Leon took a huge hit in his polygon counts. The environments don't seem too bad, but in that shot you have there.. well, I guess they do.

I sure do hope those are just photo problems, because if it's the true gameplay graphics, then people who buy the ps2 version have got screwed.

RE4 shud be a GC exclusive :( (im nto a Nintendo Fan Boy, nor against Sony) Nintendo deserves such an awesome game as an exclusive!

Those pics look like crap. Granted, games always look better in motion, but I still think those who claimed the PS2 version would look just like the cube version are wrong.

IGN have gamecube and ps2 pics and they seem to be in the same format so maybe its not the pics. It is still pretty early though, its not out for a while. But I don't see why they would release the pictures if they didn't think they would be impresive? Anyone got any ideas?

Nintendo of Europe has spilled the beans on the success of Resident Evil 4 in Europe. Click for the numbers!
Today the news reached our office that Resident Evil 4 has sold over 200.000 copies across Europe in the first month after its release. During the same period Nintendo also saw its GameCube sales being doubled.
The game has also been selling well in the US and in Japan. Unofficial reports are floating the internet claiming total sales numbers of the latest Resident Evil installation have passed the million mark.
As soon as we get our hands on more official numbers we will let you know. If you have not purchased the game yourself yet, check out our review to see if this game fits your horror needs.

I saw it in motion on G4. It's not just this photo; it does look like crap. Anybody who would buy it on PS2 is an idiot, they'd be paying full price for an old game, it's an INFERIOR version of that old game, AND the GameCube is so cheap that there's really no excuse to not get one if you really want to play RE4. I hope the sales of the PS2 version are terrible just to teach Capcom a lesson.

my eyes my eyes
Tch I was waoting for this to happen, while the PS2 is capable of good things it just cant keep up with the power of the GCN.
But then again weve seen some incredible looking games at late, onimusha 3 looks soo much better and that one is fully 3d and made by Capcom Maybe this is just a botched port, or a very early screen shot.

At least for me - Resident Evil 4 was really about the Story and what was going on in the RE universe this time - but since IMHO, it didnt really deliver that much new developments then we DO need to look at the graphics and gameplay.
RE4 was just plain out FUN. It was a lot of fun fighting zombies, etc. I particularly enjoy going to an area where there were a lot of Granados (or whatever the villagers and monks were called) then climb a ladder so they are all at the bottom of the ladder trying to climb up to me. I sit at the top and swing my knife each time a guy gets to the top of the ladder so they fall off on top of each other! What fun to hear them scream! LOL
The game really does look like crap, but if that doesnt take away from the fun factor, then it should still be okay. In all reality, I do think that this game should have stayed as a Cube ONLY game - but people who onbly chose one system, and didnt choose the cube will at least get a shell of a decent game - that is if Capcom doesnt mangle the gameplay as much as it looks like they have mangled the graphics.

Actually, I watched it in motion on G4 last night, and I couldn't tell a difference at all, none, whatsoever. Maybe it's because I don't have a hdtv or something, but I just couldn't see any difference.

Thats true, but part of the fun factor of the game is being swarmed by tons of enemies and having the epic battles with bullets, explosions, whatever. And to be quite honest, I find it hard to believe the PS2 can handle all of that.
But I also wouldn't discount the effect of graphics in a game like this. This game is also all about environment...and with the graphics in those pics, it looks like it will be a whole different experience compared to the cube version.

Obviously it doesn't look like a first-gen Saturn game, but you are right in a weird way... this still shot DOES look a bit like a Saturn game. 3-D Saturn games often have a strange look all their own, and this game reminds me of that. Of course, there NO WAY that a Saturn could even begin to do even a half-way terrible port of RE4, but this pic makes me want to pull out my Saturn for some strange reason. Time for a few rounds of Sega Rally?

Hey, thanks! You just reminded me of two things:
A) Why I haven't played a game on my PS2 in over a year
and
B) Why I still think the Dreamcast has better graphics (anti-aliasing)
:D I'll flame the PS2 'till the bitter end, I tells ya!!

I think you guys are overeggagerating. I mean, it doesn't look much different then the GC version although it might not end up being quite as sharp, it looks like it will be a very solid conversion.

B) Why I still think the Dreamcast has better graphics (anti-aliasing) = my thoughts exactly.
I have always beleived the Dreamcast to be a much better system than the PS2 in just about every way (oh it doesnt play movies :/ who cares?).
A good comparison thats relavent to this topic is the excellent Code Veronica it looks smoother on the Dreamcast and I think plays better also.

I think Shenmue II looks better on Dreamcast than it does on Xbox... both with S-Video.
But this pic make me tend to agree with the PS2 RE4 Saturn comparision. It has the same primitive looking texture rendering.

-stabs himself- damnit. the only reason i wanted a ps2 version was because when i get a ps3 it would be easier to play instead of hooking up a different system. also, ports usually feature extra goodies (-still needs to get silent hill 2 for the xbox since he couldn't find the GH version to buy and play through right before SH3's release-) by the way, what is that fuzzy effect you see in FMV scenes earlier on in games (age-wise), its annoying, but i don't know the technical term. basically every ps1 game with fmvs had the weird shaky/fuzzy factor during them.

Pragmatic have you ever watched a VCD? The fuzzy factor you are talking about is the compression on the CD format.

I'm against putting it on the PS2 because the graphics are a crime against humanity. Looks about two steps up from Tenchu 2 ;)

I think many DC games still compare quite well to their PS2 counterparts. Take a look at Headhunter or Shenmue II if you want proof that the DC could come close, possibly meet, and occasionally surpass anything the PS2 could crank out graphics-wise.

obviously there was bad games on the dreamcast it had ps1 ports on it. However you can't ignor the games like soul caliber, house of the dead 2, Dead or Alive, even the really nice mRC. The dreamcast was more than capable back then. Imagin what developers would be able to do with it now.

Yeah, my statement was opinionated (as was yours, obviously). I'm not really here to start another DC vs. PS2 debate, I'm sure we've all seen enough of those. As for backing up my statement, it seems a few members here have already done that for me. ;)
"90 million > 1" What's that? A sales statistic? Please don't throw those around.. especially for Sony products, they just don't apply. Everyone knows that they're always skewed by the number of replacement units.
Regardless, most of the time what bothers me about PS2 graphics are the "jaggies" because of the lack of AA support. I still can't believe Sony never thought of supporting anti-aliasing.. :hmm:

I actually thought Capcom could pull this port off even though ive always known that the GC is a much more powerful system than any casual gamers or the media ever gave it credit for :wink 2: and after looking at more pix and a short movie at a few sites this is what my response to the PS2 version of RE4 is: :puke:
also I like a lot of the PSone ports on the DC like Dino Crisis and RE3 they look a hell of lot better than the original ones and are much easier easier on the eyes but hey that may just be me.
I dont care if Sony sold 90million units of its PS2 I will never be convinced that the PS2 was or is a better system than the euthianized Dreamcast hell I dont understand how so many "casual" gamers still think the PS2 has the best graphics of the current 3 systems especailly after games like RE4 on GC and Splinter cell:chaos theory on Xbox.
I mean the brilliant programers at ubisoft must have been pulling their hair out tyring to squeeze chaos theory into the limited memory of the jaggie challenged PS2
yeah I know same old song :sob: but I was never able to really like the PS2 for sooo many reasons that I gave up on it especially after my 3rd ONE YEAR OLD PS2 fried and died screw Sony and their crappy half-a$$ed hardware :bareass:
