QUESTIONS regarding EURO and JPN PS1, pls direct to me.

I'm trying to get more involved in the forums. I'm currently working on a project with kevincure. If anyone has any questions about ANY Japanese or non-US-released European games, please feel free to ask me. I have most European games that were not released in the US. The only ones I didn't collect were the many sports titles (there are just too many soccer sims and I don't care for sports games. I do have some though).

If it's Japanese and it's not an anime dating game, unplayable rpg or mahjong game, I probably have it. I have over 1,207 Japanese games and over 364 European games.

If you live in the US and imported a PAL game but can't play it in color, I may be able to get you a gameshark code to help you out. I was privy to program that will create gameshark codes that will convert PAL to NTSC *and* center the screen. (This program was for internal use only and asking me for it is futile. Don't even ask who/what organisation gave it to me.)

There's a survivor horror type game called Dark Messiah that supposedly takes place in the Tokyo subways ... how is this game? Is it as cool as it sounds? Worth getting?

How is the game Cyberorg? If I remember correctly, it was an action game made by Squaresoft. Is it worth tracking down? I have the soundtrack and it's full of awesome rock songs ... how's the game itself though?

Dark Messiah is an ok game. I never really got into it. I really haven't played it much. There is Japanese text in the game. Quite a bit for my liking. But it's still playable. If you want 100% English you can pick up Hell Night. It's Dark Messiah translated to English and released in Europe.

Cyberorg is a cool action game. I think it was pretty playable. This one is definitely worth an import. But it shouldn't cost too much. No more than $15 imo. I couldn't figure out why this game never made it to the US.

Do you have "Travelers" for the PC-Engine? It's a really rare, fairly expensive RPG. I've seen it used a few times and it piques my interest, but I can't find any real information about it anywhere.

Next, how about Remy Blaster for the PC-Engine (again)? It's a rare, really expensive beat-em-up (or so I hear). Again, I've seen it for sale but I haven't been able to find enough information to tell me if it's worth $130.

there's a ton. Pastel Muses is sort of like Puzzle Bobble (or Bust A Move in the US) but you're on a hill. What type of puzzle do you like? There's Afro Dog Puzzle you might like. One of my favorites is made by Konami and I totally forgot the name. I liked it because there's an S&M chick who almost strips nude when she wins with a lot of combinations (it's a puyo puyo / tetris type game). It even had a bowling mini game which was totally fun. If you are curious I could pull out my list.

I forgot about RTL and Autobahn. Shame on me. I was thinking of Moohuhn 2 and Moohuhn Kart. (Moorhuhn 3 was released in the UK as Moorhen 3)

If it was released in Japan and Italy I probably don't know. I would always default to either the one that plays in NTSC or if it was PAL and played in English. Since I can't read Japanese nor Italian, I would end up getting the NTSC version. Out of curiosity, which game is it?

I actually have another question ... I was reading a '96 issue of Diehard Gamefan magazine today and they had a write-up with tons of pictures of this RPG called Popolocrois. It looked like an interesting game with very detailed hand drawn graphics. I tried finding some reviews on Gamefaqs.com (probably not the best place for reviews, but they do have some on rare games from time-to-time) and didn't see any. Have you tried this game out at all?

Popolocrois! That was one of the few JApanese RPGs that I like and actually played even though I can't read Japanese (The others include Suikoden and Arc The Lad which were released in US). It is quite playable and I loved the graphics. There was a sequel on PS1 (forgetting the name at the moment) and the third installment was released on the PS2 I think. I didn't like the sequel as much, but I really didn't spend time on it.

Importing will open up a WHOLE NEW WORLD. Many games that were slated for a US released and never made it actually were released in Japan or Europe (Aeon Flux is an example). And just because a game was released in Japan doesn't mean it's not playable...some Japanese games include English or are just plain easy to figure out, and a handful are in 100% English!

I don't mind giving opinions. I rarely put down a game, I'll try to describe it best I can.

There is a lot more Japanese releases that I do not have. But most of them I don't want becuase they are too heavy in Japanese such as Anime dating games, heavy Japanese RPG or strategy games, or Mahjong and pachinko games.

Yes, the PSX version is more of a fighter/beat em up. I'd have to actually pull it to remember it fully. I have most of the covers on a CD so I just looked at the back cover and it's still not ringing a bell. For some reason I have the 3DO verison in my head. I can't remember how the Saturn version is. I might have 360+ Saturn games and I don't have a list anymore. :(

I actually started the website because I'd get questions "how is this game"...etc. and I couldn't remember. I started taking screenshots and keeping covers to help me remember. Now I think I'd rather have a book or downloadable PDF pages that I could print and file. Plus I need a free web server and someone to help me code a website correctly. The website I had was too manual to update for each game. I wanted something like Retrobase website.

BTW, one of the, if not THE, best PSX games ever made was Gunners Heaven. If you liked Gunstar Heroes on Genesis, then you will love this game. It still goes for about $30 on eBay, even for The Best verison (which is equivalent to Greatest Hits Version). It plays and looks like Gunstar Heroes. The 2D graphics are Saturn-like!! The only downside is lack of a 2 player option. But I can get over that quickly.

To this day I still curse Sony for not allowing this to be released in the US. It was one of the first games I purchased for the Japanese Playstation in EARLY 1995. (February?) Sony USA didn't want any 2D games released...they only wanted 3D games to show off the hardware. Hell, even Europe had this release (called something else, name escapes me).

Of course I have and played it. Prepare to pay $200 or more for it. Yes, one of the rarest games. It's like R-type (horizontal shooter). First off, I never talk bad about a game...well, very rarely. To me a shooter can never be bad. I love shooters. Gaia Seed is a nice game. Worth $200? No way.

