I started a similiar thread, but this is slightly different. In this thread, I'm curious what you guys and gals consider your worst video gaming habit. Do you have a sprawling assortment of wires? A large number of consoles half-open and broken? A collection of dirty, mucky games that need cleaning? Where do you fall down in your opinion?

Answers on a postcard!

My biggest problem would be my trade list, at the moment. I don't have one - which doesn't help! I've never really liked trading. I used to do it quite often, but I find it difficult to gauge if the trade is fair.

It also doesn't help that I don't collect with a view to trade. So I don't have duplicates. And I don't really wish to let something out of my collection go.

I don't really trade either. I suppose I'm not adverse to the idea, but I'd generally rather just sell something and then buy something else than try to negotiate a trade.

I also incessently pass on things, things I really should buy. It's getting pretty bad.

I went on an import buying binge, even though I can't read a word of Japanese.

I just see these things, and I worry that I'll never see them again, so I impulse buy...

My biggest problem with collecting is keeping my list of games up to date, i do not update that much cause the only time i need it is when i trade with other people.

Then they wanna know what games i have and what i still need, i am too lazy to update it constantly so my remedy is just to ask people for games i am looking for, much easier and works almost all the time for me.

I'm well on my way to correcting my bad gaming habits. (what a relief!! LOL )

My biggest problem in the past was buying too many games "for later". I'd pay release-day prices....but by the time I got around to starting many of them, they'd be available at way cheaper prices. I found that it was far too easy to do this while owning a PS2, so I dumped the system entirely and picked up an Xbox. The logic being that the Xbox has a smaller selection of games that actually appeal to me, so I buy less and actually complete the games that I DO buy. I bought several big titles in April....and finished them all. No wasted money.

Collecting? I reduced my "collecting" systems down to only the N64. I still have a Genny and a NES, but only own key games for them. My Cube has had nothing in well over a year.....it's waiting for the new Zelda.

Your Cube has had nothing in over a year? Shocking! You seriously need Resident Evil 4. Even if you don't like the gameplay, it's a real eye-opener for untapped potential in the 'lil Cube! No Cube collection is complete without it - mark my words!

My worst trait- wanting everything Mario related that I see.
Actually wanting everything videogame related.....
and trying to get it.

I'll buy every decent priced nes toaster i come across, hell i got 28 now and never paid over $10 for any one of them (alone, though a few came with a chunk of games for > $10)

I do have somewhat of a wire problem, but i can guarantee it's not half as bad as some of our members :P.

i guess one thing i AM good for, is not leaving dirty games lying around (sans 2600 games). All my NES, SNES, N64, GB, GG, etc. carts get cleaned til they shine/no more crud comes off the pins. i cant stand dirty games! :/

My worst gaming/collecting habit is picking up games that I assume to have low print runs and are from smaller publishers. More often than not the game is crap and the trade-in value sucks, so I'm stuck with it until the next big game-store trade-in promo.

The worse is that I have alot of loose NES carts and no list hehe. I do have some kinda system tho, so I can find the game I'm looking for, but I wish I had a much better setup.
Been too lazy to do it :( hehe

I'm so picky about alphabetizing that at times am very tempted to burn the NES Bases loaded for having Jaleco on the top label instead of the game title. I mean it really pisses me off. Maybe I should just find the box for it... but wait... the Jaleco NES boxes have backwards title on the side.

1) If I ever have a chance to buy another Virtual Boy, I buy it

2) I buy alot of my games in massive lots from local (and DP/cgcc) collectors. Therefore, it gives me very little money to go hunt in the wild.

3) I still buy loose N64 games, when I know that I'm trying to get them all complete.

My worst habit is probably selling what I have (after I get bored with it) and then buying it up again. I think I've licked that as I haven't sold anything from my collections in quite a while.

My second worst habit is saying I'm not collecting (swearing up and down that this is it) and then getting suckered into buying something due to the "thrill of the hunt".

Third worst habit is buying games and not getting around to playing them. I've got a small stack of PC games I've picked up/received that I haven't gotten around to playing (Half Life with the extras, SimCity 3000, Legend of Kyrandia collection come to mind) and I've got a bunch of PC games I started but haven't finished (Freedom Force, Tron 2.0, Diablo II, Morrowind).

*cough..Dogs Life..Cough* I have that same issue sometimes but my biggest problem is that I will rebuy games I find if they have the box. Why cant I just hold out to find a boxed one to begin with. what is my problem. @_@

I have carts that I bought months ago that still need to be cleaned. They fill up about half a drawer.

I haven't played my Genesis or N64 in months (mainly because I don't have the room to hook them up).

I have too many games I haven't gotten around to playing. I want to trade some of these in but it bugs me too much to get rid of something I haven't even tried - what if I got rid of something I might actually have liked? That being said, I've severely limited future purchases to stuff I know I'll play not too long after I get it (for carts, change that to "stuff I know I'll play once I clean it and/or whenever I hook the console up").

Mine is definitely the fact that I always want to start another collection. I'll start one, get bored of it, and start another. Then I'll sell everything for a fraction of what I bought it with, and I'll decide to collect something else.

