Sorry to post topics from other forums, but I thought people here would be interested. The Nintendo Store in NYC (formerly the Pokemon Center) has a very large display of old Nintendo stuff, including tons of limited-edition GBAs, the "burned to a crisp but still runs" Game Boy shown in Nintendo Power, and the complete line of Nintendo AVS stuff, including a keyboard, 2600-style joystick, and a wacky light gun.

The store has a big opening event tomorrow, but it's open right now. Check it out if you're nearby.

AVS, Ed.

Nice pics! The AVS looks so cool... Sad that Nintendo had to go with the VCR look. If only the retailers woul have noticed the beauty of it. Anyway, the control pads look painful, so it's good Nintendo revised that.

Coming soon to tristate news on Saturday night:

"Professional Idiot, Dave 'portnoyd' Warmington was arrested on Saturday afternoon for attempting to steal display items from the Nintendo World Store. After using a brick to smash the glass, he proceeded to grab the equipment and dash out the store screaming 'OMGRARE' and 'MINEMINEMINEMINE' until he was beaten to a pulp by several large security guards."

No, seriously! The NES Making Machine had some trouble running after all these years, but then they put in the Lara Croft nude code and pretty soon the Nintendo making technicians were up to their necks in toploaders and copies of bubble bath babes!

That's the first thing I was thinking: what's the security like around all that proto hardware? Maybe I should enroll myself in a catburglery 101 course and take a vacation to NY...

And as for the AVS, very cool. Besides that the Gulf War gameboy is probally the most valuable display, oddly enough.

If you guys had read the thread, you'd know that Nintendo doesn't have an AVS on display-that's the original concept for the Famicom Disk System in the US, which obviously would have stolen a page from Starpath's infamous Supercharger.

that burnt Gameboy was on display at Nintendo of America in Redmond, WA ... I stopped by the NOA headquarters in Redmond, WA few years ago the farthest I could get in there was the Lobby :( and that display space along with some merchandise you can purchase such as shirts etc ... also saw pokemon PT crusiers outside in their parking Lot... it was really a nice place and very funny that they are so close to Microsoft !!! LOL just on the opposite side from them (bridge over the freeway)...

I was on my way TO the Nintendo Store TODAY! But I got sidetracked when I bought a bonsai tree and I didnt want to lug to midtown with the bonsai in tote.

I'm totally hitting this place up tomorrow if it's open!

The AVS images blew me away! I thought I had seen it all (as far as N history is concerned.)

There are so many mispelled words in this thread and 99% of them are in PC-Famicom's posts. LEARN TO SPELL, DUDE! School! Go to School! Pay attention! You are 15 and it's like you never went to grade school! @_@

So, does anyone know if they only have every color of GBA SP on display? Or do they have all the other system color variations? Now THAT would be a sight to see. And the main reason I'd go to one. Just for a museum of everything Nintendo. I may play all systems, but I'm a Nintendo guy at heart.

The place was definitly over-crowded but it was a nice little side trip to see where Nintendo came from.

One my friends was joking about going in there and wanting to buy a PSP to see what'd happen. LOL

The store was near total waste of fucking time. The display cases were nice, but the rest was Cubes, DS, and GBAs set up for play. Zzzzzz.

We did get a free shirt, 4 bottles of Nintendo World store water, 2 nice bags, and with $5, every gift card. We also picked up a Hori GBA Player controller each as well.

Well, I just got back from the grand opening of Nintendo World. It was great fun, but we got there a bit late (it was close to 4), so by the time we got out of the store everything was being cleaned up outside. It was pretty crazy outside, tons of people and no order to the madness. Unless there was somebody there earlier that I don't know of, I think Nintendo's idea of a "celebrity" was a guy dressed up as Mario. :P I wish I could've got my picture taken with him, but he was gone when I got back outside and I think they were charging for it anyway. The Pikachu car was there, along with various "Who are you?" vans and such. There were lots of competitions going on out there, and there was a huge line of people waiting to get stuff downloaded into their Pokemon Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green and Pokemon Dash games.

So yeah, we avoided this insanity and got in the half-avenue long line to get into the store. It was a good thing we did too because I think they cut off the line for the day shortly after we got on it. We were waiting for at least a good 30 minutes, but it wasn't so bad because we had a steady stream of free goodies being handed out and we were laughing for a good while after we saw a fat, middle-aged man dressed up like James from Team Rocket (which I should point out was the ONLY fan we saw in cosplay).

So we finally got in and saw a lot of GBA and SP stuff downstairs. Tons of display units to try and a wall of for big-screen playing. There was a pretty cool little circle-shaped lounge, and there were kids playing the Pokemon card game and such. The coolest thing about the first floor was the Legend of Zelda SP signed by Miyamoto. Since none of us are Pokemaniacs, we quickly went upstairs. First thing I went to was the display case where I saw the AVS NES, the Gulf War Game Boy playing Tetris, the "history of Game Boy" display, the NES and Famicom, the Hanafuda cards, and all the other nifty stuff. Then I wandered around looking at the merchandise and games, and there were a ton of GameCube display units with people playing Smash Bros. Finally, we went over to the "vibrating chairs", and I played some Mario Kart: Double Dash. I'm amazed that they have so many full versions of GameCube games (along with some videos of a few games) all on ONE GameCube disc. o_O The screens they had were beautiful too, and the egg-shaped chairs were spiffy. I didn't do so great playing, but it didn't help that some little Asian toddler was walking back and forth in front of my screen, tripping on my controller's cord. :/ His mom just couldn't keep him in line; he was doing the same thing when my boyfriend was playing F-Zero GX, which caused he to say to the kid "You fucking idiot!", haha. Despite the kid screwing him up at first, my boyfriend was doing quite well, and he got a little crowd around him and when he was done this dorky kid told him "WOW! You're amazing!" :P

So that was about it. We were thinking of buying some stuff (my boyfriend wanted to get me the "I am Samus" shirt), but since we're broke, we ultimately decided not to. His brother got a skull cap and a DS case, though.

The most interesting thing about the event was that there were these Japanese men in suits standing around. I guess they sent some Nintendo bigwigs to size up how the event went.

Here's a photo of the freebies we got, sans one of our Mario pins:

http://www.inverteddungeon.com/triacesuperfan/nintendoworldfreebies.jpg

I also saw a lot of people with little Pikachu balloon thingies on a stick, but I never got one. :( I never found anyone giving out the Donkey Kong pin either. Where the heck were they? I guess I failed at Nintendo's "Gotta get 'em all!" thing. :( But if anyone has a spare Donkey Kong and needs a Pikachu or Mario, I'll trade with ya. :P

My boyfriend's bro took some photos at the event, so if I can get ahold of them (and if they're worth posting), I'll try to get them up.

Hahaha...I saw that fat, middle-aged guy dressed like the Team Rocket guy, too. I was like...man, someone is way too serious about Pokemon.

I waited in the Mystic Ticket line, though, because those things just don't come around every day. Very interesting, but...somehow I was expecting...more?

Well, by "IM-speak" I also include misspellings that they know about but don't care to fix - it would seem more appropriate to not care in an IM, as opposed to a forum post where it's stored for everyone to read. I know a guy who writes like this on forums, although he's not stupid in the least.