I'll get back to you on X2 in a day or two (I have something written up on it). In the meantime, I was given a program that will convert PAL games into NTSC plus attempt to center the screen. This program is not available in the public domain. I can't say what organization wrote it, but it also gives me Gameshark codes. So what this means is that I can give you a gameshark code so you can play a PAL game in NTSC.

Your other option is to download a program like PAL4U which will patch a PAL game to NTSC. Or get a boot disc that will force NTSC.

I was thinking this morning, if you like PSX shooters then you should get Night Raid. It's Japanese and can be found fairly easy on eBay. It's a wonderful shooter similar to Radiant Silvergun and has awesome graphics. Another no-name shooter to look for is Meta-Phlist. I think this was released before Radiant Silvergun but plays very similar to it...and it's 2 cds!!

On the other hand, click on Playstation, and 51 games come up. It seems to me that Playstation 1 import games are a lot tougher to find. Then again, I'm probably not looking at the right sites/areas, so maybe that's why. Is it because the Saturn is known as a great import system that games seem to be easier to get? Or am I completely wrong on this?

Playstation 1 import games are actually tough to find. As far as Saturn being more available I can't comment on that. It could be that because there are more Saturn import collectors? I went to the ebay equivalent in Japan and had a field day looking at all the stuff for sale for PS1. Unfortunately no one would sell outside of the auction site and no one took paypal. (And I don't know how to speak Japanese which made it tougher) If you want Import PS1, the first place I would go is www.ncsx.com . They still carry imports and take requests.

BTW, I was guessing the average price of Gunners Heaven. It's always being sold and purchased on ebay. You will hardly find one auction end without a bid. I was going to do a top 100 import (Japanese and Euro) game list for PS1. Gunners Heaven would be #1. Another one to look for is Hermie Hopperhead. It's a 2D platformer like the Old Mario with a lot of quircks to make it interesting. It's huge too, lots of levels. Nice parallax scrolling.

I would guess those to be average prices. If you like run and gun type games, look into Gungage and Cyber Org. I found Gungage for $10 and Cyber Org for $14. Cyber Org is done by Square, so you know it's gotta be.... no, I won't even say it! x_x
I'm personaly on the look out for Finger Flashing, IS: internal section, Kyuin, Rapid Angel, and Umiharakawase Shun(Shyun).

I can't figure out why Zanac is so expensive. Umiharakawase you will end up paying a BIG price as well (did you know there are two different versions if I remember correctly). Rapid Angel is VERY kewl, definitely in my TOP 100. Kyuin (aka Vaccum Cleaner Boy) is also awesome. Why Finger Flashing though??? Night Raid for $30 is a good deal. Mortal Kombat II should also fetch a high price.

I'll have to do some digging then. Cyber Org was actually one of the games I was interested in. I have the soundtrack to that game and it's completely awesome ... the best rock music I've heard since the Falcom remixes/Dracula Perfect Battle stuff. The music alone piqued my interest in the game. Nice to know that it can be had for cheap too!

its quite a fun game to watch as the graphics are very impressive for the ol grey box but not all that much fun to play as you dont really control the robots that much. you kinda point somewhere and they walk there sloooowly and blow stuff up. not sure its worth tracking down but its quite amusing, if a little odd in the naming of the weapons. you see the designers saw it fit to include an english name by each of the guns, sadly choosing to name each gun after their own...

as in, the guns are called dong, whang, pecker, prodder, poker, banger, stick,i think the schlong was in there but that would of been a bit obvious. there was a bone in there, im sure.

sadly my chipped ps1 is in quite a sorry state and i havent done my ps2. anyone reccomend a chip to play imports on the ps2? as i have quite a few japanese games i wouldnt mind playing again, like the psx version of rival schools 2. :D

i've heard the second is a very old title, and is actiony.

btw, i have one of the two hokuto no ken ps1 titles. its not the beat 'em up (my luck..) but rather a kind of versus fighting game where you punch in combinations of buttons to trigger anime cutscenes of you preforming the move.

1.) Oh No! was a very odd racing(running) game. I remember it being pretty good, but nothing to pay a lot of $$ for. It was playable for non-Japanese-reading users. I only played it a few times so unless I pull it out and play it, that's all I can say about it.

2.) VIRUS it is aware - I posted a PDF file about it. go to www.psextreme.net and click on the image. It is based on the Dark Horse Comics and made by the same company who released the version of Aeon Flux....Cryo Interactive.

-There are two Hokuto No kens, you just reminded me. One problem with Japanese games is that people call them (translate them) to different titles. For instance I always knew Kyuuin as Vaccum Cleaner Boy or Fuun something as Super Ninja Goku. Hokuto No ken I have also seen referred to as Fist Of The North Star. That's why it is important to also know the SLPS number of the game.

So you picked up SLPS-00369, which I have listed as Fist Of The North Star. You want SLPS-02993, which I have listed as Hokuto No Ken 2, but the case has it as "Hokutonoken Seikimatsukyuseisyudensetsu". (Try saying that)

ah. virus it is aware looks like its based on the same material that was made into the movie "virus" starring jamie lee curtis. i might have to pick up a copy of that game eventually.

I'll have to think about that. Beat em ups are my second favorite genre...second only to shooters. I know Hot Blooded Family is a good one (and old one). Captain Commando is very good. Warriors of Fate 2 is good as well. (it also has another name which I keep forgetting). Then there's Pu Li Ru La (also on Saturn). Lucifer Ring is good. Panzer Bandit is awesome. Zeiram Zone.

Get any of those and you won't be disappointed if you like beat em ups.
