I've always loved the quest modes in world court tennis and final lap twin. Short and sweet, but it's like dragon warrior with a tennis racket or a race car, instead of a sword. Neutopia 1 and 2 are worth mentioning if you are a zelda fan

Gotzendiener
It's short but still a interesting game to play.
Plus side not much jpn text in it so, you don't have to worry 'about where your going.
Just hit 'select to use magic' for getting a barrier down.
I also recomend Y's IV too.
Note: There is a english patch for it if you.... don't care for useing a walk through.

Double Dungeons is fun HuCard that's a first-person-perspective dungeon hack. It has a stage select like Mega Man, so you can pick what level you want to tackle in what order. It's cool, just bring your graph paper.
Also, if you haven't tried Dungeon Explorer 1, you're really missing out.
Military Madness isn't so much an RPG as it is a real-time-strategy game, but it's a great thinking man's game, and because of it's simplicity relative to later releases in the genre, it's maybe the most fun and accessible RTS game ever made.
Exile 2: Wicked Phenomenon is one you should try, as well. I've also heard Vasteel is a hell of a game, though I haven't tried it myself.

The number of English RPGs for the TG16 is very, very limited. Two that haven't been mentioned are Dragon Slayer (very, very cool) and Order of the Griffon (not quite as good).
For your action/rpg/Zelda clone (but really good Zelda clones!) needs, Neutopia and Neutopia 2 are faaaaantastic. Dynastic Hero is an action game with some RPG elements, but be warned that the English version of it goes for $150 to $200. Cadash is another action game with some RPG elements, but it goes for a reasonable price. LOL
If you want Japanese RPGs, there are tons of them. I'll suggest some if you're interested.

damn- ya beat me to it!
gotzendiener is an amazing little game. it's short (about 6-8 hours), and the opening and ending are quite interesting twists on the usual rescue the princess rpg plot.
i'd also recommend action rpgs like magicoal, efera and jiliora, the xak games, and enhanced pc "ports" like dungeon master, which ends up growing on you after a while...

oh yeah... VASTEEL. LOL i just forgot (it's been a few years). actually, it's more strategy than rpg, but it's a great game anyway. double dungeons is sort of cool as well (as long as you stick to the single player)..
