:..Game stuff and Coca Cola items..

Model railroading. It gets expensive FAST, alway has - which is why I take a hiatus from the hobby every now and then. I began again a few months ago and it put a kink in my game collecting for awhile. This goes about 5x as much for garden railroading outdoors since any of the quality pieces either have to be scratchbuilt or imported from Germany. It's about $10 per foot of track (that includes ballasting and wiring costs) - which ads up pretty quick. And most of the large locomotives are in the thousands.
Aside from that I'd say my MAME cocktail. Yeah, it's video games, but every freaking spare cent gets put aside since I'm trying to build it cheap as possible. It's not really video games right now - it's woodworking, engineering, design, PC repair, etc. I've got all the wood cut and assembled, the audio system installed, PC setup for the most part (need to clear it out and fresh install everything before moving on), and the control panels laid out but there's still lots more work and lots more money to spend.

Buying a house...
When Discover calls you because you've racked up something crazy like $1800 worth of charges in two days, things are gettin' ugly.
I don't think I'll be buying myself any new gaming stuff for at least three or four months. Seriously.

Music. Most of the funds from selling hundreds of my video games went to my car, and to music. I found out I enjoy music even more, and can talk about music a lot more, and with more people.

Well my other hobbies are building models, mostly planes and Star Wars stuff for the ceiling in g my son's room. And building choppers in the garage, now that one gets expensive real damn quick, $1800 for a frame, $4500 for the motor and so on and so forth.
But, it's all about the love

ebay and school. people charge way too much for shipping on ebay, and if i did'nt have school i could go to soo many more fleas/thrifts and maybe actually get something good. seriously the only time i EVER found a video game in a thrift it was SMB/DH for NES and i picked it up for 1.50 just because it was my first and so far only thrift find. all the thrift stores around here have nothing but tacky old lady junk and smelly toys. fellow vermonters will know what i'm talking about. ;)

And not going to school would improve this situation somehow?