However, I do have a small NGPC collection that I'm hoping to complete. My latest collecting phase has been the Wonderswan. It's a cool little system, and I'm having an urge to buy a lot of stuff for it.

My biggest problem is that I'm pretty chaotic as to what I buy and when I do it. While my goal to complete my NES collection (read: get all of the games I want) before the end of the year is within reach, I've been downrightodd in how I do it. I still have black box games to buy, and no, complete copies of Stack-Up and Gyromite aren't among the needed or wanted. Logically, my needed games should be more along the lines of Fire & Ice-namely, stuff that's a little rare. Then, throw in my side quests (the Final Fantasy games and other PS1/2 games I've bought this year), and you have a headache-inducing buying pattern.

Ugh, not clearing out the trade pile.

I didn't even think about having one when I started really getting into collecting, and once I realized I didn't need 3 Genny 1's... things started getting crazy @_@

Boxes of cords, systems, backings and manuals....

I'm working on a list now with prices, hopefully I can get rid of some more stuff.

Once it's all gone, the second I get something I don't need (Which is another problem in itself) i'll list it.

Same. It's not the worst trait in the world, though. It's what sets us apart from the rest of the pack ;)

For me it's:

Stacks of unopened/unplayed games.
I'll hit Best Buy or TRU for their clearance games (Cheap Bastard Syndrome), get them home and stick them on the "to be played" stack......and totally forget about them.

I rarely finish a game.
I'll start up a new game of something and play it hardcore for a while......then something else catches my eye and I stop playing. There are a handful of games I actually beat.

Game/system cleanliness.
I'm a fanatic when it comes to keeping my systems clean (ie dust/grime/greasy fingerprints etc.). Same goes with games.

Buying multiple copies of games.
Especially when buying lots on Ebay. I might be after one specific game in the lot, but it happens to have a few other games that I already have 1 or 2 copies of. Meh. Never know when those will come in handy. :wink 2:

Not enough room for my game systems.
This one sucks. I only have so much room for my game systems to occupy. Right now, I have my PS2, Saturn, Dreamcast, SNES, and Genesis 3 on a stand along with my TV (duh) and a system selector box. I have my X'Eye on top of a comic book short box off to the side.

I think these are all common traits with game collectors, however. @_@

and 2 posts. LOL

i never finish games, i never throw anything away, and i'm extremely picky about where i put stuff once i'm done using it. i always put my memory cards, extra controllers, etc back in my drawer once i finish playing a system. and if i forget to put something away, it bugs me forthe whole day until i finally put it away. like right now, my DC keyboard which should be put in my accesories drawer, is sitting on my shelf along with my Dc controller which should be wound up, with both my VMUs one of which should have the cap put back on, and both should be put back in the drawer. next to my Dc is my gamecube with my 251 memory card still in it which also belongs in the drawer. also no matter how hard i try, the cords to all 10 of my systems always are all over the place, even after being rearranged about 5 times.

Buying everything I see, even if I have it already! More specifically consoles, such as Genesis and NES systems. I already have them, but if they are cheap enough or even come with just one game that I do not have, I'll pick it up. I now have 4 NES systems, and 6 Sega Genesis'..I am running out of room to put my extra systems.

Another bad habit is my not clearing out the extra stuff i have. For instance, I was going to somehow trade or sell my extra stuff that I have no way to play(Colecovision games, Super Famicom stuff, PlayStation Games, etc. that I have no console for). However, I end up keeping the games around and then buying the system eventually, winding up with only a few games and the system. This is how I got my Intellivision, because I decided that my extra trade games should have a system to be played in.

Yet another bad habit would be my lack of keeping an updated list of my games on the computer...I have a list, an up-to-date one, in a notebook, but I have not fixed my computer list in quite some time.

Also,(wow I have a lot of bad habits)..I do not keep my spare controllers, power cords, adaptors and miscellaneous other corded items in any order whatsoever. I have tons of Sega and nintendo and other controllers all over the place, in boxes, drawers, shelves, in no specific order. Almost drives me crazy.

I'm sure I have more bad habits, but I think I've said enough

My worst collecting trait is getting ever more while I don't even get to try stuff I have. Whether it's new stuff I got for Christmas that I haven't even opened or a new addition to my classic collection, I simply don't seem to have the time anymore to get to it. Still, it makes me happy, so I guess I keep doing it. I do plan on getting to it all someday...

One of my worst traits is that I set out to collect for one set of systems, and I go with it for a while and then quit pretty early on. It's happened too many times before. :embarrassed:

Never buying greatest hits games. I really wanted sonic dx on gamecube, and harvest moon, but I realy do hate how greatest hits games stand out from the others, so I NEVER buy them, no matter how much I wanted a game. I dont think I will ever get over it.

I am less of a collector than I used to be, but I still can't get games without their boxes or manuals. It bothers me when something in my collection is missing something. In fact, if a game is missing a poster, I have to buy the game (probably complete) all over again just to get the poster. Then I have two copies of the game. I also have this thing where my unwanted video games are laying around the entire house, so you could find them in the most random places. Call it a gaming scavenger hunt, if you will.
