Hi everybody
Somebody know how much M.A.C.S. for SNES worth is?
The online rarity guide says, that there are only 500 copies of this were made?
Thanks for the information.

I have no idea what it would be worth but maybe I should see tomorrow when I go into work if it is still available through the stock system. Need to do some research and determine the company name of the original manufacturers. Would be cool to have one of those show up at the Navy Base. Since we all share basically the same stock system I should be able to find it if it is still available. May be a few dozen sitting in some military warehouse somewhere.

Thanks for the quick answer
I have bought one copy for 10 Euro
I hope this was a good price.
@AlanD maybe you can posts (if you get a clue) tomorrow how much it's worth?
Do you think the US Army sell the games which they don't need anymore?

Alan, I'd buy one of those from you too for $100 if you can locate it.

I doubt I can lay hands on one. I'm more hoping the database will tell me who made it and where they are as well as the original price.
If it is actually $2000 there is no way I can legally get the thing since I would have to get approval to spend that much cash then basically steal it and take it home. Won't happen since I can even get that much cash spent on something I can't justify :) 'Well I was really hoping to train the average maintenance guy to shoot M-16' doesn't work when it is well known I barely trust most of my guys with a ratchet. Besides I just got promoted to Senior Chief and really do not want to get nail for misappropriation.
However I'll see if anything can be tracked down and if I can find out they are in a warehouse somewhere I'll see if I can get them released to DRMO which would give a local military guy a chance to go pick them up cheap.

Well a quick search through the database did not turn it up but I'll keep checking around through paperwork and maybe I can find it listed as a discontinued part somewhere and can garner more info.

The national guard in my town had that, i played it once, pretty cool. You would need the gun to go with it to be cool though :)

Did you know if it works with the Nintendo Super-Scope 6, too?
Maybe you can ask him....

Well I have searched through every record I have access to and cannot find anything on it. Not really surprising since I'm not in their branch but I was hoping something would turn up. I'll talk to some friends that were recruiters and so they dealt with the reservists/guard quite a bit so they may have seen it and have more info. Thanks for the lead in that direction.

I've played it too, back in 2000 when I was in boot camp in the Army, they are neat but they are slow and the novelty wears off fast though, would probably be worth a small fortune on Ebay though. BTW since this has surfaced and we know it is not a proto can this get moved to the US game releases section of SNES instead of the prototypes section?

It's not a "released" game though. Released games mean "sold in stores" or "mail order, rental only releases". That is a special military private use game. Look at the label of the thing? It's obviously prototype and not production. Where's the seal of quality? That's not a released game.

On the other side of the cartridge the text says:
This product is to be used by the United States Government only. It is not to be sold, copied, or altered. Further information contact: xxx
And when I start the game, there is no producer sign shown (like for example squaresoft or something like that)

in the army we had to use these bad boys before we'd go qualify at the range. i never thought these were gold in the eyes of us collectors. there are plenty of these to go around, for i've seen many throughout my 8 years of Service.

well, i a gree it should be listed as Prototype for various reasons
1) it wasn't publically released, with Mail Order, Compeitition Carts and other stuff basically everyone had the chance to get it back then, with something released within the Army only this is not the case
2) look at the label, it says 1994.0 version, this hints at the existance of various versions, none of them could be classified as final, they all are more or less WIP
@Sammelhammel
you are from Germany, right? where exactly are you from? would you mind lending me the cart (we could probably meet up) to dump it and see if it's the same version as the ROM on the net??
@everyone
actually there's not 1 known copy, but 2!! Sammelhammel's cart is not the one that got dumped, so there must be at least one other in gamers/collectors hands that got dumped

Hello again
Yes hydrox, I come from germany.
Unfortunately, now I have my test-phase (Klausuren) in the university.
There is no much time left. After these I have a job (Praktikum)
I come from Iserlohn (near Dortmund).
I have bought me now a super scope 6 to look if this game is working (it is working, but I can't play it witout a gun).
We will see...
dortmund, i think im living a little bit closer to you than hydrox.
anyway, if you happen to come to cologne, just drop me a line and take that cart with you. ;)
i have a super scope aswell, but i dont think the game worked with a super scope type gun at all.
the code looks like its ported over from the nes in some places.
probably uses a proprietary gun system.
the dumped rom is from 1993, that means yours is a newer revision.
i dont expect it would work better than the currently available one.
the strange behaviour of the game in emulators is caused by the unemulated gun, not a bad dump imho.
i could also send a backup unit your way, but i'd expect to get it back, you know.
i dont know if thats a good idea. ;)
do you want to dump the game at all?

probably uses a proprietary gun system.
For what it's worth, when I first heard about this thing years ago, it was alleged to me that the gun it used was a "realistic" (i.e. typical weight etc) version of an M-16. I'm not sure why they'd put different internals in it than the Super Scope, but at least on the outside it was very different, supposedly. I never got to see it. :-(
I wonder though, was the Super Scope much different than the NES Zapper? I ask because, if some of the code seems NES-like, perhaps there was an earlier project than MACS which used the same guns but was FOR the NES? I've never heard of such a thing, and so this is just wild speculation, but maybe...

well, d4s, you're indeed closer, but not too much, it's 1,5h from here to Dortmund iirc
so Sammelhammel, it would be great if you could either visit me or d4s or send us that cart (we would of course send it back, i think i've got enough reputation here so you don't need to be afraid :D ) to dump it. As d4s said, it's definitely a different version than the dump that exists, and it would be great to check out the differences :)

oh yeah, as you seem to be busy with University/Job, sending the cart would probably be the better option... although that might be risky because of the Deutsche Post losing stuff ;)

To all:
How much would you pay for this cartridge??? ;)
Please send me a PM

lol
if i had too much money, i'd pay quite a big sum for it, but i can't afford something like that :(
if you decide to sell it make sure you do what we talked about first, it might be to late after selling it ;)

I'd pay somewhat for one (probably not as much as some of these other guys can afford, but it'd be triple digits, nonetheless).
A side story:
I started collecting video games back in '02 (3 years ago). I joined the Army in November '04, and we used the MACS carts (the copyright date was 1993 on the label, if I remember correctly) and a specially-modified M16A1 to play. I would play the game while I was on fireguard duty (because the drill sergeants allowed the fireguards to do so). Then came this one day, where I asked one of my drill sergeants if there was any way possible I could get a hold of one (with or without the M16A2). I explained to him that I was a collector of video games, and that this would make a fine addition to my collection. He said (in a normal person's voice), "Sorry, private, I don't think there's any way that can be done." My thoughts were, "Eh, no loss here. I asked, and I got a response, and I didn't have to do push-ups."
