We already knew it would be packing some backward compatibility and WiFi functionality, but a couple of new bits of information have now come out about the Nintendo Revolution. The unit is apparently going to be quite small, about the “thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer” — not sure if that means regular jewel cases as with CDs, or the bigger plastic cases DVDs often get cased in. The unit will be playable either horizontally or vertically, making for a more flexible gaming setup. As noted with the backward compatibility, 3-inch GameCube disks will play in the same self-loading media drive as the Revolution’s double-layered DVD discs. Hardware partners IBM and ATI are packing a lot of graphics power into a small space, giving the device quick game startup times and quiet, low-power operations. And, of course, we’re still looking forward to all of this compactness to be showing up in 2006.
Tiny footprint and backwards compatibility. Sounds good.
Almost E3, can't wait! :-P

I'm curiouse too how it will look.
and Nintendo seems to be a bit pissed off of the comments("Ninty is just niche" etc) of their competitioners cause they posted this on their european site:
Wir von Nintendo geben klar und deutlich zu verstehen, dass man uns im Rennen der Next-Generation-Heimkonsolen nicht unterschätzen sollte.
which means something like this:
We from Nintendo want to make clear that you should not underestimate us in the race for the next-generation consoles
boahh...I don't know why but somehow this statement gave me the creeps.
I have a feeling that the tiger wakes up again.
however......with fans who make fan-movies like THIS (http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/613/613578/vids_1.html) you don't have to be afraid. O_O @_@
This is a so-called "hardcore-fan" I think.....wow...just wow

They've got to talk big if they want to win big.
backwards compatability, and the small size sound really good to me. I like compact things! Here's hoping they tell more at E3!

Sounds like technically it's going to be right up there with the PS3 and X360. Let's just hope the games don't take us too far down the DS path.

Small is good. Fit more consoles in limited space.
Sorry guys......but if they couldn't get their shit together with the GameCube, which is a magnificent little piece of hardware....what makes you think that they'll "smell the coffee" with the Revolution? How many times are you going to allow them to let you down?
You're gonna end up with yet ANOTHER new Nintendo console on your shelves that has no 3rd party support after the initial year. I don't believe in Nintendo any more. Too much lip service, no action.

I have almost 40 games for my gamecube, and more than half of those are 3rd party...

In all honesty, who ACTUALLY buys a Nintendo console now to play just third party games? :P

I think a lot depends on whether the supposed 3D functionality of the Revolution turns out to be worthwhile or not. (Hell, the idea of it displaying stuff in "3D" is just a rumor still anyway... but you've got to admit, Nintendo is obsessed with gimmicks these days.)
Nintendo probably won't have too hard of a time wooing 3rd parties back if the hardware is good. If not, then we'll end up with another one-game-a-month wonder.
Backwards compatibility is always a plus too.

I have to agree, the prospect of the GameCube was the rebirth of a lot of franchises that got shoved into a lull on the N64. The Rogue Squadron sequels and the Super Monkey Ball games were just nice additions. :) I don't play my GameCube all that often but it's the system of choice for Soul Calibur II and to this day that's what I use it most for.

I'm interested and I'll probably always stick with Nintendo. And If the Revolution gets the exact same support as the Cube, I'll buy one.

The description sounds like a similar form factor as the PSTwo. Which is not a bad idea. I'm always for nice, compact systems... :D

Here's to hoping for a commercial success!!

Excuse my eubonics but that video was off the hook. Has that video been around awhile? I guess I don't frequent these boards as often as I thought. Damn, Nintendo should hire that guy, if he could make their lame ass system look half as good as the one he has thought up they'd probably end up outselling the original nes.

And that was a word from Mr. Negative McWhineypants. :P
I'd say give Nintendo a change, you never know what they could come up with. But my instinct tells me that the next console war is going to be mainly between Sony and Microsoft. Seems like whatever console has the best RPG's usually wins the war in the end. On the other hand Nintendo will get a lot of sales from it's own in-house games anyway, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I'm all for a compact design and backwards compatibility! :D

Thats pretty damn cool. I thought it was gonna be a helmet. I on't like the idea of it reading your body movement but the rest of it is cool as hell. That guy has quite an imagination and it takes a serious amount of motivation to put that kind of time into anything! LOL

You're one of the few then. Wouldnt it be wondeful if Nintendo stopped making crappy systems and released games for the other systems that are actually worth something other than a cheap starter system for the toddlers?
I think Nintendo will have to do something HUGE with this sytem that the others dont do to win back fans that hated the gamecube. VR would probably be one of the few things that could do that.
Have to wait and see but I highly doubt it will compete in the console war.

