I bought this game a few years ago with a bunch of others. I have tried it out a couple times for about five minutes a time and was baffled. I fired it up again this weekend and even consulted GameFAQs to get me started. Seems to me to be a bunch of random bubble shooting and pushing of blocks. Should I try investing any more time into this or is it just junk?

Hmmm...
I dont own the game, I just barely passed on it at a thrift Saturday.

But, I remember someone starting a thread awhile back about the games good qualities. I may be wrong but I thought people gave it a good rating...some people anyway.

Ahh Milon's Secret Castle! Great game! You need to work your way up the castle, by shooting bubbles, collecting the boss crystals. In every level there is a key and a door, you must find both to exit the level. But to access certain rooms you need to find / purchase items from shops in the levels (such as the latern for the well) (and spring shoes) etc. I found it to be very challenging, but also highly addictive! Be sure to hit blocks underneath to find music box bonus rounds where you can earn a lot of cash! best advice? shoot every block, push every door! Good Luck.

Like this game? Like Bomberman? Try Robowarrior for NES. May be one of my favorite games of all time.

I always loved this game, but could never really DO anything on it. Seems like I would play for hours and not have really gotten anywhere evn though I had spent all that time being productive.

Good game, though it's confusing as all hell. Gotta love the engrish dialogue though, with classic lines like "Bump head to find box" and "Loose weight to ride the elevator." LOL

to get anywhere in milon's secret castle, you have to push against and shoot pretty much every block and wall in the entire game.

I wish I was joking.

there's hidden rooms everywhere, and most of them have items that you NEED to finish the game. without a guide, you're pretty much screwed.

I wrote a Milon guide back in 1997. My writing style back then sucked (or at least more so than now), but this is possibly the only complete Milon guide (including graphical maps).

I used your guide that I snagged from gamefaqs. Very well done. I used it to help me find a couple of things because I was clueless as to what to do besides going in and out of the three doors on the bottom level.

Sounds like this game just continues to be much of the same bubbling, pushing, hitting with head at random until you find success. I don't think I'll be trying it again soon.

Its a good game that can be overwhelming at times but still its a quality platformer/action game.

This game isn't really that hard once you know what to do...A little experimentation is all that's needed. A guide is hardly necessary and would likely ruin the fun. The game really isn't that hard to figure out, and other than some semi-pesky boss battles, the game can somewhat easily be beaten on one life. Seriously, not trying to toot my horn or anything, but I think this game only took me 2 or 3 days to beat, and it can be done in an hour or two. It's hard AT FIRST and that's about it.

Once you get to stage 2 or three, things start to go smooth-sailing.

Oh, and don't forget the little Hudson Bee in the first stage to enable continuing!

This game epitomizes the Japanese wackiness and Nintendo logic of video games in the NES generation. Nothing in this game makes sense, yet if you can grasp certain principles (ie: shoot every block because pretty much everything is hidden) it becomes a really fun exploration game.

I haven't beat the game yet (far from it), but getting to the second floor of the castle without any sort of gamefaq-type walkthrough was quite a gratifying feat.

When I was about 10 years old, I was able to very far in Milon's Secret Castle without any kind of guide. It is doable, you just need to have a feel for how the Milon's world works. Do get that feel, do as everybody's been telling you. Experiment, shoot everything, and jump and bump your head on every thin platform (like punching blocks in Super Mario Bros.) to find lots of hidden stuff. Throw bubbles like mad, and you'll figure it out. Here's one tip--when you run out of things to do, try jumping off the right edge of the castle from 2 or 3 floors up.

I was able to make it to the top floor but never to the last tower before I found that guide. Not all the items are needed though, and Matt I was able to find some bees that were still unlisted in the guide, there was one in the last tower in one of the screens before the big boss.

There also is a Game Players Magazine VHS tape that covers this game somewhat in depth. I'd pick that up if you can, I remember it helping me immensely with this game when I was little!

It's the Yellow one I believe! Great tapes.