There was nothing wrong with the gamecube, its a great little system. The only problem is that Nintendo doesn't have gigantic monopolies and electronic goliaths backing it up (X-box and Playstation, respectively).

I strongly disagree. It would break my heart to see Nintendo go the way of Sega. Nintendo produce outstanding hardware. I don't know anyone who "hated" the GameCube, as you put it. How can you hate it?

Aside from the handheld market I wouldn't call Nintendos systems "crappy". The GC is a very respectable system. You may not be able to see past Pokemon but that doesn't mean the system is crap.
I hope Nintendo doesn't turn into another PS2, I like that Mario doesn't kill hookers. If Nintendo is still around when I have children, it'll be the only system my kids are allowed to have. Very little (relativly speaking) parental supervision is required when your kids are playing a GC. It's a trusted, family oriented company...that's rare these days.

I agree totally until they make SOME third party exclusive titles ex. GTA, DOOM 3 they will continue to have limited firepower in the console race.

I'd take Resident Evil over GTA or Doom 3 everytime! And a Nintendo game is worth triple that of many bog-standard Xbox or PS2 games.

I swear, it's amazing they would misunderstand "DVD case sized" and mistake it for CD jewel cases. DVD cases .. is that the case they put DVD's in?
As for third party games.. well.. looking at my shelf..more than half my games are first party. The rest are mainly exclusives. In fact, the only third party Cube games I have that aren't exclusive, Pac-Man World 2 (For Vs.), Soul Calibur II (For Link), Ikaruga (Well, doesn't count now.), Crash: Wrath of Cortex, BloodRayne, Simpsons Road Rage, Sonic Mega (Used to be exclusive), Turok: Ev and Viewtiful Joe. (Also used to be exclusive) I don't buy a Cube to play everyone elses games. I buy it mainly for the first party gold. Nintendo's first party stuff will ALWAYS and FOREVER outshine ANYTHING the other two put out. Sony's got Naughty Dog and 989, Microsoft's got Rare and Bungie. Ooh, wow. So what. Conker and Halo and Jak and some sports game can't compare to Nintendo's established first party lineup.
Dammit. I just helped perpetuate this thread into what I hoped we could keep it out of. A goddamn console war again! Ugh! "Nintendo!" "FANBOY!" *sigh* :(

good point. i only have 2 games, but both those are first party, and i only plan on buying first party games for it from now on, with the excepyion of super monkey ball and maybe resident evil. same with SNES. i got rid of most of my third-party games for SNEs for just that reason. they suck. nitendo just makes good games and i don't give a crap about third party games.

As was already said many times.
FUCK third party games. Nintendo's best feature is the first party games. I wouldn't give a shit if EA decided to leave the console and only do Sony and MS stuff. It wouldn't matter none to me. As long as Nintendo keeps churning out the GOOD games.

I also must disagree with the fact that you think nintendo makes crappy systems. Just becuase nintendo doesnt want 5 games being released a month that includes piles of gangster garabage and mindless gang oriented killings does not mean they are crap systems.
Sure nintendo systems have their fair share of kid games, but the system itself is not meant for kids the least bit. Without games like pokemon, how do you expect kids to get started playing games? I highly doubt they should be killing hookers or splattering aliens with a 300 pound bazooka.

Resident Evil has been on almost every console (excluding X-Box). Don't get me wrong I enjoy the RE games. but unless you see some killer app that makes someone want to by the system (not made by nintendo) then they will continue to be behind MS and Sony. I am not trying to start a flame war. Just stating the facts. I enjoy the nintendo brand games, however, unless they start to make something INOVATIVE yes I said it, then they will continue to have accessories for the GBA, DS. THEY NEED ONLINE PLAY!!!!.
By the Way I do OWN and play every nintendo system they have and do enjoy it.
